  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 10:46 AM) I wonder when the next time we'll see someone strike out swinging on a 49 mph pitch is. When is the next WSI - ST softball game
  2. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 11:25 AM) If RSO picks Powell and he accepts, GAME.SET.MATCH, period. They might as well cancel the GOP convention, and I'm being serious. I agree, and I cannot think of a similar person for McCain.
  3. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) and how does that mean easy? By usage. Same as "bad" and "wicked sick" could mean good.
  4. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 11:15 AM) You know, at this point, it wouldn't surprise me, but then - he said "never" because IIRC his family thinks he'd be dead... (which is pathetic about our country). I hate to say it, but Obama would be a bigger target to the same people that would make an attempt on Powell. That may factor in.
  5. IIRC the Astros were in a World Series a couple years ago. One of my criteria would be no post season appearances in the past ten years. I'd be hard pressed to pick a League Champion as having the worst franchise.
  6. Another player that just missed my top 20. I'm glad he made the list. He is exactly the type of player that could be a fan favorite.
  7. Balta, I'll take a stab at articulating a feeling about this. I agree that when we are outside walking around we understand we are losing some privacy. We know that other people may see us. That happens in real time and there is a decent possibility we will see them as well. We pass on a sidewalk and may or may not make eye contact. That feels different to me then cameras hidden out of the way that are recording my every movement. As I was typing this and shifting in my chair, I needed to adjust the boys. Using that example, if I was out running and had the same need, I'd look around, see no one, and make a quick adjustment, no big deal. I'd hate to think that someone was recording that and possibly playing it back later. I'm also not convinced it keeps me any safer. If they truly did, banks and conveniences stores would never be robbed. Yet they are with tellers and clerks assaulted.
  8. Tough to win in a small market.

QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 09:48 AM) We are there for you brother. Ah the evil misquoter
  10. I was speaking about the endorsement, NOT about Powell as a VP candidate. Obviously the startegy would be much different if Powell was on the ticket.
  11. I can't quote it directly but Shipps current sig had me spitting on my keyboard . . .

QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 10:40 AM) When I read the thread title I thought it was going to be about prescriptions.Which could be a pretty interesting thread. Just visited my Doctor Monday, the current prescriptions: Atenolol, Amlodipine Besylate, Simvastatin, glass of red wine, 2,100 calories per day, sex 3-4 (or more) per week, and moderate exercise. I love my Doctor. Better living through modern pharaceuticals.
  13. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 09:45 AM) And it would be unfortunate if people tried to imply it's purely along racial lines. Powell's race would be way, way down on the list of things Obama'd benefit from if he selected him. Which is why the McCain startegy would be to dismiss all the reasons that would benefit Obama and leave the one that would not.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 09:46 AM) It would also be one of the few real life examples of Obama reaching out across the aisle. I could see a Reaganesque landslide with that ticket. Powell actually seems to transcend political boundaries like few others in America.

Forensic Psychology -- Criminal Minds here I come. Expecting 5 Stars. I've had this professor before. American Heritage II -- On-line, repeat professor, getting some core finished Stats for Psychology -- Pre-req for classes I already took, with a lab. Just want to be done. Anthropology Internship -- Hanging out at the Coastal Research Lab, doing whatever. Literary Theories -- Not certain what to expect. Req'd from second major.
  16. Homerun VP pick as well. That would get my attention. Actually that would put me back into the undecided. If it happens, here are the political strategies for both candidates (not necessarily the truth): Obama, Press release and ads that the decision is based on Obama's plan to end the Iraq war, etc. McCain, Rumors, blogs, commentators, (but never from the campaign), dismiss the endorsement as based purely along racial lines and Powell being thrown out by the Bush administration.
  17. I am blindly optimistic about this. Without names, leaving a successful bullpen guy in the bullpen and leaving a starter starting, always seems to make more sense. It only gets messy when names are attached. If we're going anywhere after the regular season ends, there has to be some lightening caught. Here's one chance. With the expansion of teams and the expansion of salaries, no team has the depth to withstand starters going down and not seeing a huge drop off. So for the top 10 or so teams that have a chance, they have to either avoid any major injuries, or have the unexpected happen. Even if every pitching prospect we drafted for the past 10 years was still in the organization, it is still a guess how they will handle the jump from AAA to MLB. Broadway
  18. I was driving earlier this morning and pressed scan on my car radio. All of a sudden I pick up someone talking on a frequency were we did not have a station. So I am thinking cool, another English language station. But ughh borrrrring. Then I lose the station for a moment only to pick it back up in a few seconds. At the next light I look over and there is a guy talking away in his car and the lips seem to match what I was hearing on the radio. I figured out right away I was picking up his cell phone conversation. Turns out there are a few blue tooth car kits with a FM transmitter relay for playing MP3s. They also transmit the calls through the FM stereo and will mute the stereo. Finish the call, and the music returns to volume. I wonder how many people know while using that feature, anyone close by can hear their calls?
  19. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 10:09 PM) A friend of mine who lives in Houston would always talk about it. I finally saw one in Tucson (I think) when I went to ST and man there is NO better fast food burger. I reiterate, for the price and for a chain. I think some of the above mentioned start to fall into casual dining and not fast food. Perhaps where we draw the line between fast food and whatever is up the chain from that. The Pelican Pub has an awesome burger on South Padre Island, But it is not fast food, and I do expect better. Some place like Fuddruckers should be better then a 'fast food place". But by incremental degrees.
  20. http://blogs.zdnet.com/BTL/?p=9662&tag=nl.e539 Basically he states that all the citizen cameras keep the government in check, especially the police.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 08:22 AM) That's just wrong... It should be last leg. Glad someone mentioned Dibble. But that felt more injury related. Sandy Alomar's inclusion on the list seems more a testiment that we haven't really had too many problems at catcher. Unless we were expecting a younger Alomar.
  22. He was on my first list before I needed to cut. I'm glad to see he made the list.
  23. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 03:20 PM) Whataburger Since moving to Texas, and trying one, I have rarely ever gone to any other burger chain.
  24. Can we pick up the pace of announcing?
  25. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 09:02 AM) No problem. I didn't read the whole thread, and I did put Baines on my list. And I was just explaining how I voted and how if others here were in their early 20's, they might not have much of a memory of Baines playing. Based on the results so far, it seems as if most people only voted for players they saw play. Unfortunately, that leaves out a bunch of really good players. In fact, the players left off the list are probably better than those who will make it if the voting keeps going like it has. As has been brought up many times, stats and ability does not always translate to fan favorite.
