  1. QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 08:22 AM) Then again, the intensity and the quantity of negative posts around here are worse than worthless. They are a detriment to enjoyment of the season, the team and this site. Only if you read them buddy, only if you read them.
  2. The stat proves we are a slow team who gets on base at a fairly decent clip. If a team won all its games by 10 runs, someone would point out that the entire staff has zero saves. All stats need context.
  3. QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 10:46 PM) It's too early for the Tiger's funeral dirge to be played. I remember having a much bigger lead a couple of Julys ago and that evaporated to almost nothing.
  4. All those things were mistakes, no doubt. Sad how close they probably were to nailing the guy.
  5. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 03:07 PM) Whoa, bring it down a little Tex. I just found it quite funny that of all the crappy countries to pick from, he picked that one. And Georgie and friends did what, sang for an hour or two? John and wife (and perhaps a nanny or two? I don't know.) raised a kid. just kidding you. It's all good.
  6. QUOTE (Balance @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 11:10 AM) I just moved to Naperville. So, great! I guess we know where it will rank next year
  7. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 08:41 AM) From Obama's Berlin speech: Um, Obama? Mccain already did that bolded part, in 1991. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1209516068...emEditorialPage Um, McCain? George Harrison and friends already did that bolded part, in 1971. http://www.theconcertforbangladesh.com/ So Bangladesh is off limits for politicians looking to help some poor kids, McCain called it first, go find some other poor children, God knows our planet has enough of them.
  8. Wow. Just to make it easier for you lazy soxtalkers . . .
  9. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 02:59 AM) Wait a minute, on your last day where? At work, or do you have a gun in your mouth? He's just happy to see you . . . I think this has something to do with Alex's "Last Day as Banker" thread. Which is also appearing today in SLAM Unless go to Cuba and witness to Cubans was the last thing to do on his life list.
  10. For some reason I have this Jan and Dean song running though my head . . . And we're goin' to Surf City, 'cause it's two to one You know we're goin' to Surf City, gonna have some fun Ya, we're goin' to Surf City, 'cause it's two to one You know we're goin' to Surf City, gonna have some fun, now Two girls for every boy
  11. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 03:57 PM) If you want to play in the bigs you don't go down to the minors to pout or be bored. You perform. Josh really hasn't performed well and I believe he was hurt for awhile also. If Joe is hurt than Fields is our only real option and if he doesn't respond like we need him to than maybe last season was a fluke? ^^^^^ All he had to do is talk to Brian Anderson and he would understand about playing hard every out, no matter where you are assigned.
  12. How soon until someone claims that Obama paid the student to take it out of the wall and send it to newspapers? Wait, I guess that is me. 10:53 PM Central I'm cynical all the time. Too good of a prayer. He is at least smart enough to know it may be published. Notice he didn't say pray for my illegitimate children or rid me of my cocain addiction.
  13. I am ashamed and embarrassed for us. There is one, and only one, song that anyone on this board would want played. It was done by a studio group, thrown together for the recording and rose to the top of the charts. It was immortalized in the late 70s by a Hall of Fame organist. Steam, Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey Hey, Goodbye /end of thread
  14. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 07:20 PM) Why would Edwards take a chance of being caught? Doesn't he have friends? Everyone knows you meet your mistress at a trusted friends house, not a hotel. Also, I'm more inclined to believe this story, as the Enquirer "broke" it months and months ago. This is the follow-up that "proves" it. Maybe not, didn't Gary Hart get caught on a friend's boat?
  15. To be fair to the police, the story only highlights all the unproductive leads they did chase down. While it may have taken 3 weeks for this or a week for that, they may have pursued 100 other leads. I started the story thinking Condit was involved, slam dunk, and got away with murder. (Hey, he's from California) I came away from the story thinking he didn't do it and the police were kind of in a bad place. If they looked elsewhere, it would seem like political pressure, even if there were other, credible suspects. Thanks SS for posting the link. Great read and I would have missed it.
  16. We can start with school funding. Pegging it to property taxes assures the haves have and the have nots, have not. In a small border community here, the Social Studies text book still showed the Soviet Union. They were teaching Social Studies with 20 year old text books. Up near where Kap lives, Highland Park Texas, the minimum requirement to be a Science teacher is a PhD. Money ain't everything in education. Hidalgo, TX is a poor community but the school works like hell to get opportunities for their kids. But money certainly evens up the playing field. And that is where preferential admittance standards at college fails. To move the pre college finish line is wrong. We have to move the starting line.
  17. So much of public debate, and campaigns, seems to be find a slight misstep, start screaming, and see if the story has legs. And I do not blame the candidates as much as I blame the public. It seems to happen more in forums like this then from press releases, etc. I know the campaign staffs do it as well, but we demand it, for some strange reason.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 01:10 PM) I could be wrong, but when Kap said "outclassed", I think he had a different definition than you. Not class, as in, classy. Class, as in, rank. Outclassed, in that connotation, meaning the opponent is beating the pants off you at whatever game you are playing. After rereading, I agree.
  19. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 01:50 PM) Again this from the Enquirer, but they claim the baby is an infant because of the car seat in Rielle Hunter's car. In some states car seats are manditory until a given height. But, the cancer was 4 years ago, so you are correct, it does seem as if it was post cancer.
  20. Much would also depend on the age of the baby. If the baby was pre-cancer, he's still a scum bag, but I would not expect him to turn his back on mom and his baby. If the baby was post cancer, he's a scum bag of the highest order and should never show his face in public again. Not even for a public blood letting or shamful apology. But, I am willing to wait until better proof is presented. But, there seems to be no shortage of women for these guys.
  21. Is this the same woman who had McCain's bi-racial baby I'm to the point where I can't respect a candidate who hasn't done drugs and has a few women on the side, or an extra wide stance. As long as they are not Diamond escorts. That would be worng.
  22. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 03:38 PM) That much I agree with. McCain is a bumbling idiot, sort of like our current president. He's being outclassed badly. If he would just take a stance on what Obama's policies really means to the average American's pocketbook, he'd win. But, I'm not sure he has that in him. I totally disagree that the man is a bumbling idiot. He would have have accomplished all he has if he was truly bumbling and an idiot. I also disagree, although with slightly less enthusiasm, that he is being out"classed" badly. I think once the post convention campaign kicks off, he'll kick ass. This is just idling time. And depending on your definition of class, I believe he has led his life with a lot more class then most politicians. He was royally screwed in 2000 and stayed loyal to his party and the President. Even though he could have returned the screw job in 2004 and won the office for the Dems by joining Kerry's ticket. He may be a lot of things, but an idiot and someone who could be outclassed, no way.
  23. Sidebar: How many rules and regulations do Presidential campaigns have to keep straight? The logistics of a Presidential campaign is mond boggling to me. Just getting all the bills paid takes a huge organization.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 10:56 AM) ...and hopefully one day it will be that again, our Vegas Island. I've alwys believed trade is our best ally. A couple McDonalds and we'll destroy them and their health care system
