QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 05:37 PM) As for the size of the infield grass I will ignore this thought and believe I misunderstood the intent of your comment. I was straining for a topic that was totally new, that had not already been discussed. I was not trying to trivilize anything, and actually it would be an interesting topic. A small ball, bunt style team would want slower grass and slope the lines in, a hard hitting, power team wants them slanted away, short, and fast. The "fresh" remark rings very true with me. When I was strictly a mod in SL&P, if the front page started to get stale, I worked to toss some new topics out there. We should be creating some urgency for people to log in each day, in fact several times per day. I think if you miss for a day, you should have to scroll back to the previous page to start "catching up".

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 01:21 PM) The book sounds like it will actually be pretty entartaining. I heard an NPR piece on it yesterday and the author described some pretty humorous research studies covered in the book. One of thestudies she includes had an investigator pitting tiny polyester pants on lab mice to see what the effects were on reproduction. You didn't read closely enough, one mouse had empty pockets, one had a tiny sock stuffed in the front, and one had a Castanza wallet of $20 bills.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 08:04 AM) I beleive this forum went downhill when everyone was expected to go elsewhere for general information and then everything was thrown into a catch-all thread. Threads with 260 or even 26 pages do no good. What is wrong with starting a new thread for each new thought? It either gains legs and grows or falls to the next page. When I originally signed on to this site there were links to every Sox related story for the day and then a thread. I came here for one stop shopping. Game threads used to have a Play-by-Play feel to them now if you ask for this, someone will link you to MLB.com or some other site that may update you in 3 minutes with the correct information. Instead of a new thread a good topic is discussed in the game thread and never heard from again. The fact that the Sox have struggled has this site turning into a dump on the Sox and an advesarial mood and the content is really decreasing. I think you've made some good points there. If you would please clarify something, do you mean if someone has yet another idea on Crede and Fields to start another thread, or if someone has a new idea about the height of the infield grass? It is my understanding, and someone correct me, we were trying to avoid a page of 20 threads and 6 were on Crede/Fields 5 were KW is an idiot 3 KW is genious, and the rest a smattering of anything.

The OFFICIAL "I was wrong about Joe Crede" thread

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 03:22 PM) I'm not saying they would circumvent Boras. I'm saying if they made Joe an offer along the lines of 4/44 or something, he may take it even though Boras would advise against it. I see Crede in pin stripes -
QUOTE (YASNY @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 01:20 PM) Unless, of course, you're in the 'Buster. Especially not there.

Boras is also bound to present any and all offers to Crede. I am assuming he his gone, and if he is back, I will reserve judgement based on what happened to have him back. -
QUOTE (YASNY @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) That would be the Marlins. Actually I was thinking about whats-his-name who bobbled a ball thatw as actually in play, which was actually the bigger factor in them losing. But I forget his name because of Steve.

I think there are a few roles for a frozen pizza. Without beer, snack With beer, dinner/lunch etc. After many beers* *these are the ones that are sometimes found here or after the fire alarm has gone off because you forgot to take it out of the box. DiGornio etc work for #1 and #2, Tombstone, Tony's, etc takes over for #2 and #3

Blasphemy to some, whatcha got? Tombstone is my go to pizza, I always have one in the freezer. I do not consider it "pizza" in the truest sense of the title, but sometimes, you just got to heat the oven to 425

In that spirit, someone should have a Steve Bartman day. He saved a few players the same sort of treatment by being their scapegoat.

I learned something, I always thought that was his last season with the Sawks. He played four more, so I'm wondering why that lingered so long after he retired.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 12:14 PM) That's pretty cool, I'll have to find the journal article and give it a read. Based just on the CNN story, I'd assume the investigator mis-spoke when he called these frogs "the most ancient" frogs you'll find. Surely, this lungless species evolved from a normal lung-bearing line that lost the organs at some point. Otherwise, there would be a lot of fossil evidence of lunglessness being an ancestral trait in frogs. I also don't have a good feel for the scale of the animal from the CNN article. Cutaneous and buccal respiration are usually considered insignificant to be the primary means of respiration in animals with any sort of size to them. The article also suggests that the frogs are not entirely sedentary if they have to navigate the fast streams they live in. High physical activity levels would be really interesting to see in a vertebrate that only respires cutaneously. Very cool stuff. Thanks for posting. /back for a sec Or they started out and realized "I'm lungless, I'm without lungs!" /gone {damn were is PA, I can't do this on my own}

Sad really, usually a good Stern reference would have this a 50 post thread before lunch. Perhaps that's a gauge. At least we know Howard has the integrity to not stage a fight between his co-entertainers.

QUOTE (lukeman89 @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 11:24 AM) according to baseball reference... nolan ryan's career hbp 0 outs - 52 1 out - 50 2 outs - 56 Thank you, I dislike repeating erroneous material. I'm glad you knew were to look that up.

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 12:51 PM) Wife is being transferred back to Chicago. We are also having our first child, and while we would have definitely stayed in Austin, it's going to be nice to have family around. By all means, move to Austin if you can. It's a great city! And you are just far enough from places like Kap-opolis and Texsoxville to make it enjoyable! I'd transfer to Austin in a heart beat.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 10:13 AM) Because we're a bunch of idiots who care more about watching American Idol than voting in our elections. While that is a very popular characterization, I think we underestimate our interest in elections and what is happening. And it is meeting people here that has changed my perception. Lots of people care, but you seriously can't spend the same time caring about elections as you do on entertainment. There is still a lot more we could do, but it is not as bleak as we sometimes think. As long as we have people like SS who have the balls to run for office, and people like Rex who will work for candidates, I'm staying optimistic.

It seems correct to keep a set lineup this time of year. Lots of days off early in the season.

Pet peeve, TV and radio ads, shows etc, that have ringing phones in the background. Wthout a Trace is terrible for this. At least once an episode I think my ohone is ringing. Dammit, I'm an old man and can't always get up

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 10:56 AM) If I lived in Mesa, I would do the same thing. On a different note, my wife and I are moving back to Chicago from Austin this weekend. Sorry Tex, Kap and all the other "Texans" that have moved down here. Here's the kicker...we are buying a house in Oak Park, selling our house here, driving with a 34 week pregnant wife, a crazy cat, trying to find a job, staying with relatives and in a hotel and trying not to bite each others heads off. Fun, eh? "I was not born in Texas, but I got here just as soon as I could!!!" And to add to that, left just as quick! I'll wave Kap as I drive through Big D. Just remember, you are raising the IQ in two states by moving to Chicago
