  1. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 2, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) Oh s***! Now Copacabana is playing in my head. Thanks a lot, pal. His name was Rico, he wore a diamond He was escorted to his chair, he saw Lola dancin' there . . .
  2. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 11:30 AM) If my ex was a computer, she would be very reliable and sought after. Like a good computer, she never went down. Like a Mac . . .
  3. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 11:21 AM) I wonder what I could get for my Lisa? That your ex-wife?
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 11:17 AM) I disagree. That is certainly fair. Would you call them evil? For the most part they led decent, law abiding lives until then.
  5. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 11:05 AM) That truly is sad for your "family member." If you want, I can send you some laserdiscs to make up for it. Maybe and Apple IIe. Sweet! That will be a nice upgrade to the Commodore Vic-20 the same family member lost via the same avenue. A mint, still in the box, unused, Vic 20 that recently sold on a large auction site for many. many times, the original price.
  6. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 10:42 AM) That's a $60 million rotation. That's what we had the past few years.
  7. QUOTE(rangercal @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 10:29 AM) I would take 5 Garlands over what we have now. I wouldn't go that far, but I would take three or four Garlands. I think five Garlands get you pretty damn close to a playoff spot.
  8. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 10:14 AM) The only way to really watch Deep Throat as it was truly intended is on the ol' Betamax, Baby. Up in an attic at my folks' place in Chicago I still have 8-track versions of Hendrix' Smash Hits, Led Zeppelin II, Zappa's Over-Nite Sensation, Deep Purple's Made in Europe live album, Three Dog Night's Greatest Friggin' Hits, and the Grease and Jesus Christ Superstar soundtracks. The Zappa tape is one of a handful of commercial titled actually released in quadraphonic stereo, so it represents the nexus between two DOA dinosaur technologies and so of course I'm very proud of it. Mind if I smoke while you eat? classic baby My family tells a tragic tale from way back in the early eighties, before I was born. Seems a certain family member had an extensive collection of classic rock on 8-track tapes, and some not so classic 8-tracks that were received as gifts by well meaning, but ultimately tasteless relatives. During a garage sale, the family member reached into the crap box and tried selling a couple dozen crap disco stuff for $2.00 each to the unsuspecting public. His ever helpful mother, when these are not selling, (duh) takes boxes of his 8-tracks and begins selling them for .25 or 5/$1. In the end, that music collection of several hundred titles, was reduced to a handful of dirty, tattered, dollar bills that served little comfort. He never recovered, and to this day, whenever some vintage Head East or Jeff Beck is played, you can see the tears well in his eyes.
  9. If you only enjoy baseball when you're team is winning or a front runner, you might as well be a Yankess fan, and they only win the WS about 25% of the time, with the Sox you have less than a 1% chance. I love watching Thome hit a couple homeruns, his arm extension just looks awesome to me. I like the personalities on this team. I wish I was back in Chicago more for games. I can spend an afternoon watching my college team play and have a great time, win or lose. I'm hoping Crede plays well, and that Fields has a chance to play, I think he's going to be great. So no matter what happens, I'm happy. Those that have taken up sides, like Hatfield and McCoys will only be happy if "their guy" is starting.
  10. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Apr 2, 2008 -> 11:12 AM) He had zero strikeouts and he was facing a young, aggressive batting order. Baseball Prospectus had a really interesting line on him, saying that 25% of his outs last year were lineouts. He's a league average pitcher and I'd bet some money he doesn't perform well this year at all. League average?! That does suck, considering most staffs have 5 guys better then league average.
  11. Every silver lining has a touch of grey, and some people want to stay under that black cloud. Dump it all here.
  12. They haven't even thrown the first drunk out at the Cell. Plenty of new faces around the team who are still trying to gel. Plenty of exciting baseball yet to be played. If you want to be negative, there is a trhead for that. If you want to point out the birth mark on Cindy Crawford, the posts will be moved to the appropriate thread. Let's have one place to go to feel better about this team.
  13. QUOTE(shipps @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 08:59 AM) If Iam not mistaken,wouldnt people have laughed at a betamax reference even when it first came out? No, this was actually an interesting study in marketing. By almost all independent accounts, Beta offered the better picture quality, but did not have the recording time of VHS. One hour versus two hours. Since you could fit two hours of recording on the VHS, it fit movies better and really helped to kill the market. Beta was first in the market and offered a better picture, but failed. It was also Sony (Beta) vs. JVC/Matus***a (VHS) which also pointed to a victory for Beta. So when it first came out, it was the only option, and people loved it. They did not love the $1,000+ price tag for a home recorder, but they loved the tech. Even a year or so later when VHS came out, people didn't laugh at the Beta format. That really started several years later. Or at least that is what old guys like FlaSoxxJim and YASNY tell me.

    Has the Pony Express stopped running? They all have issues, but seriously, they are all amazing. Send this half way across the globe in 24 hours please.
  15. Good men thought they needed to do this to protect America. I find it sad that we believe we need to abandon our freedoms, our ideals, and basic decency to stay safe.
  16. Anybody got any 8-tracks and betamax movies?
  17. My gf teaches 3rd grade, I was looking over the tools and thinking; that's exactly what I bring for a weekend trip with her!
  18. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 2, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) I just donated blood to impress a girl today. I hope by donating blood you mean you played Rugby. Seriously, if that is the worse thing you do to impress a girl or get laid, you have more control than I. Tex "Went to see Barry Manilow" Sox
  19. Bottom line *for me* and of course your mileage may vary. If you lined up all the friends, relatives, pastors, co-workers, donors, campaign volunteers, attorneys, clients, hanger ons, baby sitters, people who call themselves friends, meter readers, landscapers, hairdressers, and check out clerk at their favorite grocery store, every candidate is going to have some scumbags on the list. And each candidates supporters will explain, and truly believe, that their candidates scumbags are prettier then the other candidates scumbags. If you have time, and want to wail about the other guys scum bags, type away.
  20. And I believe Fields will turn out to be a better player in the long run. I will kiss Fields ass evbefry chance I get to get you guys off my f***ing ass.
  21. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 1, 2008 -> 09:58 PM) They play different games offensively. Is it fair to ask Juan Uribe to match Alex Sanchez's career average? Besides that, as Rock pointed out, it wouldn't be hard for Fields to hit .260. That would also come with more walks and more power too. Fields' upside is way, way higher than Crede's, and Crede's gone after this year. Why wouldn't you want a player who got better as the year went on and who is still getting better over a player who is coming off a back injury, has almost certainly peaked as a player, and is gone after this year anyways? One of these guys has to hit Crede's best years. I don't judge a guy on one season. Disagree all you want, but I'm not wasting any more time in this thread.
  22. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 1, 2008 -> 08:57 PM) Once again proving you havent actually read my posts. Crede's numbers are fairly obvious. He had an outlier season and you think this is what he is capable of every year, its just not statistically the case. And approaching Joe's numbers? Crede career .258 .304 .445 Fields 1/2 season rookie year .244 .308 .480 You have a rookie who improved month over month and already puts up the same numbers as Joe Crede. Once again, his win shares approached that of Crede's best year. And IM still waiting for the names of teams that would trade their starting 3B for Crede. 2005 was a great year and all, but get off this guys jock. Would you all be clamoring for Pedro Feliz to stay on this team, because thats basically the type of player Crede is. Either Fields or Crede need to hit Crede's best years or else we are stepping backwards which is not acceptable. You can keep arguing with yourself, and can do a few things also with yourself.
  23. Both of these guys fit different holes and depending on what the team needs are, would indicate which is a better fit. My guess, based on what Detroit and Cleveland trots out on the field each day, I'd guess that Fields will be our better option come summer.
  24. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 1, 2008 -> 07:22 PM) When is he supposed to prove this to you? My only comment about Fields, is the same I would make for any player, *I* need to see more than one season. If you really need to know how a player gets a chance, there are many ways. But I assume you know this, so I wonder why you ask. Some players are called up because of an injury, play well, and stay on the roster. Others replace a retired player. Still others replace a traded player. Then some play well in spot starts, as pitch hitters, late inning defensive spots, etc. Some get to play because they signed big contracts and the GM doesn't want to look like a fool. Some get to play because the team is trying to trade them and other teams need to see them in action. And I'm certain there are many more. ANd if I can try and anticipate your mext question, there are different goals each season, and at different times during the season. After one game, giving Fields starts so he can prove himself, would not be a high priority. But maybe later this summer.
