Ahem, sorry. What a difference when you speak to someone with a little authority and common sense. But that rant was just what I needed at the moment.

Olympics / Tibet Issue
I have mixed feelings, I think SS hit the nail on the head, that we really should depoliticize the Olympics and hold the games and keep them above this sort of thing, at least as much as we can. Also, every country has someone who would protest something they have done/are doing/will do. No person, or country, is perfect. Having said that, as an American, freedom of speach is something I hold dear, so advocating others to STFU doesn't sit well either.

Palestinians kill rare & endangered sea turtle
We are one of the major breeding grounds for the Ridley sea turtle and take that responsibility very seriously around here. All dredging operations are required to have nets out in front to capture and release the turtles, we have regular beach patrols during breeding season to protect the nest, a very active Turtle center. And it's all worth it each summer when we have the releases and see them heading to the ocean.

The Start of a Season, Why Are You Here?
To summarize to this point, and someone jump in if I'm off base. Some negativity is fine, even welcome, but when it gets run into the ground and spills over into other threads, it's too much. Disagree with the statements, not the poster Be personable without taking anything personal, or making it personal Think before submitting, add something. (I believe the "I Agree" is a welcome post and does add validation) The emoticons and women are great

The Rant Thread
Since there was no place this really fit, and it was something I needed to say, but y'all really do not need to read it, in fact you will find this has been a waste of 45 seconds of your life. But it will make me feel better that this is in a semi-public forum. f*** this mother f***ing university and their stupid f***ing requirements for simply registering for classes. Pardon my mother f***ing ass when I asked for an advisement appointment three f***ing weeks ago, and you could not get me in until April 22, which I thought was to release the f***ing hold so I could register for classes. But that's a different appointment and I should have called it "Assistance" instead of Advisment". So I'd advise you to stick this up your ass and I'll even assist, now I know the difference. And while I'm at it, f*** you for only offering a required course during the day when adults with responsibilities and mother f***ing jobs can't attend. So you finally offer it at night, I'm a dean's list senior that should be registering today, but instead I'm watching the f***ing class fill. 22 of 40 seats gone in 90 minutes. Helena Montana doesn't sell out that fast. And f*** you for not realizing person to person face time went out in the 1980s and we now have the internet and telephones that are effective communication devices. And since this appointment is little more than a f***ing sales call so you can tell me about your graduate program, save your breath to kiss my ass. And how is your day?

The Wright Questions For Obama
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) Now, that is just silly. Just about every talking head was wanting him to cut the Reverend adrift. Every pundit, and plenty of whispers from the Clinton campaign, wanted him to repudiate his relationship with the Reverend. truth is the first casualty of war, and presidential campaigns.

Your first place Chicago White Sox!
Trade everyone while they are at an all-time high Great game to watch. I do not get to see many, and settled in with small expectations. Wow. This team looks good, but it is hard to look bad winning 13-2

what in the bloody hell do you look like
I'm the one downhill. My buddy spent years in television and know how to always have the better camera angle. No gorillas but did see a mountain lion, which was very cool. Big Bend National Park 2006. Great trip.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 10:42 AM) Coincidence. I'm sure some WS winners had 4-game losing streaks. Just because it didn't happen at the start of the season doesn't mean much. What should worry them more is how wretched Dontrelle looked yesterday. Even when he was throwing a no-hitter he looked like crap. If he can't be at least a competent innings-eater, that's big trouble, especially with the bullpen woes. Excellent analysis. That stat would be much more meaningful in football where 4 games is a bigger percentage of all the games played. Even in basketball and hockey, it would have slightly more meaning. I'd be interested if any team has avoided a 4 games losing streak and not won a WS.- Positive Catch All
It's early, but I really think come early fall, this will still be a race.- The "Mighty" Detroit Tigers
Just think, this was the team, along with Cleveland, who had many posters here believing we should throw in the towel for the season, trade every veteran, and wait until we "had a chance".- Carlos Quentin - Nick Swisher - Jermaine Dye
After the Spring, I'm happy with BA as the 3/4 CF and actually would like to see him have opportunities to be successful. Increasing value in players is not a bad idea as long as it doesn't hurt the team. And it is great to see that Oz has some options there. In fact he has some options all around the field.- The Wright Questions For Obama
QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 10:12 AM) Lee Harvey Oswald was a Marine also... I'm pretty sure he isn't a patriot. So as long as Wright didn't assassinate a President, he's still cool as a patriot? I can't see placing him below those that used wealth, privilege, various deferments, etc. to avoid service. Last I looked, freedom of (most kinds) of speach are allowed, so what he is doing is legal.- The Start of a Season, Why Are You Here?
I understand things change when the team is doing well versus doing poorly, but look at the board over the off season, ZERO games played, and people were still negative. And keeping topics in proper threads is something that needs to be done. But I swear you could start a thread about the corn fields of Dekalb and three posts later there would be a Crede / Fields debate going.- The Wright Questions For Obama

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 09:28 PM) Me in Vegas for Halloween a couple years back. Who's the guy?- The Start of a Season, Why Are You Here?
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 06:56 PM) I come because it is a great place for information and I've made several "friends" here who I PM with routinely. I've met several people from this forum. That's why I come to SoxTalk overall. Before I give any more information, I'd like assurances that further feedback is free. That is: we are allowed to speak freely and openly, as long as it is with good faith, no matter if it is critical of X or Y. Actually, I am only going to share my thoughts with Gage, but want to clarify what I meant with the second "paragraph" of this post -- I didn't mean critical of any posters or moderators or Administrators. This goes to anyone, please feel free to PM a mod or admin, if you are more comfortable.- The Start of a Season, Why Are You Here?
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 11:20 AM) Having discussed this a few times recently, I have been thinking that it isnt really specific people, but rather the tone of the entire base of soxtalk members. I love coming here and reading opinions and arguments and stories and experiences, from the SLaM forum all the way up to Pale Hose Talk, I love the entire website. Its the first and last thing I read during the day, the speed of the flow of information through soxtalk rivals cnn.com sometimes. It just seems that a lot of resentment has built up throughout the site recently. Maybe it is because it is an election year, maybe its because the Sox had a severely subpar year last year, maybe it is just the evolution of the type of discussion that happens here, I dont know. To me it just seems like every post is baited, the people that used to really enjoy the site are unhappy, and people turn on each other far too quickly anymore. This post is not directed at any one person specifically. I am probably just as guilty as any one else of anything I mentioned. to answer your question, I am here because I view coming to this site as meeting a great bunch of friends, some of whom really get along, others not so much. BINGO! That in a nutshell has been a number of conversations we've had as mods and admins and wondering what, or even if, we should do something about it. Years ago, I wondered why a Sox forum would ban specific topics, like attendance or Mariotti. While attendance has not been a cantankerous issue here, there are many times I wish we would ban Crede/Fields threads and Mariotti myself. We have some people who come here to complain and some who come here to feel better about being a Sox fan. perhaps those two are at odds to each other and each need separate space.- The Wright Questions For Obama
The issue with these types of questions, is the reader has already answered them. If Obama was to answer them, for those that are glamoring the most for answers, there are only two types of answers possible. The answers they have already decided on, or lies. So unless his answers matched exactly what the audience already believes (which is to say the worse possible) they will dismiss what he has to say as lies.- Konerko Commercial
Nice. Having fun, which is what it should be about.- The Wright Questions For Obama
QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 10:00 AM) All 14 of those questions are valid. I see nothing wrong with them. No one knows anything really about Obama. It'd be nice if he actually got some hardball questions instead of the usual crap he gets on shows like the view. As valid as asking the other candidates if they stopped beating their kids - The "Mighty" Detroit Tigers
