How good will Luis Robert be, and how quickly will he reach his peak?
Really going out on a limb there. ? He’s really one of only a handful of athletes I’ve ever watched who commands instant double takes, who just seems “built different.” If he can avoid injury and keep his head in the game I am giddy to see what he can turn into.

White Sox v. Angels 3/1
I’ve long had a weird feeling Adolfo would break out in a huge way when we least expect it. Hopefully it’s this year.

Fans at opening day? Fans at Opening Day! (confirmed)
Anybody have any insight into when the tickets might go on sale?

I'm going to enjoy the White Sox this year
But it is a certainty! Why can't you see it? Are you unable to see, or just insane? Either way, you are avoiding the point. And proving his argument. Which means you can't have an intelligent argument without avoiding the point or proving his argument. Which proves he's right. Why can't you see it? Why why why? Well, congratulations on proving his point. He's done with you, he has other, more serious arguments to attend to. That about does it, right? Saved you (and us) four or five repetitive posts of steadily increasing length and vitriol (all *Edited* -- because damnit, that last one could've been *more* off-putting). Back to baseball, yes?

Well, if the Sox succeed this season you can add them to this list. Let’s hold off on writing our epitaphs for this team as their window is just opening. Perhaps we let it play out.

Yeah, I think he specializes in that painting-on-a-grain-of-rice trick. And I hear he can build a ship in a bottle...from the inside.

I do wish RH would fly above this kind of stuff. Leave the puzzling, gratuitous anti-fan aggression to Stone, Jerry and Co.

TLR publicity train
Imagine that - using 2021 rosters to predict 2021 results! This is the point I was making when I mentioned the Padres in the thread above. For reasons too obvious to require explanation, it's absurd to penalize this year's roster for the performance of different White Sox rosters of the past (many of which were designed to lose during recent tank seasons). It's especially ridiculous when you're willing to judge teams like the Padres solely by their current roster and ignore their even more established history of futility.

You're talking about a completely different point.

Andrew Vaughn Article - 3B/OF and Opening Day considerations
That's got some interesting stuff, hadn't read that before. It's heavy on the post-trade period, and I take it all with a grain of salt given that it's from the mouths of Padres scouts who have a vested interest in making themselves sound good. But still, sounds like despite not pursuing him hard in 2015, the Padres did target him specifically in '16.

Andrew Vaughn Article - 3B/OF and Opening Day considerations
I think the bottom line is we'd have to know more about the Padres' scouting of Tatis, and their decisionmaking process in that trade, to be able to evaluate how much was scouting and how much was luck. It's possible they had him pegged as a star and couldn't believe their luck when we were stupid enough to trade him. It's possible they basically picked his name out of a hat, thought no more of him than we did, and were as shocked as we were when they saw what they had. It's possible they were at any number of points on the spectrum between those extremes. I don't know enough to know, but I think it's fair to say there was a substantial element of "surprise" in Tatis's outperformance of his perceived value as of 2016.

I think they thought he was BPA. Lots of folks at the time hyped him as the best/smartest college player they'd ever seen. I don't think they drafted based on need - IIRC Moncada was still thought of as our primary 2b at the time, and it's not like our outfield was "full." He was above Kelenic in every mock I saw.

Andrew Vaughn Article - 3B/OF and Opening Day considerations
Then again, how does having Tatis impact other moves the FO has made since? I play this game all the time with Tatis, with the hypothetical world where we signed Machado, etc. For example, does this frugal front office "splurge" on Robert if it has Tatis in the fold? Would they have set their sights on some other free agent rather than Machado given the crowded future infield? Maybe they'd have entertained trade proposals for Anderson? I'm not saying the Tatis move wasn't a huge error, but you can't just plug him into the current lineup like nothing else would've changed - anybody who's watched the "Back to the Future" trilogy knows that.

Who knows, but I don't think we need to expect that outcome necessarily -- from my understanding long-lasting symptoms were the exception, not the rule, for someone his age. Multiple young people in my family have now had COVID and none had any symptoms that lasted more than a few days.

2021 Plan for Kopech and Crochet
I love it, actually. Too lazy to do the math on the innings, but with the number of times the fifth starter is skipped I suspect it would work out.

Cubs 2021
The second Chicago team. Official color: offputtingly-bright blue. Official logos: baby bear / sans-serif "C" / rapidly closing window. Official odors: pee-pee / failure. The slide into mediocrity continues? One last run with the 2016 core? Discuss. Sorry-not-sorry in advance to the too-cool-for-crosstown-rivalry set.

Only JR knew of new TLR DUI upon interview and hire
You're still stuck in the same place. Where on earth are you getting the idea that I don't "take exception with" Tony LaRussa's criminal actions? I think what he did is terrible, I don't support the hire, and I think the organization has handled the situation as poorly as I could possibly imagine. Now back to the actual point. I now realize it was you who originally said TLR is a "felon" (two-time felon, I think?) That's false, no matter how you slice it. The statutes that restrict felons' voting rights, for example, don't have a category for "shorthand felon," or "felon depending on how you look at it." If you called TLR a "felon" in a court filing you'd be subject to sanction. You should just acknowledge it, but somehow it seems like you're still digging. That's your right--this is a message board, after all, not a court of law--but as a moderator you should try to do better in my humble opinion.

Good to see Burger's name on there. I hope he shocks the world and just starts raking. I guess stranger things have happened.

Only JR knew of new TLR DUI upon interview and hire
Say what? I didn't say anything about TLR (let alone OJ) being "innocent." I didn't defend his actions in any way. I don't even like the hire. With all due respect, you completely missed the point.
-
Only JR knew of new TLR DUI upon interview and hire
I'm well aware of all that. But "felon" and "felony" are legal terms of art with fixed meaning. You're either a "felon" or you're not, and he is not. If you want to say he's a jerk, fine. If you want to make a broader point about the legal system, fine. If you want to say that you think he's wrongly convicted, or that he was over- or under-charged, fine. But saying he is a "felon" is simply false, and saying so is not tantamount to anything--it's a statement of fact.
