QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 01:11 PM) Your HR is stupid. This is giving you the chance to go out and find more money. I agree 100%, our HR for the IT org here has been awful from what I can tell. They can't seem to figure out how to structure the organization, we have a big mix of senior and group managers even though both titles mean the same thing. And on my team we don't have like Service Engineer I, Service Engineer II, etc, we just have Senior Service Engineer for everyone, even though there is a clear difference in salary and responsibilities that each team member has. They even had to give our top engineer a different title all together to make him a lvl 3. Now my manager and our senior manager have to go through and clean up their mess. The sad thing is about the whole situation is that I would love to work here fulltime, it's where I want to be, and I told my manager that as long as the offer is industry competitive I would probably accept it.

Still haven't gotten an offersheet, apparently HR feels that offering this early would put to much pressure on me to accept or deny now, even though my manager said that the timeframe he would give me would be flexible and would make sure I had ample time to look elsewhere if I so desired. But my director had a one on one lunch with me yesterday and told me that he would back me for an offer if needed (and this was all on him, I didn't ask him for anything) and said that he would love to be my mentor. I am really excited about that since he's well respected in the company and we seem to have many of the same values, hopefully it opens up some doors for me while I learn from some of the best management we have.
  3. The Morel situation is pretty much exactly the same as the Anderson one, we thought we had enough talent and production around the guy to let him slide as a defense only, learn to hit MLB pitching player, but now he's being put in the #2 hole (and not really deserving that spot either). Hopefully we don't kill his career, though he does seem to have a better head on him than Anderson.
  4. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 08:40 AM) Man, I haven't been this excited about a message board post in forever. On another note, I could have called this one. I'm not trying to brag; I'm just saying this was never headed to good places. Don't worry about it, Joe...in the end you'll be better off for it. As soon as he said she was wasted it was pretty easy to read into what was going to happen next lol.

Well one thing always happens with family in town, we get drunk. And that's why I love them.
  6. Sure I'll play along. Yes, but you would have to wait about 5 months, eat most of Dunn's remaining $50 mill and then sign Pujols to a $250 mill and up deal.
  7. There are two scenarios that arise from that article: 1) The most likely, Bowman is an idiot or he is reporting whatever the team tells him too. 2) The Braves are the dumbest organization for even considering Pierre

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 02:25 PM) "Wilfred" sucks. Oh wow, you can make a guy in a dog suit hump a teddy bear. It's not original, it's just stupid. There is zero thought put into that moronic show, and there is there zero reason for a dog's persona to smoke and drink. FX greenlit a pile of s*** here. Brian Griffin.
  9. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 09:08 AM) Those people should be fired. Hell, the government would be a lot more efficient if they had the ability to fire crappy employees. But a lot of these GS bums have tenure and can't be fired for anything. That's generally one advantage the private sector has over the public sector: the ability to clean out the waste. If you work in the private sector you will realize that people become very good at making a perception that they are important to the company even when they do nothing, and leadership can't always see through it or it isn't a priority for them. Hell, sometimes it's their good friends and they won't listen to it.
  10. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 09:04 AM) Once again, there are exceptions to the rule. There are a few people I've met who went military because they didn't know where else to go. And the military provides discipline so that aimless recruits like this can be molded into decent Soldiers and perhaps even above-average or excellent NCOs someday. The military will shape pretty much anyone to be exactly what it wants them to be. That sort of discipline would work wonders on these civilians, unfortunately we can't really force them to attend boot camp. I'm glad as an American that I'm not forced to go to boot camp.
  11. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 08:51 AM) Public sector work is a lifestyle now? Ha. Like I said, I chose to have that internship over partying, sleeping in, hanging out with friends. So yes, that was a lifestyle choice I made. FYI, I have an internship in the private sector now (2nd one at this company) and trust me, while there are many great minds here, there are plenty of people who do whatever they can jsut to keep their job.
  12. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 08:49 AM) It's just what I've what I've witnessed, Sqwert. There are exceptions to both of them. LostFan served in the military, so I'd count him as a patriot regardless of his political views. And there are good public workers. Just not many. You're not going to change that opinion by whining and trying to get me banned. Lostfan could be the laziest f*** to walk the earth (not saying he is), but according to your logic you haven't worked with him so how would you know? Im sure he says he's a good worker (really not trying to bash Lost here, his name just got brought up). I know plenty of people in the military who are surrounded by assholes and idiots (hey maybe you know some of them!!?!). Hell, if you want to say a general rule of thumb, there is one that many people believe that if you go into the military it's a last resort to save yourself and/or your career.
  13. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 08:44 AM) Sheesh. Calm down. There are exceptions to my belief. I've met a very few decent individuals who work for the government. But as a general rule of thumb, people who go into the private sector are far more competent than people who go into the public sector. Let's have attacks on someone's lifestyle and then tell them to calm down! Sounds like what all conservatives do!
  14. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 08:33 AM) No, the military is the exception. The military functions with discipline, order and a sense of urgency. The civilians who work with us, not so much. For example, everytime I've gone to CIF (central issue facility), some guy will always state that there is no time for fooling around and that we have so much to get done. The Soldiers acknowledge this and respond accordingly, but the fat trailer-park civilians whom we have to turn our stuff into sit there and play on their phones or chat with their friends. You practically have to throw your stuff at them to get them to do their job. If you weren't in the military, I wouldn't expect you to understand. But I see this every day. Guess what, this occurs at EVERY single private firm. There will ALWAYS be people that don't do their job, or are lazy, etc. You won't be able to avoid that, not here, not in the military (yes there are assholes and idiots aplenty in the military too), not overseas, not anywhere.
  15. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 08:21 AM) Passion? Are you kidding me? I refuse to believe you've ever met a person who has worked for the government. Seriously...passion for their jobs? Wow. And BigSqwert, you can whine all you want, but I'd be surprised if you ever met a government worker yourself. And even if either of you have met a decent public employee in your lives, it doesn't change the fact that the private sector is far more effective. Yes, I have worked under many people in public jobs (at my university, specifically University Housing). Are there some chumps working there? Yup. But I could easily list off a number of people who chose to go into that field because they are PASSIONATE about their work, they choose to get paid crap because they CAN make a difference there. You may not notice that difference if you spend a day there, but if you look at where that campus was just a few years ago and where it is now, you will notice the impact they have had on it. And, I also worked for the university as an intern while on campus, and I would say I was pretty passionate about that too. I could've been out partying (more), studying (ha!), or hanging with friends during that time I worked but I chose to take that job not because I needed the money (I didn't) but because it was something I really wanted to do. So yes, there are passionate people in the public sector. So STFU with your hyperbole.
  16. For years he was loved in the Ann Arbor/Detroit area (lived there for 5 years). But his inability to hit has caught up to him and the lvoe that the fans have for him. I do remember an article would come out every spring training about how athletic Inge is, they say underneath his uniform is a football body, nobody would dare fight him, he's the most athletic player on the team if not the majors, etc. Reporters and players raved about how in shape he was.
  17. That's a whole nother debate right there. I know plenty of idiots in private business and plenty of very competent and great workers in the public sector. Let's not get carried away and say that everyone who goes into the public sector is a dumbass/lazy worker. Believe it or not but some people have a passion for their jobs in the government.
  18. QUOTE (The Baconator @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 04:20 PM) I'm clearly no 'foodie' but I'm totally ok with the processed 'meat' from Taco Bell. If they told me it was made out of cat, I would still eat it. If they killed the cat in front of me, I would still eat it. Anxiously awaiting Sqwert's response and hoping he lives up to the expectations.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 01:39 PM) Addison Reed? Venters would be so sexy to have, but man he would probably cost CQ.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 01:44 PM) When have you ever seen me quote a comedian for weight? Or for any reason in this forum? I thought we all knew that NSS didn't have funny bone
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 11:36 AM) No sir. I grow cotton in my yard. I also salvage used steel....American made of course. Sounds socialist to me, a true American believes in free markets and capitalism.
  22. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 08:41 AM) This off-season was the time to do it. Me and Dick Allen were very vocal on "selling high". I was shot down everytime I mentioned it. I just wanted out of that contract so bad, and although I didn't think he would be this bad I figured on a .700 - .750 OPS, and for what we are paying him that is unacceptable.
  23. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 08:46 AM) The Thunderbolt supposedly has very very bad battery life, unless it's not connected to a 4G network...but since it's a 4G phone, that's like saying this device has great battery life, unless you use it for what we designed it for! I'm weary of Samsung devices, they're usually designed well (now, anyway), but they have a history of little to no support. When the next device from Samsung comes out (which in the Android world is about 2 months), forget about them ever looking back at previous models...they also have a history of non updates or very slow to market updates. That said, if you get an Android, you'll probably want to root/hack it...which is what I dislike about the entire Android model. Non hacked Android devices are crap, and paying hundreds of dollars for something you have to hack to make good is just something I have no interest in. Any idea on when a 4G iphone will be released?
  24. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 08:32 AM) The problem with 4G is it's still being rolled out, and the chips that power it are in their infancy phase...meaning they're still power hungry. 4G phones on an actual 4G connection run out of power pretty quickly...but if you don't care about power consumption because you always have a way to charge it's not a big concern. I almost always have a way to charge my phone, so power isn't much of an issue. That said, the newer 4G phones that will be coming out this year will probably use 1/2 the power on a 4G connection. As for unlimited data, don't worry too much about that either, 99% of the time, you'll be on a WiFi network, be it your own, or a friends...so you'll probably never come near those "caps". I think I use, on average, 450MB per month, and I use my phone a LOT...mostly because most of my data is going over WiFi, not cellular data networks. As for which phone to buy, that's all personal preference. Yea I may just wait until the Bionic comes out and see the reviews on that, I haven't been impressed enough by the Samsung Charge or HTC Thunderbolt enough to make that big of a price jump.
  25. I need to upgrade my Verizon phone, I currently have a dumbphone that's pretty much broken and I want to finally upgrade to a smartphone. I figure if Im going to I may as well get a 4G phone, any suggestions? I believe Verizon is getting rid of the unlimited data plan on the 7th unfortunately.
