Catch All Anything Thread
QUOTE (The Baconator @ May 27, 2011 -> 02:21 PM) I've got to say, this is my first time ever venturing into this very vague "catch all anything" thread... and it feels like I found a secret grotto. This is amazing! How have I never been here? It's seriously like a peaceful haven away from the angry, circular arguments in Pale Hose. Or the filibuster

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 27, 2011 -> 02:24 PM) It's not un-American. However, anyone that does it, IMO, loses the ability to to cry about foreign nations "stealing our jobs". I'm not one that cries about it, either, it's a reality of a global economy. That said, there is nothing more infuriating than having to listen to a rant from someone about foreign jobs/outsourcing when they jump in their foreign cars and fly to foreign countries on all of their vacations, and spend their money there instead of here. Again, to clarify, I'm not crying about the reality of economics, or that people should buy only American, because I agree with you on that. But I also don't do it and then b**** about the things that go hand in hand with it. Pretty much. No one should be making such a statement anyways, not in this day and age. It's well documented that many foreign cars actually have more parts made in the USA than many American cars. The hypocripsy that politicians and the media spew out is unbearable most of the time.

6 man rotation
QUOTE (IamtheHBOMB @ May 27, 2011 -> 02:19 PM) At the end of the game last night, I noticed a graphic on the right field wall in Toronto that showed Edwin's picture and said he was warming in the pen? Did anyone else notice that? Maybe that is a precursor of what is to come? Yea I kept seeing that, but Ejax wasn't in the bullpen warming up, only Santos was.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2011 -> 10:39 AM) I guess a party chairman being a hypocrite isn't news anymore? http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-roo...-drive-american The whole buy "american" company cars is such a scam anyways, nobody should be pointing out that buying a "foreign" car is unamerican.

6 man rotation
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 27, 2011 -> 01:10 PM) I am saying put Jackson in the pen or trade Danks. The return would be greater for Danks, so if you are going to move one, you move him. If you are going to stash one in the bullpen to buy time to see 1) whether Humber falters; 2) whether Peavy can stay healthy; or 3) whether we get back into this race and start pushing Cleveland, then I think it needs to be Jackson so that you preserve Danks' trade value and possibly his confidence. Exactly what I was thinking

6 man rotation
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 27, 2011 -> 12:57 PM) Is it fair to say Danks and Jackson are fairly close though? If so, I think you have to error on the side of Jackson for multiple reasons... So do you mean to say trade Ejax or Danks then? Because Danks would return the most, and if the production isnt that far off the rest of the way...

6 man rotation
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 27, 2011 -> 10:43 AM) No, it was directed at me alright. I think that certain people have taken up such a hard stance about the Jackson/Hudson trade that it has caused Jackson to be a bit of a polarizing figure in here. Now I have been Jackson's biggest fan, or one of them anyways, and even I can see that Humber deserves to push him to the pen. I honestly would rather Danks go, but I don't want to crush his trade value right now, so I say if you can't stick with the 6 man rotation (and I am not sure why you can't), then Jackson has to be the one to go. I am actually shocked it isnt at me, didn't really make sense to me that it was at you... I would trade Danks in a heartbeat if it meant getting back a studly young player at C, or a few stud SP prospects, but you don't trade him unless you get the package you need.

6 man rotation
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 27, 2011 -> 10:39 AM) Are you kidding me? Wtf are you talking about? I may argue with certain posters quite a bit in here, but Russ knows I am always very interested of his opinion and very respectful of his posts. Trolling? After 6 years and 10,000 posts I am f***ing trolling? *Raises hand I think that was directed at me.

6 man rotation
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2011 -> 10:34 AM) Its really apparent he is just looking to troll at this point. Um no, I was specifically talking about Humber vs. Jackson, no where did I bring up Hudson. As much as I hated that trade, this is what we have, and the fix to this situation is not moving Humber out of the rotation.

6 man rotation
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 27, 2011 -> 10:25 AM) If anything, his insane whip shows that's he's not doing this with smoke and mirrors. The guy has just been freakin fantastic so far. Do I expect him to keep going like this? Hell no. But to put your best starter in the bullpen because he makes the least amount of money(and lets be honest that's the ONLY reason he'd be going to the pen) is the sign of a terrible decision making organization. This shouldn't be too difficult of a decision at this point, Edwin needs to be the one going to the pen. If we're going to complain about Humber's track record we can certainly do the same thing about Edwin's. I thought it was the amazing track record that EJax has of beein wildly inconsistent taht we wanted him to be in the rotation!?

6 man rotation
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2011 -> 10:22 AM) Phil Humber is not the Sox best starter. He has been the best so far this year, but he is not the best Sox starter. He also won't end the season as their best starter. Assuming that is foolish, as is assuming that it is OK to sacrifice games because Jackson doesn't adjust well to the pen. It's baseball, assuming anything is foolish really.

Build Around Phil Humber
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 27, 2011 -> 09:14 AM) Two things. First, starting pitching is always in demand. If I was the GM for a team with a deep bullpen, I'd easily trade an arm and a B prospect for a pitcher like Jackson. You'd be getting a compensation pick in the offseason to replace the prospect and the SP would most likely have a much larger impact than the RP. That team is also taking on salary, so that'll hurt his value a bit, and he's a starting pitcher who should be losing his job. That doesn't exactly scream value, he'll have some but teams don't necessarily want projects when it comes to competing down the stretch.

Build Around Phil Humber
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 27, 2011 -> 09:05 AM) Honestly, I'd rather trade Jackson then move him to the pen. We have no idea how he'd be in the role, plus you'd be diminishing his value rather quickly. I'd try to move him for a reliever and a prospect. Having said that, I'd keep this six man rotation going for another month or so before I do anything. I'd rather keep him and see what he can give us in the bullpen and then get a draft pick for him. You probably won't get much for him in a trade now anyways.

Campus Recruiting
QUOTE (dasox24 @ May 27, 2011 -> 12:29 AM) I understand that, but yes, with areas that tend to be smaller, it would be wise to target certain "other" schools that excel in those areas. Furthermore, it will bring in different perspectives and ideas if you go to other schools - not everyone will have had the same teachers and been taught the same principles, which will help creativity and bring new ideas to improve the company. Fully agreed!

Campus Recruiting
QUOTE (dasox24 @ May 26, 2011 -> 10:54 PM) Recruit outside of the Big 10 schools (specifically talking about your company, Russ). Not saying they have to go everywhere, but they can be selective with schools outside of the Midwest. For instance, supply chain is supposed to be important for your company, but they don't recruit at Tennessee - one of the perennial Top 5 Supply Chain programs in the country. Poor choice, IMO. Yea, that's something theyve struggled with, they currently focus on 6 schools for most of their recruiting, 4 of them in the B10. Apparently they went to this system because they were spending too much on campus recruiting without getting significant enough results, but targeting other schools only makes sense especially in such areas as IT and SC, which tend to have much smaller amounts of students in each program. I believe they are willing to expand in the future, but they have tend to want an alumni leading the recruiting process for each campus, which makes it harder to expand.
