QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 06:34 PM) Day 1 was great. The day flew by and I even stayed an extra hour to set up my new laptop and sync all my log-ins and stuff. I figured I would have been ready to leave right at 5, but I was feeling good so I just stuck around. Not a bad commute either, considering Atlanta traffic is horrible (not that I have to tell you Chicago folks about horrible traffic) - 29 minutes in the morning; 36 minutes to get home.. Better than me and I live less than 10 miles from work lol.

Indians looking legit...sox dug too deep a hole this time...lets trade
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 03:07 PM) I'm with you here. I still think they suck and their record will eventually show that. They have 5-6 good players in Verlander/Scherzer/Avila/VMart/MCab and that goofball voodoo closer of theirs...but I feel like our roster top to bottom is significantly better than theirs. Been saying it the whole time, I just don't think they have enough pitching to truly contend. That said, a few injuries or slumps from us and the Indians and they could easily build a lead while just playing so-so ball.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 01:15 PM) I'm guilty as hell of saying Lillibridge and Humber blow. I don't think either of them are this good, but they look like legitimate and good major league players, something I didn't believe coming into the year. Definitely guilty of Lillibridge, and I still don't see him as a starter (he's on a hotstreak and you've got to see it out though). Humber I thought would be a Carrasco type pitcher, he's turned into something much better but will probably settle in between a 3-5 starter (so Im guessing #4).

QUOTE (kapzk @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 11:35 AM) Certainly KW won that trade for Jake Peavy, regardless even if Peavy's contributions have been limited If you don't consider his contract, yea we won big time, but that's why he was available for so cheap in terms of talent anyways. We're paying Peavy big money, and well he's pitched what, 25 starts for us?

2011 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 09:56 AM) Inconsistent? There are some words I'd use to describe the White Sox (underachievers), but inconsistent isn't one of them. They're still a team that's been under .500 what, once in the last decade? They're consistently in the race, and occasionally push to the top of it. 2 seasons under .500 in the last 5 seasons.

2011 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 09:46 AM) They haven't? Many of the best players on our team are a product of those methods, Russ. And it's built an inconsistent team (which is what I was going for, could've been more clear). And although you stated that it isn't an excuse to not draft or sign international talent well, at the same time you are saying it's working or hasn't been found to not be working. If you combine the Sox ability to pick up projects and turn them into servicable or better players along with drafting and developing well then you would be looking at the Sox as a gold standard organization. Instead, they tend to shoot themselves in their foot and hold themselves back.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 09:41 AM) Yes, you are failing to see the point here. If the draft and international scouting are such guessing games, why not try building through methods which are characterized by less risk? Because they haven't worked consistently yet.

The Finer Things In Life
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 08:25 AM) Glad you like the El Jimador (best tequla bargain out there I think), but DAMN you make your margaritas tart! 1:1:1 is about as tart as most people ever mix them, and more often it's more like 2 tequila with 1 each of triple sec and lime or even 3:2:1 with lime being the least by volume. I confess that even at 2:1:1 or 3:2:1 I'll often still add a very small amount (1 tsp. or less) of agave syrup to sweeten just a touch. That said, if you have a heroic tolerance for tartnesss as you seem to do, mix those sour bombs up any way you like 'em! Haha well my dad was making them, and I had no problem with the tartness, it actually was quite refreshing after a lot of outdoor work. We're pretty big fresh juice drinkers, so we possibly are more used to it.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 07:49 AM) Yes, it does. Teams looking for pitching to get over that proverbial hump aren't looking at Phil Humber as that difference maker. Well Im sure some teams would be intrigued by what Humber could offer, but they won't be calling because they know that to get HUmber now would take an overpay for what he's currently worth.

If the Chicago White Sox won a game and no one made a thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 06:45 PM) Yeah, I saw that too...and while they started out horrendously at home, I think they're 8 -1 in their last 9 or something there. Theyve got a long road to get back to respectable, but you can't count them out, not that team. Im predicting that they wont really make a strong push to contend, but theyll improve enough to give teams like the Sox fits and possibly really hurt our chances of getting in first at some point.

I love that we turned the tide vs. the A's.

The Finer Things In Life
Had a Belgian beer tasting night with a friend and my dad on Friday, I was in heaven with that stuff. Also, Jim thanks for that recommendation of the El Jimador tequila, I bought a bottle of it and its almost gone already. My dad, friend, and myself did some major damage to it this weekend, fantastic stuff! Enjoying a homemade margarita right now: 6 oz fresh squeezed lime juice 2 oz Triple Sec (didn't have cointreau) 4 oz tequila shake in ice and we're splitting that in two glasses. Yumm!

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 10:27 AM) I've always liked Gammons and never understood all of the hate. Sure, he's a bit of a Red Sox homer since that's where he's from, but he's almost always fair. He also seems to have more contacts in the game than just about anyone. He's a good writer too, and he used to be better on TV before his health problems. He has a tendency to struggle to speak his thoughts and will stumble more than he used to. Too bad, because he does know a lot of people in the game and can be a great guy to learn from.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 10:25 AM) Cats are seriously problem solvers. They can figure s*** out. Yes, dogs can be trained to do something, but cats are clever. They are on the next level. They f*** wiht you. I love it. I know plenty of dogs the same way too though. A friend of mine has a dog that will want her seat on the couch so the dog will go to the door and bark as if someone is there so my friend will get up and check, and when she goes back to the couch the dog will be in her seat. Both dogs and cats can be very clever, and both can be dumb as hell.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 08:47 AM) She does have a point, but what a beotch. You should respond "Thanks so much, that will surely save ME untold embarassment in the future." Haha, exactly what my manager said when he saw it (he was looking at some stuff on my laptop when the email came in). I decided to take the high road on this one though.

Catch All Anything Thread
So I misspelled "must" as "msut" in a pretty long email to someone in a different department that's working on a project with me. This was her reply to a lenghty email: Felt like a cheapshot a bit, especially considering there is a grammer mistake in her email. Oh well, I got a good laugh out of it, and she was correct in that I needed to turn that auto spell check on.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 07:56 AM) What gorgeous copper stills at Jameson. My wife and I went when we went on our drunken Irish pilgrimage when we first started dating 20 years ago. They really were, and huge! Jeez, a small family could live in those things comfortably!

If Juan Pierre is signed tmrw to an extension, what would you do?
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 12:49 PM) It was not a bad play. Apparently you and I watched two different plays and came to different conclussions. Pierre was all out and it looked like Morel was too. It landed in a "bad" spot and our players darn near collided giving it their all to catch the ball. Yes, we should have recovered from the missed catch, but Santos said he just didn't have it last night. There's no reason for Morel to have to turn around and chase a ball over his shoulder and get farther than Pierre had to go when all Pierre had to do was run in. That ball was in mid left field, and it hung for a long time.

Official 2011 MLB Draft - Day 3
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 12:10 PM) And that is a short-sighted way for an organization to operate because truth be told, spending more on drafts, actually better enables you to manage your major league payroll and thus save you money down the road. It is my biggest problem with the organization under Kenny. I actually like our scouts and baseball people and I think we will see in a couple years that Buddy has done a good job overhauling player development (plus as I've mentioned many times, I think we do a tremendous jobs with pitchers in our organization already). The problem is, our budget, just doesn't compare to other teams budgets. I team with a $120M payroll should spend on average of $1-$3M bucks in bonuses to a copule non-draftable guys (e.g., the international FA's on a yearly basis) as a way to supplement for the lack of top round picks. They should also budget some additional money to take a couple over-slot guys, again, as a way to supplement not having top 10 to 15 picks year in year out. Thank you!

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 03:11 PM) Which is one thing the US won out in over Europe, especially England. Indian food smells even worse when you are drunk, ugh. I can't believe how much they love that s***. Mexican >>>>>>>>>>> Indian I love Indian food!! Really, it can be fantastic if you go to the right place. But Mexican is king, especially when you cant have it for 5 months, you realize just how spoiled you are living in a city like Chicago with amazing Mexican.
