QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 06:36 PM) It's Always Sunny is airing their Christmas special tonight. This is the DVD they released last December. It's pretty decent. The kid that plays Mac when he's little is spot on. Is that a man in that couch!?
  2. Great to hear that it went terrific, but really it's good booze so how couldnt it
  3. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 10:48 PM) I don't give a damn what Putz signed for this offseason. Im guessing you want another Putz like reliever coming in, but the problem is that there really isn't anyobdy on the market like that besides maybe Jenks, and he isn't coming back here. Even then, Jenks will probably get a 2 or 3 yr deal.
  4. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 11:31 PM) I don't want to sign non-closer free agent relievers for more than a year. You won't get anyone worth a damn than.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 06:55 PM) It was a dumb idea in the first place. 4 feet of snow in a stadium that has been shut down for weeks. Move it to Chicago morons. That would be unfair!!!1!!1!!!111! Let's have the game even farther from our fans!!11!!11!!
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 05:04 PM) Why not kick the tires on a couple low risk high reward guys like Bonderman/Escobar/Duchscherer/Fuentes and see what happens? I would only give Bonderman less than a million at this point, his velocity has disappeared.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 04:55 PM) $1.5 mill If you say his last name and then his first name, it sounds like "hard and rich" Or you can go for the easy Richard=Dick, thus Dick Harden. Mustve been tough in middle school for him.
  8. I would love 25 George Brett's on the Sox

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 04:36 PM) GPA's (and grades in general) are the dumbest way to categorize people. Grades are f***ing dumb. If I get A's on all my exams but don't do stupid unnecessary homework and worksheets and other bulls*** projects and I get a C, it doesn't mean I'm an average student. Such a ridiculously huge flaw. Anywho, completed all 3 of my film reviews. Got my exam in an hour and a half and I'm off to get drunk. I agree that grades are terrible misrepresentation of who someone is, but in that example an employer would say "Why would I hire someone who slacks off in half of their job assignments?" I would say that most classes don't test students enough on real world application of the knowledge they learn, it's one thing for a student to be able to memorize 400 pages of material for a one week period to do well on all their tests, it's another thing to ask those students now employees to apply that knowledge to the work they are doing. It is also incredibly important to note that GPA does not reflect how hard, how efficiently, etc a student works.
  10. For the White Sox sake, I hope Santana never fully heals and we don't have two of the best catchers in the league playing vs. us all season.

QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 04:19 PM) Well I don't believe in standardized testing to get into colleges, but they do it anyway. A guy with an ACT of 20 and a 3.25 should be able to get into NIU, ISU, UIC and most other schools in Illinois with the exception of the most prestigious (University of Chicago, then Northwestern, then UIllinois) schools. How can you prove to managers that you are competent? Lastly, a 3.5 from a public university might hold ground over a 3.51+ at a private university. At least that is how I feel, and this is coming from someone who attended both types of universities to complete his undergraduate degree. Then I wonder why my dad harps on my GPA even though it is about a 3.3 and I'm smart enough to work in an organization. I just have to be willing to be indoctrinated to a corporate lifestyle, which may be a problem. In terms of proving to managers, it really is having a connection who can vouch for you and provide that link to them. I know one guy who went into I-Banking and had a 3.3, not bad at all but it's I-Banking and they want like a a 3.7 atleast. He had a connection, called the managers and showed him his skills on financial reporting software and how he had more skills than others applying. They realized his GPA wasn't reflective of the type of worker he could be so they took him on. In terms of public vs. private, it all depends on which school you went to and what type of program you were in. Either type may specialize in an area and be preferred that way, or a company may be looking for specifics like the student is well rounded and knows the public school offers 3X as many student groups. It all depends really on the student and the employer and waht they have to offer and what they are looking for. I will say that the image of being a tougher school will count a tad when looking at GPA, as in a student's GPA from Northwestern will be looked upon easier than a student from a community college or a lower tier state college. Also, it will depend on what degree you received too in how they look at GPA, engineers and business students (especially engineers) tend to get a bit more of a lax on GPA, while a LAS degree may have more strict GPA requirements.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 04:45 PM) Employers don't too often ask about GPA. It's used as a screen before interviews, but after that they tend not to care. FWIW, most companies have a 3.0 cutoff, but others have stricter standards and are at 3.3 or even 3.5. There are ways to get around that but it is very difficult. For example, Deloitte Consulting has a 3.3 cutoff (atleast at my University), but to even get a decent chance of getting a job with them you'll have to be above a 3.5, unless you have connections and can prove to managers that you are very competent and your grades are not a reflection of how smart you are (which I don't believe in anyways).
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 03:12 PM) It's "Patrick Bateman" though not captured from the film. It's from some promo shot. Ahh I see, thought I recognized that blood spattered face
  14. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 03:55 PM) Same reason we wanted Floyd. Where is your avatar from? American Psycho?

Milksteak boiled over hard, with a side of jelly beans, raw of course.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 01:31 PM) This is the price we are paying for signing PK instead of a lesser option such as Lee. Unless KW can move some salary, we're not going to be signing any $4 million relievers. This, all in meant an increase in payroll, but doesn't mean KW can sign anything he wants. He was probably restricted at 115-120MM for the full season, and he took advantage of that but JR wanted his guy back so now he's stuck waiting for bargains for the bullpen. Then again, these 3 yr deals will come back to haunt most of these teams.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 02:01 PM) Who is that? The guy who socked your avatar in the face.
  18. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 01:36 AM) Teahen instantly becomes the Yankee's like 29th man. He's untradeable. They can absorb his contract and would be a decent bench option for them.
  19. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 02:27 AM) Wait. So slightly above average OF's are as valuable as established 3rd starters? I don't mean to be an ass, but in what baseball universe is this true? Again, I'm still waiting for someone to tell me who starts in Floyd's sport and gives HALF the value that Floyd is worth. If you got the Yanks to take on Teahen's contract you could free up enough to go after someone like Pavano (potentially).

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 13, 2010 -> 11:12 PM) just wondering, how many of yall go to school at Champaign I know currently chw42, buehrle>wood, and myself go there. Not sure on other current students.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 13, 2010 -> 05:33 PM) Haters So happy you put that as your avatar, it was definitely worthy haha.
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 13, 2010 -> 06:42 PM) Really, trades and signings being "fluid" isn't an excuse to carpet-bomb with whatever speculation you can think of and state it as fact. I would have thought the whole Lebron fiasco this summer would have taught everyone the problem with twitter "reporting" That's the thing, reporters need to address and adapt to this whole new media source that Twitter brings. It's a place where jokes (when appropriate) are better suited than an article, but at the same time it still represents the company that the writer works for and should be treated as such. Reporters should not get a free pass for stating rumors as facts just because it is the most recent rumor they've heard. I know they only have what, 140 characters, but that doesn't mean they can get away with poor reporting. If anything, link the twitter to an article for more details or something.

Got two more left, 7pms on Tuesday and Wednesday. Should be really easy on Wednesday, tomorrow's won't be bad as long as I study, but you know.... Cannot wait to be done, once I am I get to relax, turn 21, celebrate Christmas wit hthe family, and leave to go study abroad.
  24. I do think this board gets on Cowley a bit more than he deserves, but his style of reporting is not professional way too often, but it attracts readers and gets his and the Sun-Times name out there which is what they need to sell papers. It's not all on him, but his style of reporting is what works in today's economic climate when it comes to the media. If people agree with him or not, he's getting attention, and that's his job. That said, I think it's sad that much of the media has come to this as the only viable solution to keep their jobs. I expect more professionalism than most reporters and editors give. Some of the crap that gets put out there is for attention grabbing, and gets let through editors because they can fall back on the "deal fell through" safety net. It's one thing to use that once in a while, but when it happens to all of your claims than something is going on. Especially as an insider, a reporter should know not to be so definitive in statements knowing that it can change within an hour. An experienced and professional reporter should adjust their reports to this.
  25. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Dec 13, 2010 -> 06:01 PM) What's the big deal about Tashard Choice getting Vick's autograph after the game? I mean, I wouldn't do it, but I don't get the big deal over autographs in general - it's a guy's signature. To me, a picture would be way cooler than an autograph with someone. Regardless, Choice grew up in ATL and Vick was a "football superhero" to those kids. If he wants to do it, so what? It's not like he tried less in the game b/c he asked for an autograph after. Sometimes I think people care too much. DBAH0, are you upset about this (being the resident Cowboys fan)? If the guy hustled during the game than he completed his job, outside of the game he can ask for anybody's autograph. You would hope he would do it in a bit less visible of a place, but if Vick was really a hero to him than if anything it's a great story, to meet your hero on the football field, play hearts out against him, than talk to him after the game.
