QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 12:56 PM) Warsaw is more modernized, if you really want the history and old-world Poland, Krakow it should be I've never been I have just read numerous places Yea we were thinking of Krakow over Warsaw too, I would rather go someplace more historic than modern since Im living in one of the most modern cities anyways (and the historical aspect intrigues me more).

Europe
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 01:25 PM) Skip Brussels. Just go to Bruges if you're dead set on visiting Belgium. I'd recommend Munich, Geneva or Zurich if you're in the area. Casablanca is going to be a pain to get to. Might be easier just going to Tangier if you want to go to Morocco. Gibraltar and Granada (the Al Hambra is there) are close by if you go that route. I'd also recommend this website Yea I just spend the last weekend in Brussels and Bruges, Bruges was wayyyy better so Im looking at being there and maybe a place like Gent. Yea, my friend really wants to go to Morocco to say he was in Africa, but Ive heard it just isnt that great and I was worried about the hassle too. Thanks for the heads up on the site!

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 05:09 PM) Would you describe it as a fairytale town? Maybe if I grew up on a farm, and was retarded. Such great lines in that movie, but really the city was fantastic.

Watched In Bruges since I was there for a night, really liked the movie, but the city gets a bad rep in it, and is really a great place to visit, even for the young.

The Finer Things In Life
Just got back from a weekend trip to Belgium, all I can say is WOW. Truly a fantastic beer country, especially in Bruges. My favorite that I had was one called Bons Voeux, exceptional taste, smooth, and 9.5% to boot. Bruges Zot is also very good.

JR says payroll is at 125 million
As a college student I just cant afford to go to many games, along with the fact I work over 40 hours a week in the summer and U.S. Cellular Field isn't really an easy place to get to from where I live/work, so that makes it tough. I go when I can, but I always watch the games on TV.

Repeating throwing motion
QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 13, 2011 -> 10:46 PM) I didn't read all the way through since much of it is way over my head. But why measure in innings? That seems so imprecise, why not have a pitch count? I didn't read the article but maybe it has to do with the breaks in between innings.

Verizon announces iPhone
QUOTE (Sox72 @ Jan 12, 2011 -> 03:02 PM) So, I'm about to upgrade from an old blackberry on Verizon. I don't know if I should go the Android, Windows, iPhone, newer Blackberry route. Any suggestions? Should I buy one now or is anything coming out I should wait for? Each phone has pros and cons, you have to figure which one fits your needs the best. Do you use it primarily for email? Entertainment? Do you like to mess with your phone a lot or keep it simple? etc....

Realistic Adam Dunn expectations
QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Jan 12, 2011 -> 04:01 PM) Except that he'smaking more money than almost every player that created more runs than he did and they actually play a DEFENSIVE position! They play the whole game and help win games on defense and some can actually run and help their teams on the bases. They can bunt, hit and run etc. Way way overpaid for Dunn. But, I guess that's why Kenny got him. Didn't see other teams tripping over themselves to give him that money. It's baseball, many players like Kelly Johnson will pop up as bargains every year, and then fall back into mediocrity. Luckily for the Sox and Dunn, the DH doesn't have to play defense, yet is a position needed to be filled. Kotsay was a decent defender but when he DH'ed he had no impact whatsoever from his defensive abilities. Yes, Dunn hits a lot of HRs (don't know how that is really abad thing) and won't get a lot of singles, and will strike out quite a bit, but he produces quite a bit and will be one of the best, if not the best, at the DH position and that warrants a lot of value. And it's baseball, to sign a FA you'll have to pay for that value.

Realistic Adam Dunn expectations
QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Jan 12, 2011 -> 03:34 PM) Is he gonna knock in 35 homers a year for the last 10 years for the Sox this year? What does that have to do with anything? The point is the guy is NOT a big run producer. He's only a DH and there are clearly better hitters out there for less money - Jim Thome for one. Is there any doubt at all that the White Sox would win more games this year with Vlad in the DH spot than Dunn? Vlad is a professional HOF hitter. There will be no such thing as situational hitting with Dunn. I would like to know how many runs he drove in last year when the ball didn't leave the ballpark? I think that many Sox fans are going to be dissapointed after seeing how little Dunn really contributes to the team after watching him everyday. Wait, you say that Dunn isn't good becaue he can only DH and strikes out a ton, and then you say Thome is better!?! I should be surprised by fans like this but really Im not, they jump on a bandwagon focused on hating a player because although they are good their team doesn't go anywhere. That's not the player's fault, it's the team's fault. Dunn is one of the most consistent power hitters in the game. He won't hit .300, but the Sox don't need him to. He'll put up a .900ish OPS and help out the Sox aplenty.

Congrats Sox Management
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 04:04 PM) If my memory serves me correctly Ozzie likes to have 2 backup IFs. I don't count Teahen as he only backs up 3B/1B. So who backs up Rios? Pierre, and have Teahen play left? That sounds dreadful with Quentin in RF too.

Congrats Sox Management
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 04:51 PM) Lillibridge has the advantage of also being an infielder. The Sox already have Vizquel and Teahen to play infield.

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 12:19 AM) Yeah, like sending one of your most important relievers to the minors. Lol, Sa;e in the bullpen may only be worth 1 or 2 wins this season, we should be able to find a replacement for that which wont kill our chances at all. On the other hand, if you do ruin his progress towards being a 200 inning pitcher youre talking about losing 4-5 wins the next 5 years.

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
Sale needs to be a starter this year and in the future because we can't just look at one year at a time. Yes, we are an improved team from last year, but that doesn't make us a favorite or an auto-clinch for the division much less the WS. The Sox need to put themselves in the very best situation to succeed year in and year out, that means maximizing the few high end prospects they have in value, meaning getting Sale ready to be a 200 inning pitcher next year. I would much rather the Sox have a plan to succeed at a top level over 4-5 years than just one big chance for one year, since it's baseball and so much can happen to derail your team.
