Thinking about getting a puppy (or two)
QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 1, 2011 -> 09:33 AM) Just ran into her as I was walking him this morning when her cab pulled up and dropped her off from work...she ran to us and grabbed him and kept saying "you need a mommy too, you need a mommy too!" You lucky, lucky man.

Doesn't take much to look impressive when pitching next to Lucas Harrel.

QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Mar 1, 2011 -> 10:55 AM) The Big Ten will be trash next season. It will be Ohio State, Wisconsin and Michigan that might be good...other than that I don't see much. Purdue loses Moore and Johnson...Minnesota will lose Tubby...Indiana probably needs another year to become good. MSU obviously has good recruits and a great coach but it will be hard to replace Lucas. Illinois is likely to be very bad...no point guard at all and multiple players trying to look good for NBA scouts... You just have it out for Illinois dont you. The Illini will be very hard to predict, and they could be bad, but at the same time they will still have a ton of talent and if guys do make the sophomore to junior jump then they should be at least decent and with some production from the rooks they could be good.

2011 AL Central Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 28, 2011 -> 03:29 PM) And when he starts crowding the plate and crushing pitchers because he never gets brushed back anymore, they should just bend over and take it. If he starts asking for it he can only expect it. The point is, it would hurt the Sox big time if they were the team that ordered the pitch that hit Morneau in the head and ended his career. You're talking major media drama distracting the team not to mention killing the team image. No thanks, go dominate them on the scoreboard to prove your rivalry dominance.

Brent Morel = The Mole?
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 28, 2011 -> 06:09 PM) Oh come on! I'm not trying to be mean, but "Hot Fire" is the worst nickname I've ever heard. And I mean the worst.

Dunn to hit third in White Sox spring opener
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 28, 2011 -> 01:06 PM) Yeah, well, that's never going to happen so we'll just have to be satisfied with a great glove a short with a .750 OPS. Life could be worse. Just a dreamer here.

If only Alexei could get that OBP up he would be a great 2/5 hitter.

Investing Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 28, 2011 -> 09:30 AM) Unless you have a lot of time to trade and track actively, I'd suggest staying away from single names, and use more ETF's. You can target all manner of industries, sectors, div vs non-div, big and small div, big and small cap, etc., spread your risk more effectively, and not have to worry as much about constantly tracking company news. Just my .02. I was thinking of doing a Vanguard ETF, but this is unfamiliar ground for me so I was looking for advice on it. I started investing last summer and that's why I have the BP and VZ stocks (I had a few others that I made profits on and sold), and have done pretty well with them, but Im not looking to continue trying to find more stocks like that and would prefer going into and ETF/mutual fund. And Im only 21 so these investments would most definitely be long term.

Anybody have advice for someone who is looking for growth stocks or funds? Im looking to invest long term about $8000 in the next month or so and want to start looking into possibilities. I currently have a bit under $1000 combined in BP and VZ stock.

Bobby Jenks to the Red Sox
QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Feb 27, 2011 -> 03:05 PM) Honest question, is there any other team in baseball that has a publicly bad separation from one of its players as often as the sox? It seems like every season there's one with us. The Cubs seem to be a team that has some problems with players after they leave, but like the Sox it's more in the personalities of the players than anything. Im not sure on anything specific, but almost every case I have seen or remember is more of a problem with the player than the organization, of course both sides probably had something to do with the matter but the player's character is usually the driving force.

Bobby Jenks to the Red Sox
To me, one of the worst things that Ozzie said was that his player's didnt even miss Jenks or his troubles, and I'm sure that he probably had at least a few friends on the team or teammates who cared for him and this will only prompt reporters to be asking around trying to fuel some internal feuds between Ozzie and his players. I just want the players focused on getting ready for the season and not to be worried that the drama is starting already. Ozzie has done a fairly good job in the past with keeping the media on him and not his players and hopefully he can continue this and allow the players to focus on preparing for some baseball and bonding as a team.

2011 MLB Catch-All Thread
I dont know if it was posted anywhere but Pods signed with the Blue Jays to a minor league deal worth $1 mill if he makes the team, Im sure this was posted but it's just shocking to me how bad his agent is. After the screw up over getting Pods a good contract last offseason Pods declines a $2 mill guaranteed option from the Dodgers to end up with this deal.

An upset over Purdue would be so nice to have, but I extremely doubt it will happen. The Illini need to atleast beat Indiana and one game (if not 2) in the B10 tourney to get in IMO.

Bobby has to distract from the fact that rookies are hitting bombs off of him, even though his arm is "as healthy as ever."

Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 26, 2011 -> 05:40 PM) I wasn't impressed with the Netflix streaming, there were zero new releases. I am thinking about going with the Roku and Amazon prime. The one downfall of Netflix is that you have to wait for the show to be on DVD to have access to it, Prime beats it in that factor big time.

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Feb 26, 2011 -> 01:15 PM) And yesterday. There were like 7 posts yesterday. Yankees/Phillies today if you need a quick fix. Im in the Netherlands through April, so not much in a way of baseball fixes, so when Soxtalk slows down, especially on the weekends, it hurts.

Bobby Jenks to the Red Sox
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Feb 26, 2011 -> 05:30 PM) Bobby isn't the same pitcher. We just couldn't rely on him anymore. The organization made the right choice to move on. Thorton has truly earned the right to be our every day closer. How come when a player leaves after having success here, they feel the need to rip management? Maggs, Frank and now Bobby. I look at guys like Rowand, Thome and Ventura and realize how classy they were after they left. It makes me appreciate the quality of a person as a player a lot more. Thome didn't say anything directly but he hinted at something being wrong in the Sox organization in some of his quotes, IMO. When he kept saying the Twins "know how to do things," to me he's saying that the Sox have issues either in the coaching staff, management, or both.

I still can't believe that Ozzie isn't telling Oney to STFU, and instead seemed to almost be encouraging him to speak in the media.
