Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 06:20 PM) Oh man. I hope Lee is healthy, and we actually have a shot at him. And he only wants a 1yr deal. And it isn't more than $7m. Otherwise, Viciedo may challenge Reynolds for the K Krown. You do realize how far off you are in this claim, dont you?

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 06:18 PM) He's on the Score right now basically saying that half an hour ago KW was ready to announce the signing then something went horribly wrong and it's quite possibly 100% over, as in KW has already said goodbye. He says the sticking point is likely that Konerko wants that $15M a year to be a higher paid player than Dunn, KW expected this number to come down but it did not. This is probably for the best: $15M a year is a joke, I have a huge problem with paying a guy based on what he's done and not what he's going to do. There's no way in hell Konerko is a $15M a year deal over the next 3 seasons. Cowley says D Lee's name is picking up steam and I say hell yeah. I would LOVE DLee, he makes too much sense. I expect an .850 OPS, with awesome defense out of him. He'll stay for a year, we can assess whether Dayan is ready defensively (I think he'll have a big year offensively and build his value in AAA), and go from there. He possibly could net us a draft pick too next year. Combine this with the draft picks from Konerko and what he most likely will give you in production and all sides really favor Dlee.

Winter Meeting Buzz
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 06:15 PM) You'd be crazy to value Fielder and Gonzalez the same in a trade. First of all, one of them is a solid defender, the other is already best as a DH. Secondly, Gonzalez is on tap to make $6.5 million this season, while Fielder is looking at an arbitration raise from his $11 million deal last year. I wouldn't give up Beckham straight up for Fielder. I wouldn't have given him up for Gonzalez either, but I'd be less angry about that one. Agreed, I would want Fielder plus a bullpen piece or a decent prospect to offset the additional cash/lesser defense. Not sure if BrewCrew would even consider that though, they have Weeks still, and the fanbase would probably be upset that it wasn't Fielder straight up.

Winter Meeting Buzz
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 05:08 PM) Yeah now that you mention it, that would be tough. Even if you package up some 2-3 of Escobar, Mitchell, Reed/Petricka (if they are even eligible), Mitchell, etc., maybe with one of the lower level guys... that probably still wouldn't do it, and the already thin system would be thoroughly gutted. But, if the Sox called, they must have had something in mind. I almost wonder if they were thinking someone on the major league roster, like Quentin. Beckham possibly, it was reported that he was offered along with other prospects for AGon, but with the state of reporting the way it is right now I doubt that actually occurred.

Winter Meeting Buzz
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 05:46 PM) Maybe we'll just try and trade for Fielder if we can't get Paulie. Ozzie would never go for that L/L at his 3/4 spots.

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
My guess is that the Dbacks offered 3/30, and Konerko wants to stay down there near his family. Sox will probably offer 3/35, and he'll be hesitant because of family. KW gets tired of waiting, signs DLee at 1/6.5 with incentives.

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) Dunn isn't a 1B though. They're the Orioles, who knows. One wouldn't think they'd want to offer a bunch of money to him but one wouldn't have figured the Tigers to throw mountains of cash at IRoid and the Venezuelan Piece of s*** several years ago either, and that kind of worked out for them... for a while. Unless the Orioles are thinking they are in the Central division, I don't see them spending money unless it's on a player they really like. Konerko is probably a guy they like, but not at his age. They'll lowball him and hope he takes it.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 02:40 AM) It's still weird hearing about him going opposite field regularly. Usually, that implies a good plate approach. He's patient, but in my mind Quentin is basically a mistake hitter. In 2008, he seemed to hit it everywhere, same with Beckham in 2009. I'm not saying Walker is preaching it, but he isn't helping these guys avoid getting into that mentality.

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
The state of reporting is terrible. No, the White Sox do not lose a pick for signing Konerko. They do lose the opportunity to get an additional to picks though (if he were to sign with another team).

Dbacks have reached a deal with Putz
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 06:49 PM) Hopefully it's a $5 foot long. Booooooooo!

Official 2010-11 NFL Thread
A friend of mine who is a Lions fan wont stop complaining about either game vs. the Bears. Stop complaining about the refs and start complaining about how your team can't hold a lead.

i am drunk
Got unexpectedly s***ty tonight, had a friend from campus last year come visit us now, he brought some real good Christmas brews, then had 3 beers and a shot at a bar, then proceeded to have a 6 pack of 312 at a restaurant to end the night. I love wheat beer. Also, chicks who are crazy crack me up. This guy we were hangin with yelled out "Save me!", told this chick to leave him alone, and ignored her for a good 1.5 hrs, and she still wanted to dance with him. Absolutely insane.

Lee or Konerko?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 10:49 PM) It is also something that has been done on a regular basis by JR and the ownership group. Who have the Sox given large contracts to even though there were comparable players on the FA market for substantially less, just because of Sox loyalty? I wouldn't be surprised if it has happened but I'm curious which previous situation is really anything like this one.

Lee or Konerko?
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) I agree here but I don't think a 2 year deal will kill the Sox and I believe Reinsdorf may be willing to pick up the difference if it's for PK. He seems to be the kind of guy that will spend if it means keeping around a loyal, and still productive employee. It may not kill the Sox, but it's not a smart business or baseball decision. An extra $25 million in guaranteed money to a 35 yr old, high injury risk player is just a bad move all around (I would be saying this with or without Dunn). Basically, both players will give you equivalent amount of worth, especially after defense is taken into account, plus you get a draft pick from Konerko signing elsewhere, plus you don't have the risk of giving a 35 yr old player that kind of money, plus DLee is a standup individual and a good teammate from many accounts.

A.J. not close to signing with Blue Jays
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 08:59 PM) I don't want to overpay AJ. But I sure as hell don't want Castro as our primary catcher. You should know how flawed a stat RBI can be. And AJ's defense wasn't a problem last year. Ramon Castro is not an everyday catcher.

Lee or Konerko?
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 08:46 PM) You really think it would be a ridiculous business decision if Kenny came up to Jerry and said we can sign Derek Lee or if you are willing to give me 5 or 6 extra million we can have Konerko, and JR decided to pay the extra for Konerko who has been a model employee for the last ten years? If you're talking 1 yr contracts, than your difference is right. But no, you're talking about 35 yr old, injury susceptible players with a difference of probably $25 million or more in guaranteed money. So yes, I do find it ridiculous considering what could be done with that money. Konerko has been great for this organization, but if letting him sign elsewhere means a much greater chance at getting back to the WS, I'm all for it. No player to me is above the team.

A.J. not close to signing with Blue Jays
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) Give me a break, knight. Prorated to equal ABs? AJ > Castro The question is, at what cost? Especially if you can platoon Castro.

Lee or Konerko?
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 09:26 PM) Whats to say he doesn't say I'll give you a $115 million payroll but only for Konerko. I think that is more likely. JR loves Paulie. Well that's a ridiculous business decision and JR should know that.
-
Lee or Konerko?
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 08:23 PM) Screw DLee, I don't pay the players directly so give me Paulie. If they signed Lee over Paulie to save some bucks I'd be upset. Pay the Man. You'd be upset, but the team would be worse considering the consequences of "paying the man". I'll take you being upset.

Lee or Konerko?
Give me Lee for 1 yr/7mill deal, than use the savings with Putz and other bullpen guys. Lee just makes so much sense, he's one of the top defenders at 1b, will come at a decent price, and will probably match or be right around what Konerko will give you without the hefty contract. Even if JR told KW to go for it, and gave him a $115 mill payroll, signing Dunn and Konerko still leaves too much left to be done with the remaining cash. Lee is a much better investment.

White Sox Sign Dunn
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 06:47 PM) I love Paulie, but I second that. You probably save $8 million taking Lee instead of Paulie + you get two draft picks. That money can go to Putz + another RP and even AJ. I wouldn't be surprised if Lee is better than Paulie next year, too. This.

Scientists find arsenic-based life
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 02:07 PM) That's the most interesting pronunciation of "pH" I've ever heard. That lady was annoying to listen to. Still interesting material for a person who couldnt understand chemistry or biology for his life.
