QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 02:55 PM) Watch that if you're interested in what's possible with electric cars. Here's the problem I have with Tesla. Mercedes is just throwing s*** against the wall and seeing what sticks and coming up with stuff like torque vectoring and these interchangable chassis/engine output settings that completely change the identity of the car. Press a button and your comfortable, efficient highway cruiser can gain AWD and be great in the snow. Its traction control on steroids, it starts defeating the purpose of brakes altogether (and the most inefficient thing you can do in a car is brake)... brilliant. It start creating an identity around the electric car that instead of trying to be the ICE it does something wildly different that you average driver will probably find better. Tesla isn't doing that. They are making ICE cars and just swapping out the drivetrain components, accepting all the faults of electric cars with only one or two of the real benefits (no gas, great torque). The Model S, when you compare it with cars in its pricerange, just gets smothered. Would you honestly have a Model S instead of an M5? Or F-Type V8S? Or maybe the greatest GT car ever (DB9)? Because that's what its competing against directly. It not trying to be that different at all... Nice, I'm all for other companies bringing competition into the electric car market. That said, the Tesla S is a beautiful car. And really? The DB9 is msrp'd at $183,700, only double the Tesla S P85 numbers I've seen.

Anybody know of "C" leagues (or not super competitive leagues) for the fall in the north/northwest suburbs?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 10:12 AM) I should have pulled the trigger on the lease deal they had like 6-8 months ago. It was $279/month with no money down. There's one dealer in Middleton WI that still has that deal through 8/31/13. I might have to make a road trip. What's Wisconsin's laws around taxes for leases? Better than Illinois'?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 04:04 PM) Tesla has done fantastic stuff with the S. Consumer Reports called it one of the best cars they had driven, in any class, ever. Sales are sky-rocketing despite a high price tag. Early quality measures from the usual evaluating firms are positive, though it is still very early to say for sure. And they used a very smart business plan... they knew early adopters were the ones with cash, so they went highest end first (their sports car), in small numbers... then the less expensive but still pricey sedan, at much larger but still relatively small numbers... their next project in the pipe is an SUV slightly cheaper... then they want to do a cheaper-still sedan at more like 40-50k. This allows them to go into economies of scale as they make their way into lower price points. That one infamous newpaper article about the Tesla S, trying to get from one super-charging station to another and not making it... turns out the driver didn't follow the instructions. The author even posted a partial retraction of the original article. And Tesla is smart enough to realize the fears are in part about reliability (new car, new brand), and about the battery (staying power over the years), so they are putting long warranties on the cars. I may seriously consider getting one in the next few years. I am all about getting one in 4-5 years, I'm hoping that either the S comes down in price as the tech comes cheaper, or they have a new model that as I mentioned earlier is made for "everyone's budget". I thought the X was going to be more expensive? I haven't seen any numbers other than the reservation price which is higher than the S' but that may just be because it hasn't released yet.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 03:20 PM) There's never going to be a single "Great for everyone" car. That's why there are lots of types of cars. Right now the Leaf is a great electric car for people who use small cars. The Volt is a solid car for people who want the hybrid electric + gasoline car. It's a solid car but it does have some disadvantages, but that's the case for lots of cars. Meant for a car that "everyone" can afford, as in starting under $30k. Musk has announced that after Model X is released that's what they are going to focus on. And Rock, I would absolutely love a Tesla S, those cars are freakin' awesome.

I'm hoping that Tesla can come together with a truly great electric-for everyone car.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 02:19 PM) Its going to be a battle to the death for Bragg. We think we want him and Kennard with Mickey Mitchell right behind as our 2015 class. Mitchell is the only one I would say is an OSU lean. Bragg has been really positive about both OSU and Illinois. I'm hoping we can steal him from you guys, a little payback for taking KBD =)

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 02:04 PM) Yeah, right now it's 1 open scholly. If Starks gets his waiver to play this year, we'll have 2. 2015 we have a lot more open. Yup, it's the reason why Groce is able to swing for the fences with Black/Cliff and maybe a guy like Snider now (though doesnt seem good early on for Illinois). Groce really needs a marquee guy or two in 2015 (Matthews, Bragg, or Brunson) with some good to great guys like DJ Williams and Aaron Jordan.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 01:13 PM) Yeah it's a good sign. I just refuse to buy the hype of self-appointed internet experts who simply follow other self-appointed internet experts for their news. That's more than fair. We'll see what happens when Black visits in August/Sept.

I think a lot of people were banking on UF to get a commit out of him during his visit but now that he left there without one they started getting a feeling that UI is the leader.

Illinois apparently making big strides with Leron Black. A lot of national and local reporters are saying Black is really high on Illinois and expect them to land him.

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 03:55 PM) It's amazing that right when we lose Buehrle to FA, Quintana steps in and basically clones himself (from the blood of his penis, obviously) as the second coming of Mark. I think Q is a piece to build around as well. Santana, I'm not sold on quite yet, but promising. Sale, I would move. I would only move Sale for 2 young, MLB all-stars (or close to that level) + 'spects. He's a 24 year old Ace with a good contract and hasn't been injured yet. He's already been worth 5 WAR this year, that's crazy for a 24 yr old.

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 03:09 PM) I think it will be a transitional year, but I don't think it's to the point where they will want to give Andy Wilkins a shot at significant playing time at 1B. I think he could certainly get a call up and play quite a bit, but as a starter? I don't think that's ever going to happen. I think they are talking about moving Viciedo to 1B to get guys like Garcia, Jacobs, Thompson, and any other young outfielders they have up and playing. I suspect the Sox will go after cheap veterans to fill holes that don't have top prospects to fill them. They will then monitor the fringe guys like Wilkins and hope to get some value for the value guys (such as what the Cubs did with Feldman).

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 04:46 PM) Ok master of the universe. I don't want to teach anyone a lesson, and I don't want to Dan Bernstein this into a discussion about concussions and meatheads. Earl Bennett was drafted in 2008, red shirted his rookie year, and has been unable to stay on the field for one season. Once he comes back from the concussion, something else will knock him out. He's a turd who must be flushed along with your holier than thou posting style. :-P That's a turd that just won't flush.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 01:46 PM) I rent alot of cars and Ive come away impressed lately with the hyundai's ive driven. Alot of features and a strong engine. When I was looking, I test drove the Elantra, Sonata, and Sonata Turbo. The Elantra didn't have enough hp for me, the Sonata was decent for a commuter car and the Sonata Turbo was definitely a fun car to drive.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 10:26 PM) To look at Rienzo's overall ERA doesn't tell the whole picture. His month-by-month makes it seem like he figured something out. April: 7.71. May: 5.74. June: 2.30. July: 1.23. So is he just on a hot streak or is he legit? It's just a concern I have, and really placing him right next to Snodgress is fair imo. I have high hopes that both will fit in our rotation the next few years.

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 10:00 PM) Why do you like Snodgress more than Rienzo? Age, Rienzo is obviously enjoying some nice MLB success which is helping his cause a lot but he also had a 4.07 era at AAA and his whip there was a lot higher than it had been the previous few seasons. I think they are really close to each other in terms of prospect status though, which is middle of the rotation type starter and showing success at AA+.

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 10:01 PM) Nah can't see what's not there . I just made a statement of fact. I know Boston and Detroit are in positions to use who they got and we are not. Sometimes I just like to provoke conversation just by making a statement and seeing how others react to it. Everything I said was a fact. I never said Garcia should be with the Sox . Soooo you were going for that reaction, aka trolling for it.
