Orioles Covet Sale
I'm open to trading Sale, but the price would be so goddamn much no decent GM would ever accept it. Sale is an ace, with a good contract as well now. Even if you take the top 5 prospects from another org, you'd be playing the odds that maybe 1 of them turns into an all-star. If I'm trading Sale, I want to play the odds that 2 of them turn into perennial all-stars.

Thank you Crain
Maybe one of the best returns on a FA reliever ever.

2013 TV Thread
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 08:33 PM) I was laughing my ass off watching the one about Nikolai tesla and Edison. How can you go wrong with John C Reilly and Crispin Glover? f*** this all. When I first watched it I too was drunk, and I thought Crispin was Jaime Lannister, which made it better. Sadly I sobered up and saw it wasnt the same actor.

Technology catch-all thread
I'm having issues setting up a new center channel speaker. I decided to add the center speaker to complement my current 2.0 setup (a sub would never fly with my downstairs neighbors) and I really wanted it to help with dialogue in shows and movies. Anywho, I'm using a cheap 2011 Sony STR-DH520 receiver and whenever I try to put it to the 3.0 setting and turn up the volume it: A. Sounds like tinny crap B. Turns off the receiver once I hit about 20 in volume, with "Protect" starting to flash on the lcd screen. I can't find anything wrong with what I'm doing, literally just going in and setting it to 3.0 and turning up the volume. Any ideas on what could be going on?

Jesse Crain dealt to Tampa Bay
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 02:04 PM) Stupid if we hold onto Rios / Alexei. If we are going to make trades, we should move those guys too. Clear the payroll, add young talent, and open up roster spots for some of that young talent to play (then use some of the cash on other vets). Seriously, if you're tanking a season then tank it and get some sort of value out of it (spects and pt for young guys). It's not like 2014 looks that promising to begin with. The only situation I understand, and this totally may be possible, is if the offers for Rios and Alexei are absolutely pitiful and if it's concern over money then maybe we can get more flexibility over the offseason.

Sox/Royals
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 01:56 PM) I don't need to wait four years for a high schooler to come up to the majors when he could be a major bust like Luke Hochevar, et. all. It's too much of an inexact science. I prefer wins for the Chicago White Sox. But throwing money at big time free agents is an exact science, isn't that right Greg "Dunn and Rios' biggest fan" 775. Edit: Yes, Rios wasn't a FA, but we took on a massive contract.

Slow pitch softball thread
My team is in a bad spot: 1. Our pitcher sucks (walked in at least 3 guys our last game, probably had close to 10 walks in the game) 2. We usually only have 10 show up to a game 3. Our pitcher cant play another other position but first (super slow), and our backup pitcher is our best OFer. With a better pitcher, we're probably 6-2 and not 3-5.

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
I'd do Wong for Ramirez + small cash in a heartbeat. Gives you a good, cheap option for the MI while unloading an ok contract (Ramirez has just disappointed offensively for the last few seasons). That seems fairly desperate for the Cards though, but I guess their SS situation is pretty awful.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 09:27 PM) definitely keep your current job while you look for a new one. This can't be stated enough, as stupid as it may seem, companies feel that just because you're currently working makes them feel more comfortable in hiring you.

I have a 2012 focus hatchback, and as some who is over 6 ft I have to put my seat all the way back, meaning tere is zero legroom in the back. If you're tall, don't expect legroom in the back. Other than that, it's a great commuter car.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 09:59 AM) I guess sometimes I just enjoyed not knowing what everyone thinks about Rolling Stone magazine, who is going to the grocery store and when, who's kid lost their tooth last week, who is upset that their boss didn't give them a raise, and who got screwed over by the guy they picked up in the bar last night... Jeesh, I can hardly tolerate it anymore.. I only use it as a way to organize with friends still. It's easier to connect with people on Facebook then it is via email.

2013 Cubs catch all thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 09:45 AM) How would people feel about that as a Peavy return? Would that even be a possible Peavy return? I'd probably be fine with it, if the pitching prospect had high upside. 3B is a position of need so I'm fine taking a gamble on a once top prospect that has struggled lately.

/Detroit
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 10:42 AM) They ended up moving a majority of their folks out of the state. Ford built a giant campus outside of detroit, Chrysler moved from the iconic building to Auburn Hills, and so on. Right now companies like Quicken are trying to change the culture by pulling other companies back in but its been very very slow. Comerica's HQ is now in Dallas. And it's not like there is a lack of young, cheap talent in the area. You have both UMich and Mich State that could funnel some of the brightest graduates into the city but there isn't enough to keep them around. Quicken is pretty interesting, from what I was told they hire hundres if not thousands of interns every summer from a lot of the state colleges. I have no idea what their intern to fulltime rate is but it's an interesting strategy.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 10:39 AM) Is Detroit the way it is because too many people 'depend on a government propping them up' or do too many people have to depend on government assistance because of the way Detroit is? e.g. there's a lot of metro areas in Virginia that wouldn't exist if not for government contracts The government, whether it was republican or democrat, relied too much on the Auto industry in that area. Once that fell, the city had nothing to fall back on. I'm sure the same would happen if the federal government moved out of DC. It's poor planning by everyone, including the people. Blue collar workers relied on 100k jobs being around for high school graduates. As awesome as though jobs were to get, barely anyone had any marketable skills when those jobs were cut.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 09:24 AM) It's a great example of having too many people depend on a government propping them up. The Detroit government has screwed that city up so much, just look at this f***tard. Governor Granholm was another politician that talked up getting new businesses (especially beyond auto) into the state but failed miserably. In fact, when I was in Ann Arbor from 2003-2008 they lost major companies in that area such as Pfizer and Comerica Bank.

I drove from Chicago to Rochester, NY last summer. Another group went from Grand Rapids, MI to Rochester. Both drives sucked. The US route goes through incredibly boring terrain through Indiana and Ohio, but it gets a lot nicer in Pennsylvania/NY.
