Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 10:33 PM) Oh... I don't know.... Maybe it has to do with being the 79th highest rated prospect in all of baseball. Could be the advanced baseball IQ that's far beyond his years... Might be that the kid has put up solid numbers in every level in the minors... 2011 - .335 / .401 / .911 2012 - .287 / .348 / .754 2013 - .301 /. 359 / .824 He's got some pop, a good K/BB rate, has a good amount of speed, and is controlled for a loooooong time. Clocks not even started yet. Adams + Wong = Me Shocked I never said he wasn't a potentially good player. But, unless the Sox are planning on reconstructing the Metrodome in downtown Chicago, I don't think a lineup consisting of 6-7 2b-types is going to be very effective. I wouldn't hate it the trade included him but I don't think he's a must get. I'd rather have the young 3B, Kelly, than Wong. He's farther away and may not pan out but Wong may never pan out either. Kelly would immediately become the #1 3B propsect in the Sox organization. Of course that would be by default because I don't know of another in the system. -

I don't understand why the Sox would have any interest in Wong. 2B is the one position where they seem to be okay. Beckham can be moved to SS. But Sanchez is probably more a 2b than SS. Johnson, for now, is a 2b. Then you have Semien and DeMichelle that have upside. I don't see how acquiring Wong is even in the equation, especially if he's the centerpiece of a deal. I like that Hahn is seeking guys that can help next year. Freese and Adams would be a very nice return. Right there is the corner IF's for the next 3-5 years. I don't thnk the Cards will include Freese though. Give me Adams, Martinez, and Anthony Garcia for Peavy. -

Worst case scenario us the Sox keep Peavy and that's not such a bad thing. In fact, I'd be just fine with it. Getting rid of Rios and Dunn will help the Sox out more than anything. Having a rotation of Sale, Peavy, Danks, Quintana, and Johnson/Santiago is not bad to build around. -

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 02:23 PM) But all that's going to happen in this start. He'll either hit is numbers and pitches or he won't in this start...Yes, it's important. What if he doesn't have his velocity and he can't throw key pitches for strikes? Wouldn't you say that's a negative re his value? I guess I should have said not too much rests on the results. I agree, it's important he has to have his velocity and movevment and that's all that matters. If he's hitting 90-94 and gets lit up for 10 runs, it's not going to hurt his trade value. Whereas, if he shuts them down for 7 innings with zero stuff, it's not going to help the cause either. -

It seems like there is too much importance being put on this start for Peavy. Teams aren't going to base Peavy's value on 1 start. As long as he shows he's healthy, it doesn't matter whether he throws a shutout or gets shellacked. If he's hitting the numbers on the gun and able to throw all his pitches are what the teams are going to want to see. It's not like if he throws 7 scoreless inning that Boston, or whoever, is going to start adding pieces to the mix. Teams know by now the limits they are willing to stretch for just about any player. -
Looking at the list of propsects, Barret Barnes, with his power/speed combo, seems like the kind of guy the Sox like to target. As for Alvarez, I'd take him in a second for the Sox. The comparisons to Dunn are flawed in that Alvarez fills a huge poistion of need for the Sox and he's only about 24 years old. You figure Pedro is going to continue to get better. I'm sure he's always going to strike out alot but he will become a better hitter with age. About 3-4 years down the road, I think Alvarez and Viciedo manning the corner infield positions would be very good for the Sox. But, Alavarez is not going anywhere. The time to get him was this past off season. If the Cardinals pull the trigger on acquiring Cabrera from the Indians, it could help the Sox extract a little more out of Pittsburgh as they may have a greater sense of urgency and try to answer that deal.

I was looking at some teams and I noticed the Rockies are screaming for starting pitching. I think a healthy Peavy would be a perfect fir for that team as they need an ace and don't look to have a veteran leader. They have Oswalt, Peavy's buddy, but he has been terrible. I don't know too much about their younger players. Two young guys that are putting up good numbers, and I don't know if they are considered cornerstone players or are being helped by playing in Coors field, are Willin Rosario and Nolan Arenado. Is it reasonable to think a deal involving Peavy could land one, or even both (with additions from the Sox) in a trade?

You = Hahn. Do you heavily shop Reed, Yes or No?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 05:51 PM) And speaking of prospects, Chris Davis and Pedro Alvarez (watching the Pirates game now) are perfect examples of two prospects that took a LONG time to come around, along with Alex Gordon. Every time I look at box scores these days, it kills me. All off season I was hoping/wanting/calling for the Sox to swing deals for Alvarez and Dominic Brown. If you believe the reports, Brown was in the doghouse and could have been had for very little as Philly had about given up on him. Alvarez also had his issues in Pittsburgh but I'm not all sure he was made available. I'm sure he could have been had though. Both of them are having very nice years and now the cost to acquire them would be prohibitive. Those two are also good examples of why I think, even though they have struggled, it's still way too early to write off Viciedo or even Flowers. -
Left handed power arms out of the bullpne are always in demand. Hell, didn't a 42 year old Arthur Rhodes sign a 4 mill/year contract, it may have even been a 2 year deal, with Texas in 2011?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 01:45 PM) lol, now back it up he'll pitch more than 53.2 inning next year
-
I think Danks will be an even better pitcher next season.
-
From a pure athletic standpoint, it would be hard to not go with Jared Mitchell. That will probably never happen, bt we are talking Santa here.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 12:45 AM) That's fine, its all opinion at this point. In his career I've seen an every other year player and I think he will be hot garbage and we will wish we unloaded him. I think he's A1 on the trade table as far as OF'ers As he should be. I agree that he won't touch the same numbers as last year. In fact, I don't know if it's true or not, but even his 2nd half last year, he seemed to be declining. I would love to see a Dayan/Domonic platoon and replace Rios(contract-wise) with Granderson. Then, after the year, hopefully the platoon guys are ready to step up to full-time duty if Granderson left via FA.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 12, 2012 -> 09:20 PM) Rios's worst year was -0.8 war, Soriano was 0.0. so, at their worst, they are basically the same. I think that's what you asked.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 12, 2012 -> 08:28 PM) Has Soriano ever had anything as bad as Rios's 2011? If you factor in trying to catch and throw a baseball, then yes.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2012 -> 10:17 AM) The Cubs were also going to pay almost all of Soriano's salary. That won't happen with the SOx. The report had the Cubs paying $10 mill of his remaining $36 mill. I think Rios is owed 25 mill which would be similar and he's a better all around player than Soriano.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 12, 2012 -> 09:11 AM) I have been following closely and have literally never seen anything anywhere that said the Phillies would consider trading Dominic Brown for Alfonso Soriano. here's the link to what I read. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/12/...-soriano-trade/
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 12, 2012 -> 03:47 AM) And get what back from Philly? Tommy Joseph? Sebastian Valle? I read where Philly talked about trading Dominic Brown for Alfonso Soriano. I'd take Brown on the Sox. I've been saying Brown +, for Rios.

I'm going with Pedro Alvarez. When he's on, he as good as anyone. Also, he and Clint Hurdle have had issues with his approach to the game in general, and hitting in particular. Hurdle was frustrated enough to talk about sending him to AAA last year. He's lefthanded and fills a position of need in 3B, even though he had some pretty bad defensive stats last year. He could eventually transition to 1b when PK leaves if his defense doesn't get better.
-
I like the trade for the Royals. Those prospects may turn out to be nothing at the MLB level. Wasn't Davis a hot shot prospect, like top 20, a couple years ago? Shileds and Davis have already shown they can play in the majors.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 03:36 PM) I don't know that it's any better or worse than other people's "sourced" information. Anyway, most of the stuff that gets discussed never happens, does that mean you have a bad source? No, but for example: I'm an Arizona Cardinals fan (I know, insert joke/comment) and I asked the scouting friend about a QB that I want the Cards to draft next year. He just so happened to be working the guy out the following week. He texted me, the guy has issues and is not the answer. That doesn't necessarily mean he's right. The guy may turn out to be great but it seems like this is much more credible source than using Chuck, serving beers at the local bar saying I watched the guy and I don't think he's any good, as a source.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 01:31 PM) If you think I've made up the information how would knowing the relation my source has to the Sox change that? I could just be making up my source. Whatever. I guess you could be. Maybe from now on, instead of saying my source, you can say my secret source. The mystery will make it more intriguing .
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 01:22 PM) Ok, I just won't post what I hear. I didn't say that. I just asked what relation your source has to the Sox?
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 01:01 PM) When my source told me that Hahn thinks very highly of Guillen I was surprised too, but this is a guy who has been around them so he would know. Who's your source? Not by name, but what relation does he have to the Sox? It seems to me people like to think they know something or are more relevant because they know somebody. I post on a football site all the time and I'll tell them exactly who my source is. I have a friend who use to coach for the Bengals and another guy who is a scout for Jacksonville. I use them as references all the time. They don't care. It's a fan forum, what's on here doesn't affect them. Is you source someone in the Sox upper management, the clubhouse , serves Hahn drinks at the bar what. Legitimize it. Otherwise anybody can have a source. I posted, I think it was prior to last year, using my frined who's a sports writer for the Columbus Dispatch as a source when the Sox and Reds were talking trade. He even put what he told me, and what I put on here, in his column the following week. Turns out he was wrong on all counts.

I'm not all hyped up on Upton either. I saw, I think it was Verducci, on MLBN and he said that looking at Upton's stats on the road, they were basically equivalent to Shelley Duncan. Obviously, Upton's a better player but I'm not selling the farm for him. If the Dbacks can get a blockbuster deal for him, they shold take it. Plus, I'm not giving up on Viciedo so early. What is he 23 and had 25 HR his first year as full time player. I like his ceiling, offensively, almost as much as Upton's. Viciedo should only get better from here on out too. Upton's first full year: .250 15 HR 42RBI .816 OPS Viciedo: .255 25 HR 78 RBI .744 OPS There slugging %'s were about the same, so basically Upton walked more. Upton definitley brings more to the table, all around, but I'd just as soon stick with Dayan and add to the team.
