QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) libel That is just straight up libel One can only hope the Sox clubhouse is graced by a legend such as Jose Valentin again.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 09:30 PM) we can re-acquire valentin

QUOTE(SouthPaw @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 09:09 PM) Kanye West (of course it is a World Series hat, so he is probably a fairweather fan. Not sure if I remember him wearing Cub's gear in his earlier videos.) He makes numerous mentions to the Southside in songs. He probably is a Sox fan...wouldn't surprise me in the least.

I still look for the Vikings to take another RB in the draft. Be it in the first round or later(I'd look later with the depth of the RB class)

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 03:44 PM) I actually am surprised. I figured he would get a fair shot to prove Ozzie wrong. I am too. I thought Ozzie was sending him a message to try and prove that he has the guts to pitch. Ozzie never gave him that chance. I do not like it.

White Sox Acquire Infielder Alex Cintron
witesoxfan replied to OfficerKarkovice's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 03:45 PM) Good Move. Cintron is one of the best utility infielders in baseball. Wonder if this means that Mackowiak is gonna be the starting CF. I do not think so This has to be a move to showing Gload or Borchard the door, and with the way Borchard has played, and with the apparent dislike the organization has for Gload, I would say it's Gload. -
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 09:54 PM) Greg Walker needs to give a lesson on laying off the low and away slider. That was our major weakness last season. KW fixed that. Pitchers that throw sliders down and away to righties now have to try and get that pitch by Thome. That was the entire purpose behind getting Thome, and is also why he's such a vital part of the White Sox offense.

I just bought the World Series DVD like 2 weeks ago, so I hope that I am still a true Sox fan.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 05:36 PM) I wouldn't say that. Just about anybody matches up well against Yankees pitching and I'm sure that the Sox would've hit them VERY hard in the ALCS. On the other hand, Anaheim's (or LA's or wherever they claim residence now) pitching was rock-solid last season. If Colon hadn't gone down, the Sox very well may have not made it to the WS. I don't believe the second sentence at all. Had you said Red Sox, then I would agree. RJ was running out of gas towards the end, and that was fairly apparent, but that doesn't stop him from being able to be dominant like he has shown in the past. Mussina has been in the same boat as Johnson over the past couple years, but he too can be, at the very least, a very solid pitcher for a team and will win games. Chacon had been throwing the hell out of the ball as well, and threw a very good game in the most important game of the series at that point for New York in game 4. This is not mentioning Small, who had been very solid all year for the Yanks, as well as the Gordon-Rivera punch at the end of the pen. Had the Sox taken their pitching staff lightly, they would have lost. I looked at the matchups prior to the ALCS, both with the Yanks and the Angels - it was quite apparent to me that the Sox had a deeper and better rotation and bullpen than Anaheim, and the offenses were pretty much equal. The Sox rotation and pen were in even better shape against the Yanks, but their offense is explosive enough that they can put up 5 runs at any given time and not look back. With Garcia and Buehrle, two pitchers prone to giving up the longball, I thought that looked a little unfavorable. Garland too has a tendency to give up the long ball from time to time, and so you could have been playing with fire had the Yanks advanced. I didn't like the Yankees matchup at all going in, and I personally am happy that the Sox did not have to face New York.

For me, Kirby was to baseball what Frank Thomas was to the White Sox. Against all odds, the little pudgy man turned himself into a legend. Rest in peace Kirby. You've once again left the game too soon.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 01:31 AM) But even if Thome were injured and all we did was make Mack into our DH, I don't think the winds would shift in Chicago. In Chicago? No In the AL Central? You bet your ass they would

C - Buck 1B - Mientkiewicz 2B - Grudzielanek SS - Berroa 3B - Teahen LF - Sanders CF - Dejesus RF - Brown DH - Sweeney I don't see a powerhouse offense, but I do see a very solid offense, and one that could be very underrated. Their rotation isn't great(probably going to be Greinke(if he comes back)-Redman (assuming he can get healed up)-Elarton-Hernandez-Mays/Madritsch/Dessens/Bautista), but it will probably be around league average. I also love their pen...MacDougal isn't the greatest closer in the world, but Burgos and Sisco are studs, and Peralta was a very solid waiver pickup as well. Just a feeling I have, but I think the Royals are a better team than anyone gives them credit for. I also don't like the Tigers at all - Kenny Rogers is nothing but overpaid, and Todd Jones had a flukey year last year. Remember the last time the Tigers signed an old reliever coming off a bad year? Yeah, he retired this year after giving up a bomb to a career minor leaguer in an instrasquad exhibition.

QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 11:28 PM) It was hard watching the baseball game today. I remember way back in grade school staying up and watching the 1987 World Series and waving my homer hankie and cheering KIRRRRRRBBBEEEE puckett he got me hooked on baseball hopefully he comes out alright The '91 World Series...game 6 specifically...was one of the most heroic displays of team leadership of all time. You just don't see guys take an entire team on their back and virtually single-handledy pull his team back into the Series. It was just simply incredible. I still get goosebumps any time I pull out that video and watch it.

And if Jim Thome doesn't produce and Vazquez doesn't adjust well, the Sox are screwed. With Jim Thome's lack of production, the LH bat that was brought in is not effective, and it kills any advantage that gave the Sox before. With Vazquez's sucking, McCarthy is being put into the rotation Vazquez probably moving into McCarthy's spot, where he will be an incredibly expensive reliever. You also can't forget about Politte and Hermanson's career years either. If they should happen to revert to their career norms, the Sox pen then takes a hit as well. Regardless of any of the above happening, if Cleveland gets off to a good start this year(say a 23-17 start after 40 games, instead of the 17-23 they put up last year), they will cause troubles. If Minnesota does the same, they are going to be troublesome. Hell, the Tigers and Royals are in the same exact category. From everything I have read on here over the past month, the 1984 White Sox were the World Champs too - until the season started. That's what makes baseball great - last year, the Sox were a 4th place lock, looking at their first top 10 pick since 1990. As it turned out, they won the Series. Now, because of the s*** that happened last year, they are guaranteed to win 100 games? I don't think so.

I still say count me in on Detroit sucking again. I just don't like the makeup of the team at all. I still say the Tigers finish in last place, with the Royals finishing in 4th with 70+ wins.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 11:25 PM) Look for my original answer on the first page or two, and you will be relieved to know I'm not abusing crack. First five years: 40 hr/year, 45 2b/year, 124 rbi/year, .332 avg, 1.04 ops, never less than 590 ab's... There is a right answer here. That is about the only thing that would ever make me forget about Crede's mullet.

Don't let the magic of 2005 wear into this year. The Sox are a good team, but they still have to beat Cleveland and Minnesota before they even have a chance at the playoffs. A year of experience and heartbreak is only going to mean Cleveland will be hungrier this year, and the Twins are still going to be scrappy as hell, cuz that's just who they are. If both stay healthy, they are 90 win teams.

QUOTE(Wedge @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 10:47 PM) Who's the more hated GM: Thomas or Millen? Easily Thomas. Atleast Detroit has a chance in hell, especially with Martz on the sidelines now. The Knicks are fookered for a long ass time.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 10:47 PM) Pujols just doesn't stack up to Carl Crawford. lol As far as hitters are concerned, without salary included, you have to take Pujols. You can't not take Pujols. He's friggin amazing. With salary included, I figure you have to take Miggy Cabrera. If we're talking about unproven talent at this point, I'm looking at Delmon Young. For pitchers, with salary not included, you are taking Santana without a doubt. I long for the days when it was Cy Mays and not Cy Santana pwning the Sox - atleast with Cy Mays, the Sox had a chance in hell. If we are taking salary into account, you must take King Felix, regardless of unproven or proven. I dunno, I guess this is just opinions, but those just seem like the most logical answers.

Game 1 - NYY 4 LAA 2 Game 2 - NYY 3 LAA 5 Game 3 - LAA 11 NYY 7 Game 4 - LAA 2 NYY 3 Game 5 - NYY 3 LAA 5 Not sure I'd say Anaheim had no problem whatsoever scoring runs. They hit the s*** out of the ball in game 3, but aside from that, I see no huge run totals. And fwiw, I didn't say the Sox would have lost to New York - I just thought Anaheim provided a better matchup. That's the same exact reason I wanted Houston over St. Louis - while Houston had the better pitching staff, their offense was not nearly as strong as St. Louis' was. Thus, again, a better matchup.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 08:53 PM) Boston's offense was just as good if not better. The Yankees would've suffered the same fate they did. Yankees pitching >>> Boston's When your game 1 starter is Matt Clement, you are fistf***ed from the beginning.

QUOTE(My Dixie Normus @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 08:37 PM) I hope the Yankees do make it to the ALCS this year. My one regret from last year was facing the Angels instead of the Yanks. The Angels were a much better team but at least beating the Yankees would have proven to the east coast bias scmucks at ESPN that the White Sox were for real. I have heard it too many times from my east coast freinds that somehow, the 05WS win is illigitimate because we did not go bow down at the alter of the NY Yankees on the way to clain the Yankee trophy. Yakees------> Had the Sox played the Yanks, it could have been a different result. The Sox are a team that allows quite a few homers, both home and away. The Yankees hit a lot of homers. That could have been disaster. Not only what was said above, but the Angels didn't have Colon - and it was pretty apparent at the end of the ALDS, they wouldn't have him for the ALCS either. The Sox matched up much better with the Angels, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Last year was friggin destiny - every little piece fell into the exact right spots, and the Sox made themselves look like a team that couldn't be beaten.

QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 01:08 AM) Giambi touches home before he's tagged. I read that they just replayed the same video of Giambi touching home before being tagged. Because he did beat the throw and was safe.
