Thomas takes high road in response to Williams
witesoxfan replied to greasywheels121's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 04:02 PM) Many people have grown up with Frank being their favorite player for as long as they can remember, no matter what flies out of Franks mouth they will always love him. The point being? I will love Thomas nearly no matter what comes out of his mouth. Does that mean I can't be objectional and I have to stand by him no matter what he says? -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 09:49 PM) Beats the hell out of me. I just got my pocket scheduels from Grandstand yesturday, and Konerko is on the front of it. Last year it was Mark. You tell me??? Willie Harris was on pocket schedules last year too. I don't see a huge deal. QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 09:58 PM) How many World Championships was Mark invovled in? 1 How many did Thomas have anything to do with? 0 Its all about winning buddy, and Thomas never did that. Mark might go to the Cards sometime in his carrer, but he might not. I bet you if he does, he will not leave on the terms that Thomas did. He will handle it with class, that is a given This is all speculation by you. I'll play along. How do you know Buehrle would leave on good terms? What if the Sox had offered him a 4 year, $44 mill deal, but he rejected it and accepted a 3 year, $24 mill deal from St. Louis instead, turning down $20 extra million and an extra year just to go to his hometown fans? What if he were to then take a cheap shot at the organization? You don't know what the hell Buehrle would do. You can speculate and I would venture to guess you're right. We could probably come to agreement on what exactly would happen, and we'd probably be right. However, we don't know s*** about that yet. That scenario may never arise, or if it were to arise, it may not be for 10 years. It might happen after 2007. We won't know until we get there. Also...you do realize that by saying Thomas had nothing to do with the World Championship, you'd be making a bold assertion that you have not even tried to back up yet, right? Using pre-determined destiny, and taking Thomas off the team and putting Everett in his spot, we probably lose the June 15th game against the DBacks - but we still go onto win 7 straight! Of course, everyone here knows how much of a momentum boost that game was, and Thomas's homer to leadoff the inning, as well as his walk in the same inning to extend it to allow Konerko to put an exclamation point on the entire game by hitting a crippling 3-run homer gave the Sox a huge jolt and a ton of momentum for a number of games. Of course Thomas had nothing to do with that little run whatsoever. Nor did his 3-run homer in the July 5th game against Tampa have anything to do with a win. If I may, I will be bold and say the Sox don't make the playoffs if Thomas does not play this past season. It's all speculation, and I have nothing to back it up other than what I already did back it up with - but if others agreed, I think we could pretty much all assert it to be true. If so, how many World Series titles has Frank Thomas helped bring the White Sox? I think the score is 1 to 1...but maybe that's just me. Oh, and standing f***ing o. The man is a Chicago f***in' legend. To not give him a standing o is classless, period. The man worked his ass off for the organization for 17 years. He put up some huge numbers, and is one of the best hitters of the past 50 years with relative ease - and I see no argument against it.

Ventura and Black Jack have both broadcasted some Sox games, haven't they?

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 05:31 PM) it wasn't even close to being as bad as what KW said. Frank never called JR an idiot. Never. He just said he was upset how it ended and you know what I agree with him. Do I think he should of opened his mouth like that. No i don't but I think he has a right to be upset after the way Kenny treated him this off season. Kenny never checked out his health or made any real effort to try and get something done with Frank. Look at through Frank's perspective. I've ended 4 of the past 7 seasons early due to injuries, including the past 2 due to injuries in the same part of my body. I was on the 40-man roster of a World Series winning team. I can also see the White Sox biggest weakness if a very good lefty bat - while Carl Everett is solid at the plate, he should really not be starting anymore. Jim Thome's nearing the end too, but he's got huge power and has shown it in his career with 4 seasons of 40 homers or more in a row, including one season with 52 homers. I also see how there is pretty much no chance in hell I'm going to come back, or that if I do, it will be as a lefty killer off the bench. Perhaps he could have tried answering the phone when KW called, or returning the phone calls if I miss them? You aren't the only Frank Thomas fan left. He'll be my favorite ever, and I'm almost positive nothing will change that ever. It doesn't mean he's not out of line with what he's saying. He's completely out of line with what he's saying. If anyone should have taken the high road, it's Frank. No one forced him to do the interview. Put yourself in KW's shoes. Hell, put yourself in your shoes. (take note WSJ, ahead of time, I do not intend to offend you) You made a choice - one that involves saying Kyle Orton should start at QB for the Bears. You probably regret making it, but nothing can be done to change what you said. People take shots at you due to your comments. You can take the high road for a while and ignore it, but eventually, after so much of it, isn't it hard to stay on the high road?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 02:52 PM) Everyone, except Frank, left on good terms this winter... This is true, and does point to the fact that KW is indeed right on this one. Frank is an idiot and is selfish. He said he was pissed because the Sox didn't offer him any type of contract or keep him up to date on anything whatsoever - I think it's because the White Sox brass probably knew that even if they would have done that, Frank would find something else just as dumb to be pissed about. Frank needs to grow the f*** up.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 09:43 AM) There is also a Ray Liotta in the Sox minor league system (unless he has been traded). He's also related to Ray Liotta, but it's like third cousins or something. There was a thread on it not too long ago
-
He's in his "prime" at 37("Look at Bonds!") and he doesn't think he is injury prone(1999, 2001, 2004, 2005)...why should we believe he felt no pain?

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 02:25 PM) Crazy Carl, surprisingly. That dude may have been a cancer on other teams but he sure handled himself well on the Sox. El Duque never b****ed about being traded either. Both players said that they understand that it's a part of the game. Caballo took it pretty well too. But if you look like 5-10 years in the past, you see quite a few who have not left on good terms. Howry is still b****ing about the Sox to this day, Foulke was pissed at the Sox, as was Durham, and this is not mentioning Thomas or Maggs. Do other teams have this many players leave on bad terms as well?
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 02:23 PM) Timo. No way dude. I called him a stupid attention whore - thus, he did not leave on good grounds - why I called him that, I am unsure of. But I did.

Can one f***ing player please leave on good terms? JFC

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 02:13 PM) Eagles are your's wite NOICE! For the Eagles, willing to trade down a little. Not necessarily looking to, but very much willing to do so.

I'll take 2 teams as well Eagles or Giants, preferably Eagles

Frank just needs to get to 500 or needs to stfu. Being angry over the team you have been a part of your entire career letting you go after 16-17 years is understandable; this is over the line. It doesn't sound like my favorite player anymore...it sounds like a person that's lost their mind. Please Frank, for all Sox fans - just shut up.

QUOTE(longshot7 @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 02:43 PM) Am I counting wrong? I got one final spot. bench: Owens, Ozuna, Mackowiak, Widger bullpen: Jenks, Hermanson, Politte, Cotts, McCarthy, Bajenaru Okay, so Jeff's not a lock. But still, that's two pitchers left - not a pitcher and a bench guy. How is Owens going to be the opening day CFer and rookie of the year if he starts the year on the bench?
