  1. I saw a highlight of it. He definately got it all.
  2. I'm looking past Hudson's ERA this year, and am looking more towards the ERA he usually posts, which is around 3.00. Everett is moved to LF then with Gload taking over at 1B for Konerko. This trade is also making the assumption that we sign Vizquel. The lineup would look similar to this(I think I already posted it once, but I'll do so again anyways)... Byrnes - CF Vizquel - SS Thomas - DH Everett - LF Rowand - RF Gload - 1B Uribe - SS Crede - 3B Davis - C There are worse lineups out there then that...I can guarantee you that...and we improve defensively just due to the fact that Everett is moving from RF to LF. There is an outside shot that KW could ask for Beane to give him Durazo as part of the trade too, and Durazo would then be used either as the starting 1Bman, or off the bench.
  3. That post lost all credibility with that line right there.
  4. Paul Konerko is probably the most overrated White Sox player within the past couple years atleast. So he hit .270 40 110...big deal. His OPS was not .900, and that tells me a lot. He's also making $8.5 mill next year, is slower then slow, cannot run the bases, and has limited range at 1B. One could argue that he is actually not helpful but is rather a burden to have. I don't feel that way, just saying someone could say that.
  5. By that logic, you wouldn't want Mark Prior at the front of your rotation, or Flash Gordon as a setup guy in your pen. Don't be a homer. If the guy can play, he could have played in the California Pino league for all I care.
  6. I'm not happy with that rotation by any means. Armas could very easily be hurt for the year and the Sox are depending on Jason Grilli or Felix Diaz out of the #5 spot for the year, and I do not want to even risk that. Armas could be a solid pitcher. It won't be for the White Sox.
  7. They are not going to pay $6 mill per for Cabrera over 3-4 years and will pay $4 mill per over 2 years for Vizquel because Vizquel is a better #2 hitter, is cheaper, and can be considered the better defensive SS(due to his multiple GG's). I don't care if Cabrera is a good fit for USCF, I don't want him on the White Sox. He costs more money, he costs more years, and he isn't a real good #2 hitter.
  8. This is the Yankees we're talking about. They can afford to give Jason Giambi $10 mill this year, see him hit .230 and be out for the year with a tumor, and see no ill effects payroll wise. All they are doing by not picking up his option is running the risk that they can't come to an agreement and that some other team swoops in very early and gets him to a deal he's looking for. Odds are good that something will be worked out, but if negotiations break down at all, it could get ugly
  9. Here's what I have found on hip problems regarding the Big 3 Zito - nothing Mulder - missed the latter part of 2003 due to tendinitis in his hip Hudson - a hip problem was the reason he pitched as poorly as he did in the postseason of 2002. I did not find anything about lingering effects or it being a chronic problem. Here are the links to the pages... Mulder Hudson
  10. I could definately see Armas breaking out. He's got a good arm and can pitch well. He can be a little erratic with his control at times, and that will probably get him into trouble, but I could see him becoming a pretty solid pitcher with some team next year. This is, of course, assuming he can stay healthy.
  11. Not caring about getting booed off the field is different then not caring about winning. I am not a MLB pitcher, so I can't comment for sure...but I do not think I'd care if I got booed off the field. I think I would care that I pitched poorly, and them booing me would have no effect on me at all(which is exactly what not caring is). Defense is the only part of Lee's game that improved? In 2004, he had his highest average ever, his highest OBP ever, his highest SLG% ever(so therefore, he had his highest OPS ever too), he had his second highest total of walks in a season(52, second to the 75 he had in 2002), he scored 100 runs for the second straight year and 3rd time in his career, had 180 hits for the second straight year, had 31 homers for the second straight year, and fell 1 RBI short of having 100 RBI for 2 straight years. Carlos continues to get better and better. I see no reason why that would stop next year. To say Carlos does not care is assinine. He gets lackadazical at times, he is stupid at times, and his baseball instincts are a bit off...but he busts his ass all the time(with the occassional slip up while staring down a homer that is actually not a homer but is instead a double which is turned into a single because Carlos doesn't run) and has improved to the point where he is the best player on the Sox.
  12. It may very well be too much. I think I have finally figured that out while reading the thread. For 2005...I'd take either Hudson or RJ...whoever I give up the least for. If given a choice between the two with the price being the same, I would make the trade for Hudson, assuming I can resign him. If I can't resign him...it's whoever the Yankees want less that we get. Not sure about the chronic hip problem though. Someone maybe could help out with that.
  13. God that's so fun playing all night...I'm not sure there's anything better then that.
  14. Lee and Garland do actually care about winning. Lee wouldn't have tried to improve his all-around game this much if he didn't care, and Garland is just not good and is very calm about whatever he does. Backing up your teammates and having a fight like that is completely different then taking a cheap shot at the opponent. Cheap shots are BS and are low blows. What should have been done was for Jackson to hit Hunter in the 9th...he pussed out, and killed any life the Sox had in them. That's completely clean. What Mike Jackson said by not hitting Torii Hunter was that he didn't give a s*** if the other team ran over Burke, and that's not the message you want to tell to a team, especially when you are one of the leaders. Those 2 may be friends, but you gotta stick up for YOUR team in that situation. But as has been said...barrelling over the opponent's catcher like Hunter did is bush. You don't do that, unless you want a fastball in your earhole, or if you know the other team won't do anything to retaliate.
  15. Just hearing some of these stories, I heard a story about a kid my dad knew he high school. My dad played a little football in like 8th and 9th grade. Anyways, during a game that had gotten out of hand, the RB was running a play and the 2nd stringers were in. The RB got absolutely mauled because the second string OLine men were just absolutely terrible and the ball came out when he got hit. The ball ended up under his elbow, and the DLine men all jumped on him after he had gotten knocked down. Needless to say, his elbow got seriously f***ed up. What's worse is that the kid's dad was a lawyer. I bet the coach was feeling real good knowing that
  16. He should, but he does a bad job of hitting slow bouncing balls or very high bouncing balls. I don't know how many times I saw him roll over a ball and hit an easy grounder right to the 2Bman.
  17. I did throw out the Cards part in a later post, realizing how much the White Sox saved. Also...Konerko's OBP was .360 this year with an OPS of .894(even though he does not end up in Oakland in the given trade), Lee's OBP was .366 and he had an OPS of .891, and Kendall's OBP was about .400 the past 2 years, and his OPS was .815 in 03 and .790 in 04. That point holds little value. There are flaws to the trade...that's obvious. There are flaws to every trade. And Beane's ego plays little part in the moves he makes. He knows he f***ed up...and I would guess you see Rhodes in a different uniform next year.
  18. I think it's because I'm not sold that Oakland's really terribly interested in Konerko. If they are, it's a completely different story...I mentioned something similar to that earlier in the thread. You capitalize on that and take advantage of Beane being stupid. If we could get Hudson for Konerko plus 2 or 3 prospects or so, I would do it in a heartbeat. You just have to know that if Beane were to trade Huddy, he'd try to see if anyone could top Konerko and prospects for Huddy...and I think the Yankees could very easily just say yeah, here's Jorge Posada, plus we take on all of his contract, for Tim Hudson. Beane upgrades at C while not taking on any payroll. We'd then either have to outbid New York, or let them have Huddy for Jorge alone.
  19. Willie reminds me very little of Castillo. Castillo is more or less a slap hitter who will get a ton of infield hits, while I do not see Willie being able to become a slap hitter like that. Willie reminds me more of Tony Womack. More of a solid singles hitter who can beat out an infield hit when necessary.
  20. They did this with Roger Clemens a couple years ago too IIRC. Dunno remember
  21. All info courtesy OSU's official site... OSU's and BA's Scouting Report on him BA's Hometown - Stillwater, Oklahoma High School - Stillwater High School Height - 6'2'' Weight - 210 Position - 3B DoB - 12-14-82 Bats/Throws - R/R General info: Has a lot of power along with good bat speed and strength, but needs to work on making contact. He is improving defensively, but is not there yet, and never will be a great defensive 3Bman, but will suffice if he pans out offensively. Has a very good work ethic. Collegiate: Was a first-team preseason All-American going into the 2004 season. Hit .362 10 47 in 62 games last year while having an OBP of .465 and an SLG% of .580 for an OPS of 1.045 in 2004 as a Junior. Hit .364 25 132 over his 3 years at OSU. Had a 20-game hitting streak during the 2003 season, and ended the season on a 7-game hit streak. Has played mainly 3B, but also a little 1B as well as DHing some too. Hit for the cycle April 15th 2003 against Texas Pan-American. Was All-Big 12 in 03 and 04 at OSU(or I assume so considering he was a pre-season All-American this past year), was on the Big 12's All-Freshmen team in 2002, and was an honorable mention Freshmen All-American in 2002. Also was the starting QB for OSU in both 2002 and 2003, throwing for 55 TD's, an all-time record for OSU. Threw for a total of 6090 yards in his 3 years as a Cowboy QB, including 5639 as a starter and led them to records of 8-5 in 02-03 and 9-4 in 03-04. High School: Was the Daily Oklahoman Player of the Year and the Stillwater News Press Player of the Year as a Senior, along with being named the Frontier Conference Player of the Year. Hit .478 13 64 with 20 doubles in 44 games. His team had a 36-8 record, and he led them to a spot in the Class 6A title game. Also threw for 2,019 yards and 19 TD's as the QB of his high school team, and was a top prospect coming out of high school in both football and baseball. Personal: Enjoys swimming and attending FCA functions. Was undecided on a major. Was the son of Wendall and Rhonda Fields, and has 1 brother, Jace. His mom was the first female athlete to receive a full scholarship to OSU. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As I get more time, I will start to add his 2004 stats in his first year as a pro.
  22. I usually just do it on my own, personally. Wait till there's about 5-10 seconds left and get the bid in. If you are unfortunate, you will lose...but if not, you can have it. I have no insight on the actual programs themselves though.
  23. You remember what the Florida Marlins did prior to the 2003 season, right? They traded Charles Johnson, Preston Wilson, Pablo Ozuna and Vic Darensbourg to Colorado for Juan Pierre and Mike Hampton. They then shipped Hampton to Atlanta for Tim Spooneybarger, who has pitched in 33 games for Florida in 2 years. In making that deal, they took on $30 mill TOTAL of Hampton's contract($9 mill for 03, $10 mill for 04, and $11 mill for 05...after that, they are off the hooks). You look at that trade, and think about how bad of a trade that was...but you also think about it and how it got Florida a very good leadoff hitter in Juan Pierre, and it got rid of 2 very ugly contracts in CJ and Wilson. They made the move and saved money. Basically...they traded their starting catcher, their starting CFer, a mediocre IFer, and a mediocre reliever for a young leadoff hitter and a reliever who has pitched 33 games for them in 2 years AND had to give up $30 mill. Crazy thing about it was that they ended up winning the World Series, even with that. That was actually more or less due to the fact that they had a very solid core of players to begin with and they just needed something to spark it, and their strong minor league system helped a little too(Willis and Cabrera...yeah). When you compare my trade to that trade, $10 mill over 3 years is tame. We are getting a very solid OFer in Byrnes and one of the best SPs in the league in Hudson, and while Lee and Konerko are both quite solid players(unlike CJ and Wilson, who were being overpaid severely), their replacements are not bad by any stretch of the imaginination, though they are not nearly as good as Konerko and Lee are either.
  24. It's not a matter of whether Hudson's pitching is better then Lee, Konerko, prospects(and as I have pointed out, there are good odds that these prospects become decent major leaguers some day, nothing more...I'd hardly say that Munoz and Diaz will become very good MLBers some day...not saying they won't be solid, just saying they won't make or break a team), plus $10 mill(which is paid over 3 years, not all this year). It is a matter of whether Hudson's pitching, plus Byrnes's offense, plus Gload's offense is better then the s*** we get from the 5th starter now(or who we would sign, whichever) plus Lee's plus Konerko's. I think it is. Another thing that is worth noting is that the move still frees up around $5 mill for this year, which would probably be spent on a reliever, such as Percival. I would make that trade for RJ. But trading for RJ restricts us a ton financially, no matter the move we make(unless we, again, overpay and have someone take on Konerko, and then we are losing even more offensively, because we still need to find another OFer). RJ also has to accept any trade before he can be moved, and odds are pretty good he would not accept a trade to Chicago, though I can't say that with 100% certainty. He's due to make $16.5 mill or so next year, almost exactly $10 mill more then Hudson. Hudson's also much younger and has a future in front of him.
  25. I still think everyone underestimate's Hudson's value and what he would do for the team, but whatever.
