  1. Thanks to both of you. Damn I need to keep up to date better on these things.
  2. Good control, good GO-AO ratio, good amount of K's, good ERA...the only real negatives are that he didn't throw a lot of innings in the second half and that he'd be going from a real good pitcher's park in the NL to a good hitter's park in the AL. A good thing for us is that he is not known well by many people, and his wins were down last year, and a lot of people look at wins as a good barometer of success(when a lot of times, it isn't). If we could not get an absolute stud like Unit, then Perez is a nice option.
  3. Blanco's a FA? I could have sworn Minnesota picked up his option.
  4. I think we could do that anyways, even if the rotating moderators idea doesn't work. If a moderator or even an administrator is going to be gone for an extended period of time(probably up to 3 days or more), there should be an acting moderator just for the time being.
  5. Key word there is the money
  6. That can be a misleading line though too. Pitching was non-existent in 2000...Boston had the best team ERA, and that was 4.23. There were 6 teams with an ERA of 5.00 or more...that's almost half the league. I'm not discounting what Manny did...he had an insane year...but it probably isn't as good as it looks. EDiT: I should note that this is only the AL. I figured that was obvious, considering Manny has only played for an AL team his entire career.
  7. Ticket prices increasing probably has something to do with it.
  8. No. KW will be the GM. I'd like Stone in the organization. Wouldn't be a bad idea.
  9. I think if the admin and mods nominate who is to be on the ballot it's a little different.
  10. If I'm thinking along the lines of what he's thinking, I agree with him. Personally, I think it's a great idea. Have say 2 moderators per forum, plus a rotating moderator, and then have 2-3 global moderators too, along with all the admins.
  11. Take off the Sawks blinders. Albert Pujols? And, quite frankly, I'd rather have Sheffield or ARod over Manny too...and there are still others I'd probably have over Manny in a heartbeat.
  12. You probably could. That's not my dream to hear though. If I had it my way, I would have Hawk Harrelson and Bob Uecker in the booth. I know that's not possible, but man that'd be fun. And they're both play-by-play guys, I know...but they're both so colorful, they could just switch back and forth.
  13. I know exactly what you're talking about. I don't like the casual fan either. However, you can't win without money nowadays, unless you get hotter then hell(like the Angels did in 02 and the Marlins did in 03), and in order to do that, you have to have a good core of players to build around.
  14. I think I'd like Kent. He's a pretty damn solid player and is a winner. My only beef with him is his lack of range at 2B.
  15. Casual fans = $$$ Liking them is not the issue. Money is. Casual fans bring in money.
  16. Playing for the Expos was part of the reasoning behind it, and him getting hurt had a little to do with it too.
  17. I'm going to take the other side of the argument on this, much like red suggested. Our fan base for the casual fan is non-existent(as evidence by our attendance). The Cubs and Red Sox casual fan bases are among the best in the majors(as evidence by their attendance). So, if us becoming a "cursed" team attracts the casual fan, retains the die-hard fan, and gives us more positive publicity, WHO GIVES A s***? I find it completely ironic that many people on here complain about ESPN talking about the east coast teams and the Cubs and such other teams and not talking about us, yet cannot see good reasoning behind becoming a "cursed" team. We are not cursed...there is no such thing as curses. It is just continual choking and getting bad bounces throughout your history. But, I ask again, if a curse brings on the casual fan, who cares?
  18. How long do you think it will be before a team from the Central in general period wins the World Series? In it's existance...the same 10 year span...there has not been a team from either the NL Central or the AL Central to win the World Series.
  19. This post sums everything up for me. Another example was the 2002 season when Bonds and Kent were at each other's throats and were about to kill each other, and ended the season losing the World Series(a World Series they were 6 outs away from winning). If you make it to the series, you have to be a good team.
  20. You have to spend a lot of money on something...be it players or front office men(or in some cases, both). It's cheaper to spend a lot of money on the front office...yet JR apparently fails to realize this, even after watching the Twins, who have done it, b****slap us 4 straight years(though the Indians got the best of them in 01). 2005 is do or die. s*** or get off the pot is right, because you will not get to sit on the pot for a long f***ing time.
  21. The Red Sox became just the 4th different team to represent the AL in the World Series in the past 10 years(Indians twice, Yankees 6 times, Angels once, and the Sawks once). The NL has had 7 different teams represent them in each of the last 7 years(Cards, Marlins, Giants, DBacks, Mets, Braves, Padres in that order from 04-98). Just thought I'd throw that out there.
  22. They're pretty good. To come back from 3-0 is what makes this even more incredible. This team was done, and now they're on top of the world. I guess I'd rather have it be them then the Yanks.
  23. Because GS will spend $250 mill if he has to. It's sad...but possible Just gotta hope we get Unit at some point, get hotter the hell, and beat the s*** out of the Yanks in the postseason.
