I'll take that one step further. Give me Juan Uribe who is 5 years younger then Cabrera, has more versatility then Cabrera around the infield, is cheaper then Cabrera, has more power and hits better in the clutch(.308 7 58 .855 with runners on, .323 5 51 .934 with RISP, .340 5 28 1.096 with RISP w/ 2 outs, and 5-for-9 with a homer, 14 RBI, and a 1.711 OPS with the bases loaded) The main thing Cabrera has on Uribe is that he can actually steal bases. I'll let some other team take Cabrera for $6 mill while I keep Uribe and see him put up better numbers then Cabrera while making a twelfth of what he makes.

Don't know why anyone would do something like that. Sometimes, to figure out good a player is defensively, you have to look at stats outside the box. Basketball is exactly the same. You don't just look at how many steals a guy gets per game to determine how good he is defensively...you also look at how many points he gives up on average along with other stats. Just because a guy doesn't get a lot of steals does not mean he's not good defensively, right? So, in essence, the same argument can be made for baseball. Just because a guy makes a lot of errors does not mean he's bad defensively. You have to look at other forms of statistics to determine how good a player is defensively. What is a webgem for Cabrera can sometimes be a routine play for Jose Valentin.

Ray could kick anyone's ass. I would not want to get on Ray's bad side.

Orlando Cabrera is overrated too. You can look at the numbers I posted, or ignore them...they are still there to look at though, and they tell the truth.
-
I want Uribe hitting 6th or 7th in the lineup...I do not like Uribe htiting 9th. But I think I could live with that lineup. There are worse offenses out there.

I'll take Jose Valentin defensively over Cabrera, thank you very much Valentin - 4th in range factor(4.910), 2nd in zone rating(.878) while committing 20 errors in 409 total chances, a .965 fielding percentage Cabrera - 14th in range factor(4.390), 14th in zone rating(.838) while committing 15 errors in 489 chances, a .978 fielding percentage

I'll take Vizquel for $2-3 mill less a year for fewer years with fewer strings attached. Boston can keep Cabrera...$6 mill is too much for him.

I'm not sure Ted Lilly is available. At any rate, I think Toronto would be retty dumb to give up Lilly. He really came into his own in the second half of last year.
-
For a player who gets injured as often as Erstad does, $4 mill could be too much too. He's not a difference maker like Frank Thomas can be, where him making $8 mill will either be a steal or a burden, depending on his health. A $4 mill Erstad could end up being a good player who's making too much money, or he's a burden.

Am I going too far to say that Carlos is the best player on the Sox right now? And in doing so, is that a good thing or a bad thing?
-
2000 was a fluke, but 2002 was not. When he is healthy, he is a very solid player. Not $8 mill a year solid though. They'd have to throw in quite a bit of cash.

I removed the team option part.

Who wouldn't mind this for an offseason?

I don't want a catcher that's going to hit .210. That's Mark Johnson territory. His CERA(I assume that's catcher's ERA) was probably swayed a little by having the league's best pitcher on his staff, and I doubt he had a lot to do with Santana figuring out wtf was wrong. He also had Radke, who was pretty damn solid too, along with one of the league's best bullpens. You have to think about those kinds of things before you just note that he had one of the best CERA's. If I caught Pedro Martinez and only Pedro Martinez, I could have one of the better CERA's too. Doesn't mean a lot when you catch good pitchers. He does have a good arm...but his arm does not make up for what he lacks. Burke has a pretty solid arm too, and it is quite accurate as well. No need to bring on Blanco. Davis-Burke will do just fine for me. And, while Dellucci may be a solid player, we have no use for him. We have more OFers then we really need right now, so there is no use for Dellucci. Harris, Timo, Gload, Everett, and Burke can all play a little OF, and they can cover the OF from left to right. Also...I don't buy into this whole getting rid of the power hitters thing, and I don't think Oz or KW do either. What they do believe in is getting rid of the hit or miss guys...mainly Valentin, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are shopping Crede, Borchard, and even Konerko too. -
Because they're run by a bunch of goofballs? I honestly have no idea. They probably have their reasons.
-
Bagwell? And it is possible. You build yourself up over time, and you will get big like that. I'm not ruling roids out as a possibility...but that doesn't mean they are on roids. The only two superstars that I think were on roids and are now off are Sosa and Giambi...what with them missing a ton of time this year, being hurt, playing like s***. Meanwhile, both Bonds and Sheff are MVP candiates.

Theo got him to steal important bases for the Sawks, right? That decision was easy. I sat watching the game knowing that was the move to make.

Blanco's terrible, and to spend damn near $2 mill on him would be awful. I'd rather use Hankins then sign Blanco. No way would I sign Percival to a long term contract. Maybe 2 years at the very most. No way do you sign Delluci to a long term deal either. Probably a one year deal at the very most, and I don't even see the need to sign him with how many OFers we have, even if a lot of them are bad. Minnesota will almost undoubtedly resign Radke, and if they don't, the Sox need to sign him ASAP. Make those b****es pay for not resigning him. I also see Odalis Perez as a viable option to sign too. The Sox should look at either Radke or Perez if they cannot get an absolute stud(like Unit or Pavano) -
I'm pretty sure that is what owuld happen. However, I'm not sure Schilling would have ended up in Boston had Francona not been hired.

DAMN That's not a bad day at the office.
-
I'd be fine with either. I think the organization will look at Vizquel personally...I don't think they are ready to give Uribe the starting nod just yet, and that's why they'll take Vizquel over Polanco. Best case scenario, we sign both of them, have an IF of Uribe-Vizquel-Polanco-Konerko/Gload from 3B to 1B.
-
I will be asking for a new sig within the next month or so, and on it, I will want the White Sox middle infielders...this is, of course, assuming they sign one, and I think they almost have to sign one. I don't want one with Uribe and Harris on it. I will want one with Uribe and the other guy the Sox sign.
-
I'd get him having one thing in mind...to not allow him to go 100+ pitches. Usually, the nastier the slider bites, the nastier it is on the arm. You throw too many of those and you are going to hurt your arm pretty bad. You want him to be a stud for you all year long, you should probably try to keep him fresh.
-
Not sure, but it won't be much of a player.

There are others out there. Animals are smarter then a lot of people give them credit for. And in a completely unrelated topic, I just found out that if you read the word 'perils' too quickly, it looks like 'penis.'
