  1. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:52 AM) For his production, no it's not at all. But if he is going to end up being a 4th outfielder for us, I'd much rather give the spot to Danks at 1/5th the cost because there will probably not be a big enough drop off to warrant an extra $2.5-$3 million. It's not, but there's no reason to give up your leverage just to get rid of $2.5 mill. You can accept a little less to get rid of him, but getting rid of him just to rid yourself of him is terribly inefficient. I'd expect, at the very least, they get a big, raw arm.
  2. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:50 AM) I don't think DeAza qualifies as a surplus of anything. I think he'll be gone as soon as someone offers the Sox a deal that benefits the Sox, and IMO this has likely been our stance on DeAza since last winter. I think Hahn's just been getting low-balled on DeAza for a while. If the Sox have felt that way about De Aza for a year, they would have asked for a hell of a lot less than Maikel Franco for him from Philadelphia last year. They may want to move him, but Rick is a smart dude.
  3. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:48 AM) What if we're giving up Snodgress + Beck or something & in the process buying one of the DBacks better pitching prospects, or maybe 1 and we're getting Cahill who was originally in the discussion? Why do the Sox need or want Cahill?
  4. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:48 AM) De Aza is in his 2nd year of arbitration. He made just over $2 million last year so he's probably looking around $3-$3.5 million this year. You're right, I was looking at outdated information. That's still not a bad price.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:46 AM) If they get Skaggs/Santiago and 2 good prospects for Trumbo, then goodness that's a hell of a deal by them. No, Arizona is getting them. No idea from which side. I'd guess one from LAA, one from the Sox. I think the Sox will get something additionally from LAA too, if everything works out.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:43 AM) That was in the PCL, right? Yes, the league with an average OBP of .342.
  7. QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:40 AM) His elbow definitely is a scary situation. Many players have had this same issue and just a matter of time turns into Tommy John Surgery: Carl Crawford, Ardoylis Vizcanio, Colby Lewis, Brett Anderson, Casey Kelly. Those are players that come to my head just right now. I would stay away from Eaton, not a true CF. Reports tend to show he's more suited for LF. Davidson is a better fit. We have a huge hole at 3B. Only one of those was a position player. You expect pitchers to eventually need the surgery because their entire job is to throw. On the contrary, the MRI for Eaton suggested that it had healed up.
  8. QUOTE (dayan024 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:40 AM) If Whitesox only get Eaton out of this deal seems like its a fail I don't think that's even remotely a possibility at this point, re: only getting Eaton.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:36 AM) The other problem is that this makes DeAza essentially worthless...nobody's going to give up anything if they know we're going to be forced to trade him and Alejandro's salary's already going up to $4.5 million or so. He's not really a bargain unless he's projected as a starting outfielder. On the bench, MEHHHH....someone might take him off our hands, but we'd get very little to nothing in return. Definitely not the best way to maximize the return our trade pieces if all we get for DeAza and Santiago is Adam Eaton. Bench players routinely make $3.5 million, and the Sox aren't forced to move him. This does to hurt De Aza's value that he hasn't already done himself. I also have no idea where that $3.5 million value came from. He's going to be arbitration eligible for like the first time next year. I'm guessing he gets closer to $2-2.5 million, which, comparatively speaking, is a significant amount less.
  10. If the Sox had discussed Kendrick earlier, I am guessing he is a part of the discussions now too. The hold up is satisfying the difference in values. The Sox getting Kendrick and Eaton for Santiago alone would be stupid good value. Maybe they'll be able to kick Beckham over to LAA with either side kicking an additional smaller piece back to Arizona.
  11. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:26 AM) He didn't mention the 3-team rumor until Keith Law broke it. It indicates he was withholding the information until it hit twitter. That's the point though, he's not denying it. The Sox are also not an organization that lies. They will mislead the hell out of you, but if the beat writer says "the Sox are not in on Juan Uribe," then I have to believe they are not in on Juan Uribe.
  12. It depends on to what extent they shut him down. Still, I think some of that can be chalked up to rust. I want to see what he does next year. -11 UZR is bad, but that's a huge outfield and, as I said, if he were rusty and not getting good reads on balls for 2 months, it can affect your UZR a great deal
  13. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:21 AM) His latin american sources. Also Scott Merkin isn't suppose to be revealing White Sox plans or offers, hes the beat writer. But then see these. QUOTE (dayan024 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 10:57 AM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 23s Heard this morning White Sox were close on something and that could be the three-way deal mentioned by @keithlaw QUOTE (dayan024 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 10:58 AM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 26s As I said last night, the White Sox are not in on Juan Uribe. Entertaining guy, great teammate. Doesn't fit their plan right now And I see a guy who is more than willing to diverge some details. I also don't see what Latin American sources would have insight into this situation. I don't think the Sox are in on Uribe whatsoever.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:20 AM) What makes Enrique Rojas more connected to the situation than Scott Merkin? I bet Rojas is being fed info by the agent while Merkin is getting it from the team. The agent is trying to get LA to commit a second year for Uribe.
  15. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:16 AM) According to a Enrique Rojas tweet, we have offered a 2 year deal and the Dodgers are just offering 1 year an option and Uribe will decide soon What makes Enrique Rojas more connected to the situation than Scott Merkin?
  16. You almost have to get rid of Beckham at that point, and the only team I've ever seen show interest in Beckham is Toronto.
  17. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:15 AM) The Angels tried to land Santiago from the White Sox in talks for Howie Kendrick, tweets Bill Shaikin of the L.A. Times, but they're now focused on getting him as part of this three-team deal. Maybe we can get Kendrick as well?? Hmm /wrench-thrown
  18. QUOTE (woods of ypres @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:10 AM) Assuming they acquire their centre fielder. Who gets shopped: Viciedo, or De Aza? Both, whoever the get more in return for, however, I imagine they'd prefer to deal De Aza.
  19. Can't imagine that Adam Eaton would get White Sox fans excited. It's a nice move, but not a super exciting move.
  20. I think Brown has a lot of room to improve. He's far more athletic than Dunn and makes much better contact. Ultimately, I think he can be a CarGo lite, putting up like .300/.350/.550, which is still monstrous, but I think he'll be a liability against left handed pitching and, given the amount of experience he has, I have no idea how much he can actually improve in the field. I have no problem if they deal Santiago for him, but then they need to find room for him, which means at DH or LF.
  21. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 09:37 AM) This is why I hate that WAR has become mainstream. Brown was better in every way offensively last year, but because De Aza was below average in CF he's the more "valuable" player. Makes a ton of sense. No, because De Aza was a below average to average defensive player in CF and Dominic Brown was one of the worst defenders in the league. That's why he was more valuable. You can find left fielders all over. Hell, Gregor Blanco was a more valuable player. The fact is Dominic Brown hit 2/3 of his home runs in May and June, was mediocre otherwise, does not hit lefties well (.252/.296/.429/.724), and is a poor defensive player. I have no problem if the Sox acquire him, but temper your expectations. Hector Santiago is an incredibly similar player - high on talent, 4 years of service time remaining, shown flashes of brilliance but has also struggled at times, both entering their age 26 seasons. It's frankly a perfect match on paper if Philadelphia is looking to add starting pitching. There's no need to handicap yourself and immediately include a great young reliever and a guy who, at the very least, can be a very valuable 4th outfielder for your club.
  22. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 09:35 AM) Cheers. God damn sensitive assholes. Is this really necessary?
  23. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 04:58 PM) I gave up 3 because I didn't care about the 2 of them and they kinda make sense for the Phillies. You'd seriously balk at a Brown trade because of De Aza? Considering De Aza was a more valuable player than Dominic Brown last year, yes, I would balk at it because of De Aza. I'd also balk because of Jones and because of Santiago plus all those guys. Like I said, I have no problem with Santiago for Brown, straight up. That's about perfect value.
  24. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:49 AM) I'm sure they could get both if they really wanted to. Who's in front, Astros and...? Sox could make a small deal. The thinking with ANY Rule-5 IMO has to be Flowers (out of options) vs. Rule-5 pick, and if both look good in ST then you start the season with both, otherwise it's just 1 roster spot. Keeping 2 Rule-5 picks on the roster would be very difficult obviously, but you could trade for both just to have that competition in Spring while knowing you'd return one. Whoever would make it just has to be on the 25-man or DL through the season to be kept, and then he could go back to the minors if he had to. I believe you have to be taking up an active spot on the 40-man, so if placed on the DL, it has to be the 15-day DL.
  25. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:44 AM) Because Nieto is 23 in A ball and Perez is 22 and has made it to AAA. Nieto would be completely overmatched against big league pitching, at least Perez might be able to adjust given his experience at different levels. How many picks do the Sox get to make? Do they still have two slots open since Bellisario and Paulino signed after 12/2? In 296 plate appearances, Carlos Perez put up a .269/.328/.345/.672 line in the PCL. The league's splits were .270/.342/.414/.756. He's been to AAA, woo hoo, he was still terrible there. It appears he can handle the bat, but I've never seen him or Nieto. Also, just because a guy has not played above A+ does not mean you could not use him in the majors. Jesus Flores had never been above A+ ball and he appeared to be turning into a good catcher before he was injured. Hamilton never played above A+ ball either. If the Sox feel Nieto is their guy, then that's what they feel. No matter who they take, they'll likely end up being terrible and/or returned to their original teams anyways.
