QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 08:39 AM) You have weird bad dreams. It's primarily due to the ether.

Sox Sign Jose Abreu - 6/$68 million
QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 08:26 AM) This, in the 'Bad Dream' Department..... Abreu signs, is added to the 40 man roster, and starts out in either Birmingham or Charlotte after spring training. Also under bad dream department, my mother turns out to be my father and my dog is actually a cat. ... This isn't going to happen. Dream of women.

Let's sign Brian McCann
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 01:40 AM) If the Sox sign Ellsbury and McCann then I am going to jizz in your pants. Uhh ok

Sox Sign Jose Abreu - 6/$68 million
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 04:52 AM) He is about to turn 34 as well. And wouldn't we be giving up our second round pick? No, he can't even be given a qualifying offer because he was traded (twice)

Pretty sure this is also the biggest deal in Sox history too.

Sox Sign Jose Abreu - 6/$68 million
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:30 PM) Probably not, but I'd have to think having two Cubans on the team certainly didn't hurt us. This was actually what I was going to post almost verbatim. I agree 100%.

Sox Sign Jose Abreu - 6/$68 million
If Abreu can be a 4 WAR player, which is no small task, it has a chance to add 7 wins. Dunn hurt the Sox at 1B and Konerko was obviously brutal.

Sox Sign Jose Abreu - 6/$68 million
QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:23 PM) I think having Alexei and Viciedo on the team had a lot to do with getting him. Hopefully, he turns out to be as good, if not better, than Cespedes and Puig. I don't think they had anything to do with it. All $$$

Sox Sign Jose Abreu - 6/$68 million
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:01 PM) No but maybe Beckham? He should just go anyways. I think there are some around the league that still hold him in high regard. The Jays were one team. Give them Gillaspie and Beckham and get Lawrie.

Sox Sign Jose Abreu - 6/$68 million
I'll change my initial odds to 85% Sox, 10% Rangers, 5% field. I still think they'll get him. I've thought that for a while. Reminds me of the Rios deal in that it just makes way too much sense not to happen.

Sox Sign Jose Abreu - 6/$68 million
Worst thing about this is that we likely won't have any solid confirmation until after the World Series.

Sox Sign Jose Abreu - 6/$68 million
QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 08:09 PM) Obviously he won't do exactly that, but my point is if he has a stellar year but strikes out 200+ times, I'd be worried. If he hits, I could care less how many times he strikes out.

Sox Sign Jose Abreu - 6/$68 million
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 04:42 PM) I saw it in one of the stories threads, but weren't the Reds one of the teams mentioned that were in on him? With Votto at 1B, that wouldn't make a heck of a lot of sense

Sox Sign Jose Abreu - 6/$68 million
QUOTE (beck72 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 04:38 PM) This all sounds very promising. Just like it did when I first heard Abreu might be a free agent. Makes too much sense not to be the highest bidder. White Sox have the money, and the big need for a bat like his. Too bad he isn't a lefty bat. But I'll take it. Yeah, at this point, it doesn't matter what side he bats on so long as he's good

Sox Sign Jose Abreu - 6/$68 million
I am guessing 80% to the White Sox 10% to the Astros 10% to the field I just don't think the Sox are going to let this guy get away

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 01:59 PM) Jeff Passan @JeffPassan 18m Former 1st-rounder Aaron Poreda signs minor league deal with Texas. Now healthy after Tommy John, Poreda fastball was up to 97 in a workout. Fine Texas, why don't you just sign all the former White Sox lefties

Sox Sign Jose Abreu - 6/$68 million
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 03:10 PM) Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN 2m The Astros did, in fact, make a hard bid on Abreu while falling short: Heard their bid was between $50 million and $60 million. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 02:51 PM) I think he'll sign with the Sox. I don't think Houston's quite close enough yet to start throwing their money around. They'll offer like 6/$50 or something like that. I'm awesome

Sox Sign Jose Abreu - 6/$68 million
QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 03:06 PM) At this point, it's just a good thing to know there's a legit shot to get this guy. But we still don't know if he's any good at Major League Baseball. There are some people who question this, saying he might be like a .250 30 homer, .800 OPS guy, which is better than your run of the mill 1B but not by much. There have been a lot of reports too that they are juicing the holy bejeezus out of the ball down in Cuba too which is the reason for a lot of these inflated numbers.
