QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 25, 2013 -> 04:40 PM) Bryant and Baez would fit perfectly in to our system, really. Until they bust and Sale goes on to win 14 Cy Youngs on the other side of town

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 25, 2013 -> 02:41 PM) I cant even remember where Edgar Martinez played in the field. 3rd? Yes

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 25, 2013 -> 02:30 PM) Yeah, but we haven't even looked at the defensive part of their games yet..... Best defensive DH of all time is Rafael Palmeiro.

This is relevant to our previous discussion http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/mike-mathen...usly-slow-hook/ In other words, Ozzie was not smart to keep his starters out that long, he was lucky they were pitching as well as they were

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 25, 2013 -> 11:20 AM) Apparently Arkham Origins isn't very great. That is depressing. Madden is still awesome

QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 25, 2013 -> 11:16 AM) I kinda doubt that they do. They may be talking about said deal, but that's probably just the starting point. Not to "downgrade" bucket as a source but I'm curious if Rock is hearing some of the same chatter. I'm sure there are a lot of things being discussed. The idea that the Sox are only discussing this one deal amongst their entire front office is silly. What's more likely is that the Sox are looking at this type of deal if they are to deal Quintana. Regardless of any of that, we won't hear about it until November anyways.

Sox hire Todd Steverson as their new hitting coach

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 25, 2013 -> 10:25 AM) I am reading his quotes and he appears to be saying the exact same things Manto was saying. Even mentioning going out of the zone once in a while. As far as swinging at strikes, I don't think there is a hitting coach who doesn't preach that. The fact is, the fewer strikes you have on you, the more selective you can be. I think everyone knows that from when they started playing Little League. They obviously did not feel Manto was doing it the right way though, would you agree? And they feel Steverson will. That's why the change has been made. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 25, 2013 -> 10:00 AM) Was watching Wacha and Martinez last night...what the heck were the Cards supposedly offering us at the deadline? I remember one rumored deal that was Alexei for Martinez, and I believe some others involving Wacha... I think that's what people wanted. Supposedly the Sox offered Ramirez for Martinez, but St. Louis turned it down.

Sox hire Todd Steverson as their new hitting coach

I like it and like the mentality that he brings. Swing aggressively at pitches in the zone, and don't swing at pitches out of the zone. You can't ask a guy to do any more than that. -
QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 25, 2013 -> 08:12 AM) It still blows my mind that so many people, including the White Sox themselves, consider Hawkins to be the #1 prospect. He has incredible bat speed, has fantastic speed, an incredibly strong arm, and he can hit the ball 500 feet. As of this moment, his mechanics at the plate are absolutely brutal. The Sox have not been good about getting that kind of stuff corrected, but if they can quiet those down, we are talking about a guy that has the talent of a guy like Giancarlo Stanton.

So Edgar does still have it

That is so much better than turquoise and ocean blue.

That face he makes looks like he smelled a really bad fart

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 24, 2013 -> 04:29 PM) I like Ozzie Guillen. Maybe we need an infield coach? I would think so after last year No

The good news is we figured it out. The bad news is that there's a potato growing in your ear. Now, if you'd like, we can offer gardening tips and recipes for your potato once it's fully grown, but at this point, we can no longer remove it from the ear canal.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 24, 2013 -> 03:57 PM) Hmmm ... Ozzie has the biggest mouth in the world. Ozzie is at World Series. Reporters ask; Ozzie answers. He'll do a story a day if the media wants to make him a story. Who's he gonna turn down? Nobody. Can somebody give me play by play? Any matchups where various managers would start to play the lefty/righty game even with workable pitch counts? There was never any need. Like I said, Buehrle was cruising in game 2. The Angels couldn't get squat off of him. I forget the exact scores, but the Sox won the next 3 5-2, 8-3, and 6-3 I think? And those guys never really got into trouble late in the game. Why would you need to take them out?
-
The one great thing Ozzie did that year was inserting Jenks into the closer's role almost immediately upon being called up. That was ballsy and it paid off big time.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 24, 2013 -> 03:48 PM) Do you remember HOW DEEP those Sox starters went? Managers don't have the balls to do that and even in 2005 there was situational lefty-righty crap going on all the time. In game 2, Mark Buehrle threw 99 pitches in 9 innings. He was going back out for a 10th if necessary. He was incredibly efficient. In game 3, Garland threw 118 pitches in 9 innings. That's perfectly within reason, especially when he was pitching so well. In game 4, Garcia threw 116 pitches in 9 innings. Again, same story as Garland. In game 5, Contreras threw 114 pitches in 9 innings. When the guys are pitching as well as they are, it's not ridiculous to just keep them out there. It IS ridiculous to suggest that it's ground breaking to let them pitch that deep.
-
Did you know that if it weren't for Ozzie Guillen believing and praying and swearing, Paul Konerko would not have hit that grand slam in game 2?
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 24, 2013 -> 03:13 PM) He basically revolutionized big-game baseball, or should have revolutionized it, in his letting the starters do their thing so deep into games the whole way. Aside from that, he engineered a program that allowed his players to believe they could beat all those good AL teams en route to the Big Dance where we took care of a good but not great Houston club. He put a team on the field golden with the glove that amazed me with its efficient, professional, incredible baseball. That kind of a run thru the postseason??? Remarkable. It's belief, baby!! I've used hyperbole before, but I think I am serious this time when I say that this is the most ridiculous post I have ever read on this board.

Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson

It'd be tampering if he were talking with the White Sox right now -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Oct 23, 2013 -> 11:02 PM) When will this be confirmed by the Sox? That Scott Merkin has confirmed it is the same exact thing

QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Oct 23, 2013 -> 04:56 PM) My bad, he Loaiza'd. He had a great April and a s***ty rest of the year Ehh, more accurate

QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Oct 23, 2013 -> 03:57 PM) Looks like Granderson's a goner in NY as they have a vast interest in Shin-Soo Choo . I don't think that means he's a goner. It really depends on whether or not they make him a qualifying offer, as I genuinely don't envision a lot of teams having interest in him if they have to give up a 1st rounder. They could easily run with an outfield of Granderson-Gardner-Choo with Soriano DHing and Wells off the bench as the 4th outfielder. That said, there are a lot of teams interested in Choo. They won't necessarily get him in today's environment.
