QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 11:06 AM) Colin Cowherd is easily the most annoying ESPN talking head and that's saying something. There's no way he's worse than Skip I should clarify - I think Cowherd is just awful. If you told me I had to watch Skip for 2 hours or Cowherd for 8, I'd pick Cowherd.

I'm playing Boldin, matchup be damned. Kaepernick was OK last year in that matchup even though the 49ers got killed. -
The 1998 White Sox finished 80-82 despite giving up 32 more runs than anyone else in the league. 12 of 20 pitchers - no matter the number of plate appearances - finished with an ERA above 5, every member of the opening day rotation finished with an ERA of 5.10 or above, and our old friend Jamie Navarro threw 172 innings and put up an ERA of 6.36. If that team had 2 good starters - and I am talking 4.50 ERA good here - they are probably a playoff team. And, to be fair, they did go 45-31 in the second half, and it's not as if Belle hadn't played on winning teams before.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 10:17 AM) That is correct, If the draft picks were not slotted now nothing would of changed draft wise. #1) You don't know that #2) They are, so who cares?

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 07:31 PM) Is there a stat that shows DP's by position in the batting order ? I swear our 3 hitter's must lead the league. I saw you guys had a discussion on this, but B-R has these numbers widely available under team batting splits. Sox #3 hitters have hit in to 17 DPs. That's actually fewer than #2 hitters, who have hit into 20 DPs. And #5 hitters have hit into 19 DPs. It may be up lately, but Dunn was hitting 3rd for a large portion of the year and, slow as he is, he just does not ground into many double plays due to the TTO threat he is. Consider this: Adam Dunn has hit into fewer double plays this year (2) than Avisail Garcia has with the White Sox (3).

That 2000 season would look good in 2013, but his OPS+ was 109 and his wRC+ was 104. Frankly, it was barely above average. It's impressive he did it with a banged up hip, but it was still barely above average.

And Mathews is a monster 3rd round back too. --- I did have the #1 priority and decided Thomas was more valuable to me than a potential PPR monster in Edelman given my options were Sudfeld and Olsen at TE and I have Jordy, Garcon, Boldin, and Josh Gordon coming off suspension next week as receivers, as well as Kendall Wright as my WR5. -
QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 10:48 PM) FWIW, this thread is presenting QBR in a far more simplistic way than it is really calculated Yes, but there is still extreme bias in the statistic, and frankly, much of it does have to do with when QBs throw. They are essentially saying that a 25 yard pass setting up 1st and goal at the 2 with 6:32 in the 1st quarter is not as valuable as a 10 yard pass for a first down at your own 43 with 1:00 in the 4th quarter because the 10 yard pass is a first down and gets you "closer" to the end of the game.

I think you guys are crazy if you don't pick up Pryor when he's available. I think he can put up Tebow-esque fantasy numbers all day, which means he could essentially be a top 10 QB in the league. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 03:51 PM) I guess we will find out, but I think Williams worked closely with Hahn and so he had to know his thoughts on the matter and I would be shocked if he didn't weigh them fairly heavily. At the same time, I think Kenny realized the position the org was in between 2003-forward and that a postseason spot really was for the taking many of those years. He went and made some trades and ended up with a WS winner in '05 which, I am sure in his mind, validated his process. Even when Detroit resurrected their ballclub he still managed to put together teams that could compete with them, even as recently as last season. The temptation to grab that postseason spot, rather than refocus on "development" was too great for him to resist. Now though, with Detroit, Cleveland, KC, and eventually Minnesota showing a lot more organizational strength moving forward, I think that temptation has subsided enough to where it is much easier to refocus our efforts on putting together a new core, where a focus on developing young players obviously plays a much larger role. I think much of that has to do with Williams' competitive drive. This isn't to say that Hahn isn't competitive or doesn't want to win, but I think Williams wanted to win every single year, whereas Hahn is more of a bigger picture guy. There were several years where the Sox really should have been rebuilding and tearing down and instead they built it back up. Hahn, while he hasn't gone full rebuild, did deal off quite a few big pieces this season. Williams never really dealt that many pieces at one time. That's more of what I was getting at, which I think we are kind of getting at. Williams did seem to indicate he was close to going in this direction after 2010, but again, I think this transitional phase between GMs has always been the goal of the Sox. Now, that part is just my general belief and I have no proof of that whatsoever.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 03:40 PM) I've got to fill 3 spots from 4 potential options: 1 RB spot, 1 WR spot, and 1 flex spot...the options are David Wilson, DeAngelo Williams, Julian Edelman and Mike Wallace. I am thinking I will give Wilson another chance here, and so then the options become Williams, Wallace and Edelman for the remaining 2 spots. With Amendola potentially out, I am guessing I will play Edelman for sure, so then that leaves me with Williams or Wallace in the flex spot? I think Williams is going to be the safer play there (playing the Bills who, while improved on D, are still the Bills on D). Wallace is going up against a tough Indy D, but he may be motivated to play. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 03:23 PM) BIG time. Just listening to him is such a change of pace, it's wonderful. While Williams (and his team) had a great eye for picking out diamonds in the rough and frankly building a team that should compete, I don't feel as though he had a great grasp of the entire process. It just seems that, from top to bottom, Hahn understands how a team should be built and he's going about it the right way at this point and what he lacks in baseball acumen he's replacing with scouts that know what good ball players look like.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 03:21 PM) Where does that put Taveras and Jay? Alexei for Jay+? Jay in CF and leading off with ADA in LF batting 6th or 7th (like a poster said today) doesn't sound too shabby to me. Try and trade Tank for something useful. There's no way I'd want Jay. He probably steps into a 4th outfielder's role with the Cardinals after this season. He's an OK player with a decent stick, but he doesn't hit for power, doesn't have real good speed, and he's not that strong of a defender. He's also a free agent after 2015 and turns 29 next year. Essentially, he's Alejandro De Aza...with worse power and speed. Regardless, I tend to doubt the Cards would have interest in Alexei. He seems to be a good fit, but they have so many pieces everywhere else that I think they can get away with a bit of a hole at SS as long as they can get a good glove.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 03:17 PM) Where are you in the waiver order? I was pretty surprised Edelman was not expected to be much of a contributor in NE's offense this year, considering there TE issues and the departure of just about everyone else that has been there in the last few seasons. I'm almost positive I'm top 2, but haven't had a chance to check, and I really should be #1 considering I had the #12 pick in the draft and didn't pick anybody up before the season, but we reset the waiver wire every week which, whatever. Oh, and the guy ahead of me never seems to care until half way through the season, he's a huge Broncos fan, and makes moves a lot of times based on that. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 03:05 PM) The only chance the Bulls have is if LeBron gets hurt. Considering his history, I wouldn't bet my future on that. With the way the Bulls have been productive under this regime in 1st round picks, I have no problem moving Deng for a middle of the first round draft pick or better. Either that or someone they can target with longer under team control they think they can rescue and develop. To me, they showed they were vulnerable last year in both the ECF and the Finals. Maybe you don't beat them, but I think it's absolutely worth the chance.

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 03:06 PM) Anyone else think Julian Edelman is a great play for Thursday? Amendola is doubtful and should be out. Kenbrell Thompkins was terrible on Sunday. Sudfeld had 1 reception on Sunday. Shane Vereen is out. Edelman did have two TDs on Sunday as well. I think Edelman could have 7-12 receptions Sunday. PPR he's a must play and if he finds the end zone once he's worth it in any format. I'm awaiting waivers on him in two leagues already. Sudfeld had 0 receptions on Sunday. Yes, Edelman is a great choice for Sunday, and, assuming I am able to get one of him or Thomas, I am going to play either him or Thomas. If I can get Edelman, I am also going to have Nelson, Garcon, Boldin, and Gordon -
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 03:09 PM) I agree. I wouldn't mind seeing Leury platoon with Gillaspie as well as being super-utility. The Cardinals have no use for both Craig and Adams and could use Alexei. Would love to see something get done there. Craig will likely move to the outfield next year with Beltran moving on.

Maybe it's just me, but Hahn seems to be a refreshing change from Williams in his openness towards discussing this aspect of the team.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 02:55 PM) If he is wanting to test free agency, I'd be selling him to the highest bidder before the season starts. I think the Bulls have an outside chance at a championship and they might be the favorite if one of the big three were to get hurt. You aren't going to get anything of significance for Deng (a non-lotto 1st? That's worth about nothing). May as well ride the season out.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 02:52 PM) While Deng's a good player, I think he's replaceable. I just don't know if the Bulls will have any cap room to sign a decent replacement. Gotta free some room up in 2015, no?

Saw a blurb on Rotoworld that said he's going to test free agency

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 01:45 PM) Anyone in leagues where you get a budget to spend on FA's instead of a waiver wire? Its newer to me and Im not sure how much to bid on a player. Im in a league where I absolutely NEED to get Joique Bell, we get 2500 to use on bids. What is a safe number that should guarantee I get him? Its a 12 team league and my RB2 is Ivory so if I dont get him I will probably be in trouble. I currently have a bid of 805 but I dont know if thats way too high, way too low or just about right. Seems too high, but if you absolutely 100% need him, then bid what you think will get him. Just be aware that you're only left with like 1700 then for the rest of the year. Badger, I was going to claim Brown, but Julius Thomas and Julian Edelman were available in my league. I have claims in on them for #1 and #2. If I get both, I think I'll live without Ronnie Brown. And, as far as I'm aware, I'm guaranteed to get one of them. -

QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 12:10 PM) Terrel Pryor gonna be worth a roster spot? Remember I'm rockin the "awful" Cutler/Dalton tandem at QB. Thinking I might add Pryor (Dropping Redman with Bell already on my roster) and let it play out till I'm forced to make a move. Neither Cutler nor Dalton gave me any reason to cut either for Pryor. Yes. He should probably start over those two
