Fantasy football advice thread

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 09:52 AM) It does a better job of creating parity in player values vs everyone just wanting to scoop up rbs in rounds 1 and 2. Adding PPR does that too and actually increases the number of players that actually have value, as opposed to it being like the top 20 running backs, the top 12 quarterbacks, and then like 12-20 receivers because everyone is the same after that. It also takes value away from big play threats like Vincent Jackson, but they're still valuable enough and, if a guy is actually involved in the passing game instead of one lucky play, he is rewarded more than said lucky guy. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 09:29 AM) Yeah, but you're still comparing those guys to players at the same position - so waiting on a matt stafford to get stud RBs still makes sense. I won't argue that, but it falls off pretty precipitously after that. There's value in those 6-10 guys, but it's a lot different than it is in a standard league. Like I said, if you miss out on Stafford - with either him or Luck probably the last amongst that final group - you are counting on improvements as a passer from your read option types, or you are banking on Roethlisberger or Eli. And, if you're smart, you can get guys like Wilson, Miller, and Lacy in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. -

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 09:09 AM) I think you have to go back to that "points above replacement" concept, though. Brady, Brees, Manning and Rodgers will all put up those monster numbers, lets say right around 420 points. What about QB's 5-10? If those guys are still going to put up numbers somewhat close to that, then you need to look at the positions where the difference between the first, second and third tiers are greater. FWIW both of the leagues I'm in are 6pts/all TD's, and it was still RB/WR-heavy in the 1st and 2nd rounds. QBs 5-10 include guys like RGIII, Wilson, Newton, and Kaepernick. Their value goes way, way down because their numbers have so heavily reliant upon them running the ball (although maybe not Griffin as much this year). At that point, you are considering guys like Eli and Roethlisberger in that area too. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 08:44 AM) I don't want to live in a world where all touchdowns aren't equal. If you do that, you begin to get to the point where not taking a guy like Brady, Brees, Manning, or Rodgers in the first becomes silly because they are getting an additional 80 points compared to standard leagues. You are talking about 240 points from touchdowns alone, minus 20 points for the 10 interceptions he throws. Add the additional 160 points you get from the passing yards (4000, minimum, for ~160 points) and you're at 380. Then you can throw in 2-6 (we'll use 4) rushing touchdowns and 160 rushing yards (which is a rather small amount for some of these guys) and you are looking at 420 points, which is almost 90 points more than Adrian Peterson got last year in standard leagues. Cut that to 4 points per touchdown, and the world makes sense again. Passing touchdowns are not equal to receiving or rushing touchdowns, which is why we track them separately. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 08:27 AM) I don't know a ton, but talking to a Cubs guy a while back, they use their AZL team as a lower level rookie team, about how the Sox use Bristol. Someone else can maybe see what info there is out there on the league as a whole, but my guess from off hand conversation is that it is slightly below the Appy/Pioneer level. I think, generally speaking, these teams are leveled to whatever the teams want them to be, but about Bristol or Great Falls for sure. You see both Caucasian and Latino names spread throughout the leaderboards, but young players abound for sure. I think, just generally speaking, it's a transitional league. What's funny is that the Sox had an AZL team before - from 1998-2002. It's funny because that's when their system was bonkers good. I think this allows us some more insight into Hahn's philosophy.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 3, 2013 -> 07:24 PM) No they're not, she "completes" you. God you know me so well. I knew I should move out to Seattle so that I can shortly thereafter move out to San Francisco to reconnect with my ex of 3 years. That's why I've been in such a dry spell. You're perfect, thank you, I'll pack my things at once.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 3, 2013 -> 11:33 PM) Hector wants to pitch tomorrow. The broseph is from the area, he has to feel snubbed. I'm sure he is going to want to start the rest of the way. It's just not smart to cater to what players want though. He threw 85 innings last year, and while that is fewer than the 127.1 he threw in 2011 (by a lot), it's just smarter to limit him if you can. Get him, say, 3 or maybe 4 more starts the rest of the way and he should end up around 150-155 on the year, which is a perfect stepping stone into next year. In the meantime, you let him know that he can spend time with family and friends this weekend and not to worry about starting a game, just to be at the stadium at 11 or 1 or whenever. He'll have plenty of starts in the New York area over the next 10 years or so.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 3, 2013 -> 04:17 PM) I find it a little odd that this went on for a year. But I suppose they didn't have a Plan B behind him. And I tend to agree, but we'll see how he can develop defensively. Plus I'm sure they thought he could rehab it and play through it, and that obviously was not the case.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Sep 3, 2013 -> 02:17 PM) uh oh, we have a one page game thread, and it wasn't moved to the archive section the day after. Labor Day hangover...I'll get it done now

Frankly, I don't care if Flowers is back or not, but the idea of just cutting him does not make a lot of sense. If nothing else, trading him for another busted prospect makes a lot more sense. 4 years ago, he was the #60 prospect in all of baseball. He's a talented player. And, on top of that, Phegley has been a worse hitter than Flowers.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 3, 2013 -> 10:31 AM) There's 0 reason for him to be on the opening day roster next season. Except for the clear need for a backup catcher.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 3, 2013 -> 09:57 AM) LMAO greg, you are trolling again bro. The season is ovaaaah! You're going take your licks playing youth and that's the bottom line. I wonder if Ozzie was managing this team if you would make the same comment. Thinks that make you go hmm... Well Ozzie obviously wouldn't put up with it, and if he did, well he doesn't take the field anymore, it's the players' fault.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 3, 2013 -> 09:23 AM) thanks! Just do something you like doing in solitude and have a few beers while you do it. You'll feel better.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 3, 2013 -> 08:28 AM) so the girl I was writing about oh... end of last year... we got back together in like february? and broke up for realsies in June - but it was literally the most amicable thing I've ever experienced, and I was immediately over it. Like, we were both out of town, got back, texted her to call, and then we literally finished each others' sentence that it wasn't working. ok cool, all well and good. now 3 months later I'm suddenly missing her a lot kind of out of nowhere and I'm doing all the "romanticizing the relationship" bs in my head. just need you guys to tell me that I'm only doing it because I'm bored and haven't really gotten myself out there in the dating scene again. You're only doing is because you're bored and you haven't really gotten yourself out there in the dating scene again

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 30, 2013 -> 05:12 PM) I credit you for win. God I get so f***ing jacked for fantasy drafts. Back in the day, I would use 2 different Yahoo accounts just to join 8 fantasy baseball leagues for the draft alone, and then I'd never do anything during the season. -
QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Aug 30, 2013 -> 03:34 PM) Remember when Phil Rogers thought Kubel would be a nice return for Jake Peavy? Yeah... This is why we safely ignore anything and everything Phil Rogers says, because most of what he does is just spew BS

QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 08:41 PM) Depends on if you're talking in this country or internationally. FIFA outsells all other EA Sports franchises combined each year. This is true, but the US is pretty much the only country where soccer isn't the feature and primary sport too. So yes, I was implying in the US, even if I said around the world.

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 30, 2013 -> 02:41 PM) Even in a PPR scoring league? Yes, the Bills QB situation is that ugly right now. If Manuel were starting, I'd have different feelings on this. -

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 30, 2013 -> 02:35 PM) ? Anyone? Bills are going to be behind and throwing, but if Tuel is anything more than disasterous, it will come as a pleasant surprise, and Marrone is going to run the ball a lot. I'd go with Bradshaw, personally, but I'd give it a week to make sure that everyone is healthy. Your decision may end up being made for you. -
