  1. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 12:19 PM) It's been stated that the dip in his velocity is intentional. He feels he has better movement and command if he takes a mile or two per hour off his pitches. Watching him pitch this year, I believe it to be the right approach. If that's the case, I agree too. I hated his fastball last year. Unless you can bring it at 97 or above consistently, you are better off going with a 2 seamer.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 12:10 PM) That happens when you pitch 6 out of 7 days. His velocity is down 1.7 MPH from last year. I don't know what it means, because he definitely looks perfectly healthy to me.
  3. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 11:57 AM) Just for fun, I'd like to see Sale through one behind him (with no intent of hitting him) if AJ were up with no one on and two outs. Reed already hit Pierzynski once. I don'tt hink it would be fun for either party.
  4. Brown might vulture some TDs, that's about it. If it's PPR, Broyles will have value too.
  5. I think the odds of AJ homering tonight are 1:1. Thomas homered, Crede homered. That's all I got, but I still think AJ's going yard.
  6. He deserves a standing O. It's about the only place he'll ever go in all of the majors and receive an ovation of any type.
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 10:33 AM) Actually, gambling on baseball outside of the state of Nevada was illegal at that time as well. So basically Rose is f***ed no matter how you slice it
  8. I would do that trade Row. The difference in value between 24 and 32 is actually a lot bigger than 49 and 64 (or whatever that was).
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 01:37 AM) Somebody on here called him a POS human being and I was responding to that. I mean people have to think before they write some of this stuff. This is just a sport. Not life and death. Players and managers come and go. Ozzie isn't the only guy in the White Sox organization with a HUGE ego. This is "just a sport" says the guy who gets visibly upset when the White Sox lose during a soon to be 90 loss season. Yes I do. He's an alcoholic, bigoted asshole who supports dictators, has the nerve to negotiate a contract with a different employer while under contract, and shows such a lack of respect for his employers and himself that he makes his bench coach do warm up drills while he plays on his IPad in his office before games.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 09:19 AM) Why are we assuming Rose wasn't using some form of PEDs? Wasn't the use of amphetamines/coke pretty common back then? LOL, forgot about that http://www.foxnews.com/wires/2006Oct02/0,4...tterman,00.html
  11. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 08:31 AM) Screw it, pitch him again They should KRod him.
  12. QUOTE (TheBigHurtIsBack @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 08:41 AM) Yes, it is. I disagree if the premise here is that your productivity on the baseball field as a player is not the be-all, end-all reasoning behind being in the hall of fame. Again, sports stars are not automatically role models. Just because they base their voting on something doesn't mean I have to agree with it. Period. Again, simply being written as a rule or law does not automatically make it right, or sensible. Whether or not the premise is indeed that is for another discussion, but my point stands. In my opinion, the all-time hits leader, who did nothing illegal or physically ability-altering to directly achieve that, should be in the hall of fame. That's my opinion and it's perfectly reasonable. Except, within the rules of baseball, he did do something illegal, so that point does not stand. If I walked into a non-smoking bar smoking a cigarette, I would be told to put it out or face persecution. It doesn't mean I can't smoke anywhere else, I just can't smoke in that bar. To the same degree, Pete Rose could and can gamble all he wants to, he just can't gamble on baseball as a player. Now, if you want to have a philosophical debate on the morals of gambling, you can go ahead and do that.
  13. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 04:37 PM) I like Juan Encarnacion as a realist but hope for a Rios/Magglio hybrid. I really want to hope that Encarnacion is on the lower end of the spectrum, but I can't. That's not to say Encarnacion was a bad player by any stretch, and those numbers would play really well in today's game, but it's not the sexy .850-.900 OPS people want.
  14. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 04:14 PM) Borchard could fly for a guy his size. They're both big guys that are really athletic with some dominant tools. Bouchard flamed out, but it's still not a crazy comparison. A better comparison to current players for Borchard would be Crush Davis.
  15. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 04:09 PM) Not a good idea in my opinion. If L Garcia is anything it might be as a utility player. Just don't see Alexei getting moved. But, I guess anything can happen whether it be now or off season And then 5 years from now when Leury Garcia is putting up a .270/.330/.370 line and playing great defense and about to hit free agency, with Numali Martinez sitting in AAA, trading Leury Garcia will be a bad thing and Numali will only be a utility player too. Change begets change. If the value were there, dealing Ramirez would not be a bad thing.
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 01:16 PM) I'll over analyze and say ALEXEI DEAL IMMINENT. That would be pretty neat. Don't think it's likely though.
  17. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 03:56 PM) I don't see how Borchard is a bad comparison. Because of this QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 03:56 PM) Borchard had more power and hit from both sides while Garcia has a much better hit tool and is probably faster.
  18. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 03:47 PM) If you want to give overwhelming credit to 1 person for winning the World Series, you should thank Don Cooper or Kenny Williams. or Chris Widger
  19. The one great thing Ozzie did during his first 3-5 years on the job was to deflect blame off of the players and onto himself, allowing them to focus solely on baseball. By the end of his tenure, he was doing the exact OPPOSITE of that, blaming the players while exonerating himself while still being a jackass and a poor in game manager. AND THEN he had the nerve to negotiate with the Marlins midseason.
  20. Running backs are recycled all the time though, especially in New England. Ridley might sneeze on Belichick and get benched for 3 weeks while Vereen or Blount tears it up. Martin, Kaepernick, Bryant
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 02:07 PM) Look at the title of the thread. It's bound to be controversial with one outspoken Ozzie supporter still around. Why can't he just be remembered fondly? Anybody who can lead a Chicago baseball team to a WS title is doing something right. Do you realize w/out 05 Chicago remains the laughingstock of baseball? That stuff at the end was inevitable. Managers are hired to be fired/replaced. It was bound to be ugly and the way it went down, Ozzie ended up being the bad guy with fans even though the front office was happy Miami took him off the Sox's hands. Given the overwhelming response of this thread, I think the question is "How can he possibly be remembered fondly?" He's really a POS human being who managed the White Sox during their first World Series title in 88 years. We're all thankful for that.
  22. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 01:24 PM) With the blood of his penis! O Minteroso
