QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 11:19 AM) Makes sense....One last question for week 1....Jay Cutler or Andy Dalton? They're facing each other. Right now I have Jay starting because I don't think Cincy knows what Trestmans offense is gonna look like so I'm expecting a good game out of Jay. Plus Peanut and Jennings still look really solid. You have to go with Cutler, but how did you f*** up so badly that you ended up with Dalton and Cutler as your best two QBs? If it's a 16 team league, then I guess, but jesus, I'd rather have, in no particular order, Griffin, Romo, Rodgers, Stafford, Brees, Ryan, Newton, Kaepernick, Wilson, Brady, Roethlisberger, and P. Manning over him. That's not including high upside and potential fantasy steals in guys like Vick, E. Manning, Palmer, Luck, Flacco, or Rivers. Maybe Dalton or Cutler can improve, but those two are just incredibly mediocre options. -
QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 11:09 AM) I read the article in the Trib this morning and this isn't an exact quote but he said something along the lines of, "A lot of people would be happy to see at me USCF and a lot people would probably hate to see me. I don't know why they would hate to see me though, I had done a lot of great things for them." That pissed me off. I would show apathy, I mean, if I were there. I honestly would not be able to care less. I keep coming back to the ex-gf thing, but that's how I would feel. It's like, "oh cool" or "oh hey, how are you, welp, see ya," or "(say nothing)" or "[smile and nod]"

QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 10:48 AM) The car is probably not worth that much but when I really think about it I think the right thing to do would be is to just get the engine with low miles. Chances are I'm not going to find a car with 66k on it for that price unless it's heavily damaged or has other problems. With my Saturn I already know what it needs so there won't be any hidden problems. Like I said the body is close to perfect and I get great mileage with car.. Maybe it's just the fear of the unknown but I think the new engine is worth it. How many of those 66k are in-town mileage? There's a big difference between 66k driving through and around the Chicago area, idling a lot and 66k driving on the highway with a constant speed and RPM

You couldn't play All-Madden without it, which sucked. And no, they haven't done that at all on the next gen consoles as far as I'm aware. I have '09, '12, and '13, and I've never seen it.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 11:02 AM) Yeah but you are an SC fan. I bet you hate Les Miles and Nick Saban too. I don't have a rooting interest in college football and I think Meyer's a douche -
QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 10:24 AM) Keon Barnum isn't setting the world on fire, but doing what he's doing in low-A at his age and experience level is still pretty impressive In approximately 45 plate appearances in June, Barnum hit .150/.239/.175/.414 with 20 strikeouts. In approximately 46 plate appearances in August, Barnum has hit .350/.435/.550/.985 with 8 strikeouts. Getting some extended work in Arizona in the fall and perhaps a Winter League as well would be good, but those are positive steps. I'm guessing he starts in W-S next year and, with any luck, gets a midseason promotion to AA.

QUOTE (SexiAlexei @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 09:50 AM) You're just trying to be difficult. That's clearly a different issue, one of which is currently allowed and one which isn't. Now, you may not agree with it, but that's how it currently is. Then they need to reword the rule. I would have no problem with this if the NCAA wasn't one of the most hypocritical corporations on the entire face of the planet. True, the players themselves don't have to pay for college, which is awesome, but they still have to pay for their living expenses as well. On top of that, college is more expensive now than it's ever been, yet the NCAA itself showed a $71 million surplus. If you aren't going to pay the athletes that bring in the money, give it back to the students and decrease tuition costs or subsidize educational departments where the country lacks resources or whatever. There are ways they can go about this without coming off like total sleezy, slimy, scumbags. Instead, I think Mark Emmert is doing everything in his power to act exactly LIKE a sleezy, slimy, scumbag. EDIT: Better yet, if you want to keep it all within the athletic realm of collegiate sports, give out more full time scholarships to gymnastics, track and field, baseball, volleyball. I understand football is where like 95% of the money comes in, but these other sports matter too. -
If he can run it up to 92, he can be effective anywhere.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 09:46 AM) I played one game online last night - guy chose redskins (shocker, everybody wants RG3 online, apparently) I won 10-7, it was quite epic. I couldn't do s*** on the ground but Cutty cared and went like 22-27. He, of course, quit when I user-picked his dumbass with Peanut to end it. Somehow, so satisfying. Rage quits are so money.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 09:15 AM) Eh, if you consider an entirely new physics engine, completely revamped running style and moves, brand-new read-option packages, and online modes out the yin yang nothing (among many other tweaks), then yeah, I guess nothing changed this year! MLB the Show has been largely the same game since 09, yet they don't get crushed. When you get games to this level of perfection, it's the tweaks that count. NBA 2k - I mean, I play this game every year. It's not that much different, and I'd say the year with CP3 on the cover (08) was the best-looking and most enjoyable of the group. Compare the changes that go into Madden, there's a f***ton this year, by the way, to the changes in either of the games you mention above, and you'll find them to likely be more. I mean, my God, MLB the Show? It's the same f***ing game every year. I must have been the only one, but I hated the engine. There are other changes you can make without totally revamping the entire thing. Plus they got rid of Gus for Phil and Jim, which made it even worse. Whatever, this is a tired argument. I'm not going to buy Madden this year because I don't want to spend $60 on it. Maybe if/when it comes down in price, I'll consider it (which is the other awesome thing about NBA2K, considering midseason, I bought NBA2K for $30 online)

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 08:56 AM) Jon Heyman @JonHeymanCBS 18m chris sale (10-12) now leads AL pitchers w/ 6.3 bWAR. will be interesting if #killthewin folks trumpet sale for Cy Young Scherzer leads the AL with 5.6 fWAR. Fun stuff here...Tigers pitcher's fWAR in descending order Scherzer - 5.6 Sanchez - 4.9 Fister - 3.9 Verlander - 3.7 You think Leyland has the balls to use Verlander as his #4 starter this postseason? EDIT: BTW, Sale's fWAR is 4.4 and is 6th behind Scherzer, Hernandez, Sanchez, Holland, and Darvish.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 08:57 PM) I haven't touched a Madden game in years. From the idiotic and frustrating QB vision to all the other complicated s*** it's hard to pick up Madden and play. However, as someone who buys FIFA every year and never regrets it I am always amazed by how many game modes and features are in FIFA each year. Sure, the game play slowly progresses and after I put a couple hundred hours into the game I end up getting sick of the things that annoy me and don't want to play it anymore, but there are so many different game modes that game take up your time. I get infuriated by the dumb s*** that happens in a game sometimes, but I put so many hours into the game before I get fed up with it that it's absolutely worth the money every year. I'm not sure if Madden is the same way, but I'm defending another annual EA sports franchise. People will gladly defend The Show or NBA2K year after year because they do cool things to improve the overall experience. Madden just doesn't do anything that creative anymore, and this is the second or third different time that they've tried to bring in old players to hype their product. The Ultimate Team is/was kind of a cool online feature, but after a certain point it's damn near impossible to field a competitive team because your starters are crap compared to other teams'.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 11:27 PM) Unfortunately I can't cite fWAR, because they dont show team splits if a player was traded midseason, so I have to use bWAR for that, and according to bWAR he is actually a -0.1 with the Sox coming in to tonight's game. Its possible that will swing to a 0.0 after tonights big game, but like I said, he is losing a lot of value because of how much these metrics hate his defense. I mean, obviously its been a very small sample size, but they have him as probably the worst CF in baseball during his short time out there. Something like a -55 IIRC. Sure they do, you just have to click "Partial Seasons." He was at -0.3 with the Tigers and 0.3 with the White Sox. Avisail has been good, though you'd like to see him cut his strikeouts below 20%. I think that is just something that will happen with time. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 12:10 AM) Garcia's 1st White Sox HR comes on the 23rd anniversary of the Big Hurt's 1st HR as a White Sox. Avisail was not alive when Frank did that.

QUOTE (SexiAlexei @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 05:00 PM) If he didn't know then he's dumber than I can imagine. He's signing hundreds of pieces of memorabilia for a known memorabilia salesman, or whatever their correct term is. And there is 0 chance he didn't get paid for it. I don't believe a kid would spend all that time signing all that crap just out of the goodness of his heart. But I guess it's what you can prove. The way the rule is worded leaves for a lot of different interpretations. Texas A&M is selling photos of him while announcing the suspension. He knows about that, so why shouldn't he be suspended further? -

QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 12:22 AM) Are Isaac Redman and Le'veon Bell worth picking up over Fred Jackson and Andre Brown? I've got 2 flex positions in my league and could probably use Redman while he's starting while also grabbing Bell to handcuff. Right now I have Sudfeld as my 2nd flex. Oh god yes. Jackson is strictly a handcuff, and he's lost a step. He's not worth rostering unless you have Spiller. Brown is going to be a touchdown vulture, but that's risky business. I'm not a fan of Redman, but he's going to get carries, and Bell has a chance to win leagues this year. -

That's about as bogus as it gets. Think about that...he is supposed to stop people from making money off of him, EVEN IF HE DOESN'T KNOW THEY ARE MAKING MONEY OFF OF HIM -
There's nothing wrong with one night stands. They might not be classy, but s***, sometimes you have needs, and she has needs, and you can help each other out. Just be careful. Anyways, I think that's what any true gentleman would do in that situation. There are assholes out there who would make the girl come and clean it up the next day.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 02:43 PM) If the SEC dished out real punishments, they wouldn't win the national championship every year. Of course their alumni also probably wouldn't go on to commit multiple homicides, but then by that point it's no longer their problem. The University of Colorado was in the Big 12 at that point still. Oh, and University of Miami (FL) was in the Big East. -

What's stupid about Madden is that they don't even push any limits anymore. Last year's game was like "oh let's make you level up players individually" which jesus that doesn't make me want to play, that makes me want to shoot myself. Or there were whatever other modes you could play in, as just the one player or whatever. Perhaps allowing you to create custom plays, or multiple hot route sets, or multiple audibles, or making defenses respect the pump fake more. OR BRINGING GUS JOHNSON BACK. I will say, last year's engine was quite a bit different than previous iterations. I hated it.

QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 02:22 PM) I had the #8 pick in a 12 team league, and I went against everything I believed in when I took WRs in rounds 2 (Dez Bryant) and 3 (Demaryius Thomas) because I didn't like the quality of RB left on the board when I was drafting. Now I'm a little short on stud RBs, but I feel like I have some elite talent at WR. Also, if you don't get one of the top 3-4 TEs, you're going to be stuck with garbage at that position. Here's my team: Andrew Luck - QB1 Doug Martin - RB1 David Wilson - RB2 Dez Bryant - WR1 Demaryius Thomas - WR2 James Jones - Flex Brandon Pettigrew - TE Bench Daryl Richardson Tayvon Austin Lance Moore Ben Tate Bernard Pierce Justin Blackmon Alex Smith I'd want a little more assurance at QB, but I love this kind of team. If Rice/Foster gets hurt, you have monstrous value. I also love David Wilson this year, plus it's match up friendly with your flex too.
