  1. I'm really not that concerned about him punching the cooler. The likely worst case scenario in that situation is a deep bruise, and likely it's just going to be scraped or sore. Have you guys ever punched a cooler? Or accidentally fallen on one? It's incredibly soft plastic. If he were punching the bench or the wall I would be much, much more worried about this.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2013 -> 01:15 PM) Geez. Ballplayers are sick if this is true. Some apparently will do anything to get the edge. I know the season is long, really long, and they get tired but just play the game the best you can drug-free. My gawd. Then you must think college students are sick too because there are plenty of them that will fake ADHD to get an adderall prescription so that they can study all night.
  3. There are times that I get texts from people I want to hang out with and I see the text, have every intention of getting back to it later on because I'm busy or something, and then completely space it off. That may or may not be the case here. Shooting a quick text might not be a bad idea. She did just get back from vacation and may have just wanted some time to put stuff away and get the post-vacation relaxation and then, like what happens, spaced it off.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 27, 2013 -> 10:52 AM) So I was reading something last night that pointed out that 1 in 6 American men 7-foot taller or more between the ages of 20 and 40 is in the NBA. I found that pretty incredible. Additionally, I read that NBA players are not only disproportionately tall, but they have disproportionately long wingspans. This is just as important, if not more important, than their height. In regards to offensive rebounding, longer wingspans are more important than height, whereas for defensive rebounding, height is slightly more important. Black players tend to have longer wingspans than white players, although the average white player in the NBA is taller than the average black player. That's actually crazy stuff. I'm guessing NBA teams figure that, so long as we can get the ball into you, you should be able to make it. Regarding the final white/black point, I wonder how much of that is actually due to the fact that shorter black people make it in the NBA far more often than shorter white people do. Consider that the highest a true white person scored was David Lee at like 18.5 per game (Robin Lopez is part Cuban) and that the most a white person scored under the height of 6'10 was 15.9 by Chandler Parsons (Klay Thompson is part Bahamian). Blacks, by and large, are far more athletic than white people are and, as such, are attracted far more to sports like football and basketball. White people play too, but don't see around as long due in large part to that athleticism, or lack thereof in their case.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 27, 2013 -> 10:41 AM) You know, Mark has never lost his childlike qualities. Including not throwing very hard
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 27, 2013 -> 09:35 AM) Hey, I dreamt Derrick Rose came back last night. It was cool. I wonder if he'll play this year. Only God knows. He'll have to be 110% before anything else though.
  7. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 27, 2013 -> 09:28 AM) I watched that play with Kevin Kolb and I can't even tell if he hit his head. A knee just barely clips the back of it at the end. He played for a little after that but he was apparently showing extreme concussion like symptoms in the lockerroom afterwards.
  8. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 27, 2013 -> 08:46 AM) I didn't have a problem with it, except that he was using his left hand. C'mon man, use a bat or something. I think you're more likely to damage your wrist, arm, or shoulder using a bat compared to using your fist like he did. He's just more likely break his hand punching with it.
  9. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 26, 2013 -> 05:49 PM) Wite, what the hell is a Jeff Tuel? An NFL record breaker, as in the first undrafted QB in the history of the league during the draft era to start week 1. Seriously, I don't think there's been a franchise more snakebitten than the Bills over the last 15 years. They finally make a good hire with their coaching staff, have an elite running back, make legitimate, serious changes to the quraterback, have a franchise defensive back who was drafted last year, and what happens? The running back suffers a minor injury and sees his step-grandfather kill 3 before committing suicide, see the franchise QB miss two weeks of his first preseason due to a knee scope, see the other QB likely suffer a career ending concussion during his 2nd and the team's 3rd preseason game, and then have the franchise DB break his wrist and be out 6-8 weeks. At least the coaching staff is still there.
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Aug 26, 2013 -> 07:46 PM) This is awesome
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2013 -> 02:07 AM) If he does it again, though, he needs to be fined. You can't be banging your left hand like that on the hard surface. Insane. This will make masturbation incredibly difficult, unless he is a fan of the stranger. Oh who am I kidding, he probably hasn't masturbated in years
  12. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 26, 2013 -> 08:46 PM) He's a product of the pussified everyone gets a trophy generation. Athletes have to throw fits because it gives the fan an impression they care. This is just wrong. If anything, we see athletes who freak out and throw "fits" and think that maybe they should settle down a little bit. Everyone has bad days in any profession, and those that can't keep their composure during those times and freak out are generally considered psychos, not "athletes who care."
  13. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 26, 2013 -> 09:14 PM) I see what you did there
  14. Represents team colors. If the Sox were colored in both black and white, you could not see them on the board. However, the Astros get black, blue, and "orange" and the Sox use them in a colorful display to brighten up the dugout.
  15. QUOTE (KG#1 @ Aug 26, 2013 -> 02:21 PM) My money is on that Mattingly is on steriods now, only reason to explain him all of a sudden being a better manager. But agreed, manager is overrated to a point. Like its been said, managing those personalities is the hardest I'm sure. This, more than anything else, is why you can't hire some random Joe from the street and stick him at manager. No player is going to respect him.
  16. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/06/cubs...asel-puig-.html With the recent success of Cubans, he is going to get an incredibly lucrative deal. I'm not saying they won't, but speculating about whether they will sign him this early is the process is silly.
  17. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 25, 2013 -> 10:03 PM) I think the Sox will end up landing this guy. With the previous successful relationships to guys like Contreras, Ramirez and Viciedo- Abreu can truly find comfort with the Sox. This guy is exactly what this team desperately needs! If they can get this dude on board- we have our 1b of the future! They can then focus in on improving the 3b, C and CF positions moving forward. The Sox have been wildly successful in recent attempts, including the signings of Chapman, Cespedes, and Puig too.
  18. Those of you talking about LaRussa do realize that he turns 69 years old on October 4th of this year, right? He's not going to manage a team again. I can see him joining an organization in a counseling or ambassador role, but never as a full time manager again.
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 09:57 PM) An NL team won't take him. The only AL contender that could really use him is Texas, but they already splurged for Garza & Rios. Baltimore still could too
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 04:44 PM) He sure loves good defense catchers who can't hit .200. JEFF MATHIS, COME ON DOWN
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 04:10 PM) I actually am with Greg on this one. I don't agree that AJ would make such a difference that it would matter, but I think he brought an attitude to the team that was sorely lacking this year. Who knows...maybe he keeps us in the game more early on in the season and we cure this fundamentals and s***ty defense that ailed us all year a lot sooner. It's pretty obvious that this team is capable of being a lot better than they have been this year, and having someone to keep some of these passive guys in the game a bit more may have made a much bigger difference than simply AJ's WAR alone. Again, not saying it would be enough to make a difference, but I certainly can't say with any degree of certainty that we wouldn't be much closer to .500 this year than we currently are had we had someone in the clubhouse that keeps people on their toes like AJ. To me, that was always AJ's greatest contribution to the ballclubs he was on in Chicago. Having a true leader and field general is nice, but they can only do so much. And, having seen that both Flowers and Phegley appear unable to handle the position full time (at least for now), you know that you will probably need to acquire a catcher somehow. With everything that's gone on with this team, suggesting they'd be better with AJ and perhaps even closer to .500 is not far fetched. Suggesting that the Sox would be in contention with AJ is ridiculous. Knowing that, and all the information we have, it is 100% for the absolute best that Pierzynski was not brought back for this season.
  22. He is a good manager, but there are things about him that would drive a lot of us crazy too. Still, he is one of the few guys I'd be ok with. I don't see Ventura leaving though under any circumstance.
  23. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 04:00 PM) Dude Troncoso is pretty good
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 03:57 PM) Intangibles count. Also, one less black hole in the lineup. I can argue we'd be in the race if he was still here. Not sure I want to argue that yet, but I could argue that. /double facepalm
  25. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 02:45 PM) I'm going to drink beer and watch part of the game maybe and whatever. This sounds fairly Riosian.
