  1. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 30, 2013 -> 12:14 PM) Bowe possibly but claiming that about Garcon is going way out on a limb. The guy is a walking injury. Anyone drafting him would be lucky to get 8-10 games out of him. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 30, 2013 -> 12:14 PM) You are f***ing crazy if you think Dwayne Bowe is going to be better than White or Fitzgerald. He still has a noodle armed QB except that Smith throws even MORE in between the numbers. Bowe is a vertical, middle to deep threat wide out. If Bowe has the same eyar as last, it would be a good year. I love these two posts back to back. I think, bottomline, if you are counting on Garcon or Bowe to be anything more than a WR3 - aka flex play - you are in trouble
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 30, 2013 -> 12:00 PM) Dwayne Bowe and Pierre Garcon, drafted much later, will be better than either this season. If the game were about drafting based solely on past performance it'd be easier to be as good as I am at it. /guywhocalledalfredmorris You are f***ing crazy if you think Dwayne Bowe is going to be better than White or Fitzgerald. He still has a noodle armed QB except that Smith throws even MORE in between the numbers. Bowe is a vertical, middle to deep threat wide out. 3. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 30, 2013 -> 11:26 AM) QB Trent Edwards also gone...........both QB's from last night gone. Jesus what in the hell was he still doing around
  4. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 30, 2013 -> 11:48 AM) Freedom of speech does not extend to privately owned entities such as this message board. No, but greg has made 20,000 posts on the board and the owner of the website has not stopped him. I think he is perfectly fine with it for the most part, and this is on top of said owner making some otherwise brash comments on the subject matter.
  5. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 30, 2013 -> 11:27 AM) With his recent promotion to Double A, I think a strong showing in AFL will land him on some lists. In most people's eyes he's a good enough contact hitter, fairly good plate discipline, and has plus speed, which could lead to a pretty high floor. I think some analyst will be willing to overlook his defense at second base to put him on their list. AA will (or should) have no bearing on his rankings considering he struggled overall at A+ in what will end up being probably 3 times as many games. The AFL could be a factor, but I really think that if people are ranking him in the top 100, they're jumping the gun just a bit.
  6. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 30, 2013 -> 10:36 AM) My guess is around the 50-60 range. Many people will try to poke holes at his age and the fact that he isn't exactly a strikeout pitcher. I think Micah Johnson and Semien are on the bubble right now, but will crack the list depending on how they fare in AFL. Anderson will be in the 80+ range based on based, position, and his plus speed. I don't think Micah Johnson gets anywhere near a top 100 list. Semien definitely will. Anderson could, but I am not going to count on that one. The only one I feel safely guaranteeing ending up in a lot of top 100 lists is Erik Johnson
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 30, 2013 -> 09:41 AM) Yeah - his stock just went up big-time. I'd still wait before pigeon-holing yourself. You could have Shady, MJD, Ray Rice, etc. There is no way I'm taking MJD over Wilson. Ray Rice I probably would have to, but he won't make it to me anyways, there's a guy in our league who has a boner for him. I think Wilson can easily put up 1400 and 10 this year, and those could be even better too knowing how often the Giants like to pound it in near the end zone (/anal joke). I might be able to get guys like Bradshaw, Lacy, Bernard, Bell, Miller, Run DMC, Mathews, or Ivory later on too, or perhaps take Richardson and Pead in one shot in like the 11th and 12th and then hope one gets hot. All I know is that I want Wilson this year and I think he's going to be a top 10 back. I stashed him all year last year and he helped me make money, and I am going back to that well again this year. But this is why I hate picking 12th...he'll almost certainly be available at 24 but he's gone in that 29-34 range.
  8. Unless some jerk reaches even further than me, there is no way I'm not taking David Wilson on the turn at 12/13
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 04:47 PM) If Ozzie could have stifled himself he'd have worked forever. His resume will forever include the only Chicago WS title in modern history. Odds are neither Chicago team will win another one in the next 20-50 years so he's going to be a legend a long, long time. Baseball is different. Too much money out there in other markets for a Chicago team to win one. Like Madden said in the article, guys love playing for him and it resulted in the perfect storm in 05. The Marlins' owner was furious at him when Ozzie made some potshot about how everybody was to blame including the owner. Bye bye Oz. That owner in Miami, prick that he is, wasn't going to stand for that. If I had a 12 inch cock, I'd be a porn star, but I don't, so I'm not.
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 04:09 PM) Mark Parent's son popped for 50 games. Well that's embarrassing for Dad
  11. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 03:28 PM) No one can tell you how to draft. There are different strategies, so your first round pick really dictates how the rest of your draft goes. If you want to take the most conservative approach, draft the best rb available. A likely option is Lesean McCoy. I think hes going to do great things under Kelly's offense. I am so hoping people have forgotten about LeSean McCoy in my league. I think Spiller has gotten too popular, but McCoy might slip. He is who I want, but I think he's probably going to go 9 or 10.
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 03:23 PM) No just tell me who to pick. Danny Woodhead. Because he's another name for my penis.
  13. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 03:01 PM) who should I take #5 in a yahoo league, non PPR with pretty much standard scoring? The 5th best player. It depends on who's there and what you want to do. If you think you can find points at other positions later, take Rodgers or Brees. If you'd rather take your chance with a guy like Romo/Griffin/Newton/Kaepernick/Ryan/whoever, then take a running back. If not, maybe take Calvin Johnson or Jimmy Graham, places where you will get surplus value over regular old good players. Personally, I'd look for CJ Spiller, but I'm a homer and I think he's going to have a big, big year, especially if Manuel comes back. Manuel can do just enough to space the field, and Spiller might be the best player in the game in space. Look at rankings, look at mock drafts, whatever, there are all kinds of things you can do. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 03:04 PM) Josh Gordon Chris Givens Fred Jackson Jordan Cameron Bryce Brown Kendall Wright EJ Manuel(it's a keeper league so might as well take a long shot on a back up qb) Obviously weak at rb on the bench but with 3 solid ones in my regular starting lineup, I have a little added flexibility there. There's upside and a couple of handcuffs here, so I think you did OK. I think you need to view your bench as an deposit or investment in the event that guys get hurt and you have their capable replacements (for any number of reasons) rather than getting filling it with solid guys who can fill in week to week and be solid. You want a couple, but I like Jackson and Brown moreso than, say, Woodhead, Vereen, or really either Richardson or Pead in St. Louis. I just don't know what kind of potential those guys have while the others would be virtual bellcows if the starter gets hurt. ---- BTW, I have the 12th pick in our league. Not sure if we're doing PPR this year. I am planning on going RB & WR/TE (Johnson or Graham only). To me, there's just such a negligible difference between all the QBs that all I plan on is making sure I have a capable backup if I get an option QB. Of course, it may end up going RB/RB too, or, in the least likely scenario, RB/QB (I am talking Rodgers or Brees only here). If I make my first 2 selections and don't take a running back, I am f'ed in the A (or not Graham that high, maybe at the turn...jesus, I did not realize how many good tight ends there were last year)
  14. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 02:50 PM) I got roped into doing one more league this year. 12 team league going to be a keeper but this is the first year of it, 4 points for a throwing td, non ppr. I had the 8th overall: Wilson T. Richardson S. Jackson Fitzgerald T.Y. Hilton Gronk Lacy Seabass Seahawks That's a team. Who're the backups
  15. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 02:36 PM) Really though, with the addition of Levitre and Warmack to the line I expect him to have a huge year....Probably not 2k but I expect a much, much bigger year than last year. Levitre is more of a technically sound player than a mauler. He'll help, but not as much as one thinks. At the end of the day, Johnson has still lost a step and lacks the power to break many tackles. Last year, he rushed for 1243 yards at 4.5 yards per carry. He scored 6 touchdowns. Now, consider that he only broke 100 yards 5 times and, contrary to that, he rushed for fewer than 50 yards on 6 occasions. Further, if you take out the 18/195/2 that he gashed the Bills for because their defense was coached by an incompetent jackass, he ends up with a line consisting of... 258 carries 4.06 YPC 4 TD I'll let you go ahead and take Johnson in the 2nd and then wait for the rejuvenation (for the 3rd straight year) of a running back with 1500 carries on his legs. I'll be busy drafting David Wilson in the 4th and laughing all the way to bank.
  16. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 02:31 PM) CJk is gonna run all over your team this year. He will once again earn that name. see what I did there
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 01:48 PM) NHL 94. lies
  18. Bob Brenly also won a World Series title. The Diamondbacks thought so much of him that they fired him after a 29-50 start which was after they traded Curt Schilling to the Red Sox and sent a huge package of prospects for Richie Sexson (who played 23 games with the DBacks) and gave him a pitching staff full of junk pitchers (as well as Randy Johnson and Brandon Webb). They league thought so highly of him as a manager that he's never gotten another chance to manage in the major leagues. World Series winning manager =! a good manager
  19. This is, of course, not including Shaquille O'Neal, because he made all his money in college.
  20. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 01:30 PM) Obviously Madden is still a good to great game. It's just annoying that they can't fix the important s*** before addressing the fluff. They've been brilliant at marketing the game every year (or it's really, really easy because it's the only NFL game out there), but it's still kind of surprising they sell as many games as they do when I know a lot of people wait 1-2 years before buying a new one. When you think of the phrase "E-A SPORTS: IT'S IN THE GAME" what is the first game that comes to mind? They've used it for virtually all of their sporting games at one point or another, but I bet close to 90% of people will say Madden.
  21. So athletic departments in general consistently run at pretty heavy losses. This is basically what it should be, I think. These programs are there for entertainment, and while people have a tendency to take them too seriously, you are mostly supposed to go and get drunk and have a good time (or whatever). Yet, during the 2012 fiscal year, the NCAA, in general, turned a $72 million surplus.
  22. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 01:09 PM) There were 14 RBs taken before I got CJ2k, 16 before I got Bush. Colston is the only pick I'd like to do over with Welker, Nelson, Steve Smith, Mike Wallace, and VJax still on the board. Was really banking on Torrey Smith who went 2 picks before Colston. So this is a PPR league. And you took Marques Colston over Wes Welker. And Torrey Smith went before both of them.
  23. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 12:16 PM) In the excited department, count me in as having wet dreams. For the second time this week I dreamt about Derrick Rose on the court. WTF is wrong with me. Anyway, he finished an alley oop and the camera zoomed in on his face afterwards and it was a legit "he's back and f***ing fine" feeling. Wish it were real. Do you masturbate to NBA highlights? Because I dream of women, and I masturbate to women.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 12:03 PM) With the injury problems, I am good with his sitting out this fall/winter. Heal up, come back next year ready to go. He's only 19, so it isn't like the clock is ticking or anything. He's 20, and he turns 21 on January 16th. If he shows he's healthy for the rest of the season, he'll have about a month or so to rest and relax at the end of the season - Kanny's not going to the playoffs and, unless the Dash won one of their halves, they won't either, so there's no point in moving him around. Then you can send him to the instructional league and then the Winter Leagues. Winter Leagues may be a bit much for him at this point, being so underdeveloped and raw yet. The AZL Instructional is, in my mind, incredibly important for him though if he is going to have any potential to develop into a 1B of the future.
  25. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 11:16 AM) I really like what I have seen from Leury Garcia thus far. If we put together a contender soon he can really be a great bench piece that we have severely lacked in the recent past. I hope they have an emphasis of teaching him how to steal from here to OD 2014. He was disruptive yesterday. That was one of the best 0-2 games I have seen in a while. I'm glad that, considering everyone was taken aback by his OBP/plate discipline (and rightfully so), he worked two walks yesterday. Especially with the great AB in the 1st. Maybe it was a matter of embracing the leadoff spot but either way that was great. He has also made good contact the last two nights a couple times and hit it right at someone. Give me a cheap UTIL player who can play plus D at 2B-3B-SS-CF (I am not sure if he is plus in CF) with his speed and any added offense is a kicker. BB% of 5.9% in his minor league career, 6.25% at AAA, 5.6% between AA and AAA; it can get better, but any of them put him right around 35 walks over 600 PAs, which, while not great, is OK. I think the biggest fear is a K% of 25% at AAA and 20.2% overall in the minors. You can strike out that much if you hit 20 homers a year. You can't do that if you're going to hit 2 homers a year.
