More of a paradox. We have freedom of speech, yet we do not have freedom of speech. OK, back to serious discussion

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 10:53 AM) I think that after Gavin got some positive feedback last year on some adjustment(s) in his delivery and did well that we see winning results this year. I for one would have no problem with keeping him beyond this contract. If you could have, this team would still have Jermaine Dye on it.

QUOTE (PorkChopExpress @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 11:12 AM) Just going through this thread, and I don't know if it's the color, my monitor or my eyes, but that "cl" looks like a "d". I thought to myself, "what the hell is a dutch walk?" Then I laughed. Now I'm going to be giggling every time I see the Big Donkey taking a dutch walk. A dutch walk is very good because it costs the pitcher 7 pitches - ball, strike, ball, strike, ball, foul, ball. Sorta like a Dutch 200 in bowling. (making this up on the fly)

John Danks surgery/rehab/recovery thread
witesoxfan replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Personally, I wanted them to trade Danks prior to 2011 and then at the deadline too, but Williams found it imperative to have him and resign him. It was Williams' last mistake. Still, our very own physical therapist has basically said that this is not something that is going to ultimately ruin his arm and that he will (should) eventually find his stuff again. I just can't be overly concerned at this point. -
John Danks surgery/rehab/recovery thread

QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 08:52 AM) Especially in this case. While the surgery did not involve the muscles much, there was some cleanup, he hadn't thrown since late last season. It will take time to build the strength. He is probably going through fatigue phase of muscle building. Another possibility is that since the physician tightened up the shoulder capsule, the shoulder feels different now. He may take time for him to get the feel of the new shoulder and be comfortable enough to get his command back. You are obviously wrong, John Danks is ruined forever, and it's the worst contract in the history of the entire planet. -
This entire case is just to remind you how sick and vile people can really be. Have a nice day.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 08:11 AM) You're right. It does happen to all pitchers from time to time. And yes, Vazquez was the king of falling apart. But, to me it seemed like this happened to Floyd more often than some of the other Sox pitchers over the past few years. When he does that, I generally see it as an inability to find a consistent curve and/or change, so he has to work primarily with his fastball. He locates his fastball pretty well, but it doesn't have a lot of movement and when hitters square it up, they hit it a long way. He's a decent pitcher with inconsistent stuff who gets destroyed as a result. With regard to his stuff, he's probably got the most inconsistent stuff I've ever seen in a pitcher, that I have no problem debating. One outing his curve will have the bottom fall out, the next his change will dive down and in to righties and be incredible, and the next he's nothing but fastballs. It's maddening

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 05:50 AM) Floyd has always seemed to me to be a pitcher with good stuff, occassionally great stuff, who seems to fold under pressure at times. I've seen him cruising along, give up a couple hits, and completely fall apart. However, I can remember two starts where he flirted with a no-hitter. Overall, he's an inning eater and has the potential to be a good, sometimes great pitcher. With Danks seemingly not 100%, having Floyd makes things look a lot better. That happens to all kinds of pitchers though. Mark Buehrle got like 45 outs in a row and ended up giving up 5 runs in 6.1 IP. He blew up once he gave up a hit. I wouldn't classify Mark Buehrle as a guy who folds under pressure. The only guy I can honestly say I saw consistenly fold under pressure was Javier Vazquez.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 09:53 PM) Not what I was saying or arguing. My question is how we can be so sure that all the trade talk hasn't affected his performance?? The numbers he's put up suggest it hasn't. Maybe it has. Nobody knows except Gavin.

John Danks surgery/rehab/recovery thread

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 08:47 PM) Please excuse my ignorance as I have not paid attention to spring training whatsoever this year. Has Hector Santiago been pitching/preparing to be a starting pitcher during the spring training? What I'm asking is: can he just jump in for Danks for few starts with no problems? Averaged 2 innings per appearance, made one start. I imagine he'll start getting stretched out here very quickly. His numbers are not pretty either, but it's 8 innings and spring training so it's not a big deal. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 09:28 PM) Really? How, exactly, can we ascertain that? How can you ascertain that he IS a headcase?? Is it fair to be throwing around unfair and libelous accusations about a player because of mere perceptions? His raw numbers don't indicate it (the deviation in his ERA over the last 5 years is minimal. He had a higher FIP last year but also saw his K/9 increase as well. He has, by and large, been the exact same pitcher the last 5 years. Calling Floyd a headcase is BS.

QUOTE (TRU @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 07:24 PM) lol the Rams did a good job? Jake Long is a bum. The last few seasons have been injury plagued and downright poor play. You don't pay 9 million a season for someone who can barely stay healthy and is a shell of his former self. Honestly, no one should be paying 9 million for an offensive lineman. The only time they impact the game is when they don't do their job. That's the point. It's difficult to find lineman who do their job well and do it consistently. If you can find someone who can be as good as Jake Long has been in the past, they are worth it. If not, they took a calculated risk and I'm sure they're out of it after 2 years.

QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 05:49 PM) Seriously. He's getting one more chance. We can bury this dead horse.
-
QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 07:24 PM) At least Floyd is not a mental midget where hearing this might effect him.... Oh, wait. He's been on the trade block for the last 2 and a half years. Really hasn't affected him whatsoever.
-
Yeah, that seems to extend beyond the reach of the First Amendment. You can't threaten someone's livelihood, even if it's over the internet.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 04:25 PM) There was no way he was starting the season 3rd in rotation. At least not in my mind It's been Danks' health versus Santiago for the 5th spot all Spring, and Santiago appears to be winning as of right now.
-
Sox will need a 5th starter right away too, first Sunday game of the year, and it'll keep on rolling right after that, barring an immediate rain out, of course.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 04:08 PM) Last ball of the inning spanked by Mesoroco. Ramirez with an amazing play. Sloppy game so far, already 3 errors (Fraser/Heisey/Dunn). That catcher's killing the ball, hitting around .450 with 10 RBI's this spring but still will be in the minors due to Hanigan getting the starting nod. Mesoraco was generally a consensus top 20 prospect in the game last year. That talent didn't disappear overnight. (and still, Flowers put up better minor league numbers overall)
-
He's got time to get things figured out, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with Danks starting the season on the DL. He'd finally get to play with his brother anyways.
-
I don't know if it actually was, I was just making a funny, but you have to figure that's who did it.
