QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Dec 21, 2012 -> 09:52 AM) Assuming both Danks and V-Mart come back at 100%; who do you think accounts for more wins? WARs? Danks without a doubt Martinez is going to be primarily a DH, so whatever offense he adds is going to add less value than Danks will in the rotation.

Good god is that a lot of money. I didn't think he'd get $5 mill, let alone $7 per for 2 years -
QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Dec 21, 2012 -> 09:37 AM) Because Detroit added Torii Hunter and gets Victor Martinez back. Those are HUGE pieces! Hunter turns 38 this season and Martinez is coming back from a pretty severe knee injury. There are no guarantees for either of those two.

QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Dec 21, 2012 -> 09:24 AM) IF Flowers plays up to his potential, and IF the pitching holds up, and IF Keppinger can be a servicable (or better) every day 3B, the Sox cannot compete with Detroit, and may not be as good as KC. But AJ Pierzysnki solves all those problems. Got it.

Sale and Quintana only. Peavy does not qualify for the technical Verducci effect due to his advanced age. He's been up there before in innings, he knows what it's like, and he knows how to deal with it.

On September 15th, with the Sox up 5-2, the bases loaded, and nobody out in the bottom of the 9th, Robin Ventura went to Matt Thornton to face Justin Morneau. This was a day after he used Thornton in mop up duty in the 9th of the game from the previous night. Morneau GIDP'd and Thornton ended up getting the save.

I really don't think this step back at catcher is as big as a lot of people think. I honestly think Flowers could very easily be a .250/.350/.500 player at his peak and he could be a guy that hits 25-30 homers, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him out OPS AJ next season.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 21, 2012 -> 08:49 AM) At this rate, every one of them by the time he retires. He is the new Javier Vazquez. He is far more consistent and less apt to s*** the bed in the clutch -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 20, 2012 -> 09:50 PM) Hey Wite, did you ever finish Oblivion? Twice. The Dark Brotherhood quest in that game is one of my favorite in the series.

QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Dec 21, 2012 -> 07:55 AM) Hmm, I wonder if Peavy will throw at him. I would not be happy as a White Sox fan.

It's like people have completely ignored how much of an offensive force Tyler Flowers was in the minors. His numbers look just as good, if not better, than Mike Napoli's, and he doesn't show the incredible LH/RH splits that Napoli has. With the amount of vitriol thrown around by those who favored AJ coming back, it reminds me of when Ventura was hired - except that nobody liked the Ventura hire. There was no way the Sox would have brought him, nor should there have been. It's time to start developing the catcher of the future that was acquired 4 years ago.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 20, 2012 -> 06:09 PM) Yeah, the only way to possibly defend this move is from a business perspective. We just got a massive downgrade in a huge position of need. Do we have any capable catchers in the minors? Yes, Tyler Flowers

Best friend just got engaged, so that's kind of cool.

QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 20, 2012 -> 05:46 PM) http://hufffreehiphop.com/lance-barrett-to...ff-again-video/ Im going to miss this "Your ****ing brutal!" That is just one of the many awesome memories of Pierzynski. He also threw out Cowley 10 of 10 times trying to steal, which was awesome.

That Dodgers game was awesome. Thanks for the service AJ, greatly appreciated. Oh, and yaaaay we got to yell obscenities at AJ now!

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 20, 2012 -> 05:30 PM) An overwhelming number of Americans want to see stricter gun regulations. I'd imagine that includes people from both major political parties. Yep

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 20, 2012 -> 04:57 PM) Think you could get more for Veal than Thornton in a trade right now? No. A year ago Veal was minor league fodder. Anybody that trades for him based on 2 months is way overplaying their hand, no matter how good he did in fact look.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 20, 2012 -> 04:04 PM) Porcello will get more back in a trade than Floyd and I certainly don't see a market for Thornton. De Aza probbly is their best chip, but I'm not sure how much you get back for him. There's no way there's no market for Thornton. He's a reliever with 1 year left on his deal (plus an option) so the value isn't incredible, but I just can't and won't believe there's no value or market there.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 20, 2012 -> 03:45 PM) I feel like B-Mac got dealt on X-mas, but that could have been Thanksgiving. December 23rd

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 20, 2012 -> 02:57 PM) How do you know that? There's no guarantee, but players are generally not traded 1 year into a 4 year deal -
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 20, 2012 -> 03:03 PM) And if he had held onto Sergio because the deal wasn't there, then what? He'd have an injured player he couldn't trade. Also Kenny's lack on info on Molina makes me very seriously think that this was a Hahn move & Molina was a Hahn target. Kenny IIRC didn't even know what Molina was doing over that offseason. I wouldn't be surprised if last offseason KW kind of let Rick make some decisions on his own to prep him for the promotion. Molina came recommended by Marco Paddy

2014 will mark the first season since 2008 that Edwin Jackson won't be starting the season on a new team nor be traded. -
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 20, 2012 -> 02:39 PM) You guys are all making sense. What I loved about Kenny though was the fact that he would make a move without thinking all day about whether or not it was a mistake. Aggressiveness is an excellent quality for a GM to have and I see none of it with Hahn. It seems like Hahn is playing it way too safe and I don't like that one bit. Look, if you don't think DeAza is a long-term piece then f***ing trade him. Yes, as "dominos" fall, there are fewer players on the market. The flip side is that there are then fewer teams looking to fill holes. Sitting around all day doesn't necessarily mean you're going to get a better return on a player. Often it means you end up getting nothing done & have to take less than what you wanted at a later date. I will now echo the statement of another poster on this thread who asked Rock Raines which direction are we headed in. What is the plan here? Do we have one? Seagulls have a plan. Seagulls have a direction, a very clear direction. When you watch the geese fly overhead, they actually know where they are going. Do the Sox even know that? Is Rick Hahn smarter than a seagull or a goose or a gander? None of this is certain, and the lack of action & the uncertainty surrounding it makes me think about monster trucks. THat is all. If you traded on the stock market this way, you'd lose all of your money in about 6 weeks. Wait out for commodities to increase in value and deal them then. Deal them at highest value, not lower. That sort of thing.
