QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 04:50 PM) Just since no one said it... Keppinger literally cannot be traded. A player cannot be traded until some time during the season after he's signed as a free agent (not sure what the date was but that's been in every CBA). He was trolling.

QUOTE (3E8 @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 02:59 PM) What was wrong with Trumbo in the 2nd half of last season? To give you an idea of how bad he struggled, Alexei Ramirez had six more extra base hits than Trumbo did in that timespan. His numbers in August and September look like Adam Dunn from 2011 without the ability to draw a walk. I like Trumbo a lot, but I'm not sure he's even an upgrade on Viciedo.

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 02:33 PM) Yes he is, and it kills me when I see Bears fans agree with Finley. Even a hobbled Urlacher is better than a healthy Nick Roach. People can be so dumb. I don't know about a hobbled Urlacher, but they are not better with Urlacher out. I was primarily referring to the "he's an idiot" comment. That is 100% correct.

QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 01:59 PM) Here's the situation...right now, the Sox are no better than they were at the end of last season. In fact, if anything, they're worse. (Flowers for AJ is a downgrade, Keppinger for Youk is a "wash", losing Myers, etc.). Meanwhile the Tigers have added Torii Hunter and have Victor Martinez coming back, the Royals have improved, as have the Angels, Blue Jays, Red Sox, etc. The Sox either have to make some serious upgrades/acquisitions, or they need to trash what they do have and rebuild. IMO the AL Central in winnable, I don't want to rebuild...not yet. Losing Myers is not a big loss, and I don't think Flowers will be as much of a downgrade as you believe. There's still a lot of time left. Be patient. They can also make moves in season too.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 12, 2012 -> 08:39 PM) ok so maybe this thread has zero potential, but all trolling aside, i really AM CURIOUS about what drives someone to identify with republicans if it ISN'T religion-based. otherwise, unless you're rich, it seems to me like it's a vote against your self-interest. With the amount of taxation, spending, and lack of job creation that I see going on, I believe that Republican fiscal ideology will positively stimulate the economy by breeding competition and innovation and thus private job creation, which will then decrease unemployment and help tp more quickly stabilize an economy that is failing. Thus, even as an atheist making $30k a year, I believe in the Republican way because I believe it will provide more opportunities for me in the long run. I'm more Libertarian than I am Republican, but it's conservative and, push come to shove, I align myself moreso with R's than D's (and perhaps the title of the thread should not be "why did you become a Republican?" but instead the more general "why did you become a conservative?" because there is plenty to disagree with from the Republican and the Democrat party).

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 12:37 PM) I don't mind a little s*** talking by these two teams at each other. I just don't think outside of Finley anyone on the Packers is going to say anything. They going to get rid of him after this year?
-
QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 01:48 PM) That's what sucks...with the Sox it always boils down to money. I wish current ownership could find someone like Mark Cuban to buy the team! Now it's a money thing, because the Sox don't spend money. (or they just spend money wisely)

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 01:47 PM) Bring in Uribe and trade Keppinger for a reliever and backup catcher. Stop it.

QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 01:40 PM) Who replaces Josh in their OF? They have one of the best farm systems and a ton of money. You could be looking at anyone from Craig Gentry to Leonis Martin to Julio Borbon to Michael Bourn. The last thing they really need to do right now is trade for a player who is uncomfortable playing the position they need him to play.

QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 01:37 PM) Looks like the Rangers could really use Rios in their OF right about now!!!! More like Pierzynski behind the plate

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 12:18 PM) @BradBiggs Lance Briggs asked about #Packers TE Jermichael Finley saying #Bears could be better without Brian Urlacher: "He's an idiot." Briggs is right

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 12:02 PM) If by fairly regular, you mean about 92%, 5th best in the majors last year, then yeah. Yeah, that's what I mean. Fairly regular.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 11:43 AM) The only drawback about winning a World Series is having people bring up the idea of bringing back "heroes" forever. Wonder what Politte and Cotts are up to nowadays

I think Swisher ends up in Cleveland. Great place for a great person. -
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 10:46 AM) How's his defense these days? Before even considering metrics that won't give an accurate portrayal, I'm sure it's quite a bit worse.

QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 10:44 AM) Just wondering...a previous poster mentioned that DeAza was a better ballplayer than Ichiro; could somebody please try to explain this inane comment? Ichiro is simply not that good anymore. He still has pretty good bat control and can make contact on a fairly regular basis, but he generally does not hit the ball with much authority anymore, doesn't walk a great deal, and he isn't the defender he once was. He's a slap singles hitter instead of the gap to gap stolen base machine he was earlier in his career. De Aza is a gap to gap hitter right now, he works a count, hits for a bit of power, and can play an effective CF. Ichiro has had a great career, but he is not going to be much more than a .280 hitter for the rest of his career, and he might not even get to that point.
-
There's no way I'd give Uribe much more than the league minimum, and that would be on a non-guaranteed contract. There are worse ways to spend $2 million - finding a random fan in the stands and giving him or her a $2 mill contact is probably worse - but not many.
-
He would be a great fit with Tampa.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 12, 2012 -> 08:24 PM) I would like Santiago starting as much as anyone, but he's the 4th lefty in the rotation and there are 2-3 other people in the minors who can be the 6th starter (assuming Floyd isn't gone). We actually kinda have too many MLB lhp's right now. That's kind of like having too much money -
Ray Olmedo signed with the Twins

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 12, 2012 -> 05:04 PM) But, I have never heard them say we were rebuilding They also said never said they were going to trade Zach Stewart and Brent Lillibridge away, but then they went and Youkilis came in.
