  1. I was primarily doing it as a joke. It's sad that we'd still do it and they'd laugh, and those are, for the most part, 6 of the Sox better prospects. AND I WAS JOKING...I had no intentions of that ever being taken serious ever because I just went on a rant about this like 2 weeks ago and how much I hate it. (it is still fun to fantasize about Stanton in the lineup)
  2. Rienzo, Viciedo, Thompson, Mitchell, Sanchez, and Castro for Escobar and Stanton. Get it done Hahn, even if it involves a roofie colada
  3. I've been on this site for more than 10 years. Thanks for making me feel old, Soxtalk
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 21, 2012 -> 01:22 PM) It's amazing how much discussion we have here for mostly inconsequential moves. This addresses 2013 and nothing beyond that. For the $ I'd go with Wise in 2013 as he can step in and get a few hits here and there and his defense is comparable to Danks'. He'll hardly be out there anyway. Neither player will play much in 2013 anyway and neither will be here in 2014. When DeWayne Wise wins game 7 of the World Series by striking out the side in the top of the 9th and then hitting a 700 foot walk-off homer and then subsequently begins the rapture as the second coming, I know I'll be saved. Will you?
  5. QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Nov 21, 2012 -> 03:53 PM) Are these Spring exhibition games usually televised at all? Locally, yes. There will be some on WGN and you might get 1 or 2 on ESPN.
  6. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 21, 2012 -> 03:32 PM) They're paying Hester too much to only use him on Special Teams. When you have a guy who can break open a game, get you field position, and force the team to just do generally stupid things simply by standing out there, you aren't paying him too much. If they kick it through the back of the endzone on a punt or out or short on a kickoff, then his presence alone has gained anywhere from 10-20 extra yards based on that alone. Now, had you said they are PLAYING him too much to use him on special teams, that may be an argument I can support. He had a bit of a resurgence when they took him out of the offense and used him primarily on special teams.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 21, 2012 -> 10:17 AM) I think that 77% shooting has everything to do with Grinell's defensive philosophy. They all-out full court press the whole game to force turnovers, and don't care about half-court defense. So the fact that he actually missed 10 shots makes it even worse.
  8. QUOTE (Cali @ Nov 21, 2012 -> 10:17 AM) Don't understand the re-hiring of Gibbons, he was already the manager the last time the Jays loaded up in the off-season and they still missed the playoffs. His Wikipedia page literally has a section entitled "Controversy with players". So that's DEFINITELY the guy you want leading a clubhouse of superstar players. To go along with his 305-305 record. That's the best AA could come up with? What's John Olerud up to? or Joe Carter? It's all the rage to hire former players from your heyday as manager... At least they're gonna underachieve in great uniforms... (but not against the Sox for whatever reason haha) John Olerud lives in Seattle. Joe Carter is the worst.
  9. QUOTE (staxx @ Nov 21, 2012 -> 09:39 AM) I'd assume there will be many teams open to Figgins at minimum wage due to his versatility. Anything guaranteed to him is too much, even at the minimum. Denny Hocking could play a bunch of different positions but that didn't make him a good ballplayer. Over the last two seasons, accumulating 507 PAs, Chone Figgins has put up an OPS of .502. He's put up a WAR of -2.1 and is 15 of 22 in stolen bases. I'm sure he'll be better, but he can be someone else's headache.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 21, 2012 -> 09:07 AM) Very disappointed in him this year. but I also think they are still forcefeeding Hester, the guy is on the field far too much at important times He sees the field well in front of him and is incredibly fast and shifty. That works with kick and punt returns. Make him think and try to run routes? You're SOL
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 21, 2012 -> 08:37 AM) Jeff Passan: If Marlins are serious about rebuilding, they should trade Giancarlo Stanton now Haven't even read the article and I agree. He's going to be extremely upset to the point that he may be a clubhouse distraction, plus you could get a crazy, crazy haul for him right now too while he still has a ton of service time and is very cheap still.
  12. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Nov 20, 2012 -> 10:07 PM) Wrap your head around these numbers!! 138 points 52-108 FG 27-71 3pt FG These are the numbers of ONE player in a game tonight!!! Jack Taylor of Grinnell vs. Faith Baptist Bible New NCAA All-Division record. That's mind boggling, no matter who you are playing. That's 2.7 shot attempts per minute and more than one made shot per minute!! How would it feel to score 104 points as a team and lose by #1) 34 points to one player #2) 75 points overall
  13. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Nov 20, 2012 -> 11:18 PM) It was fun to watch their desperate fan base think otherwise, though. I'm pretty sure Darwin Barney isn't the baseball player Cub fans think he is either. He's a less talented iteration of Gordon Beckham. If they expect anything more than a slap-hitting, defensively minded second baseman, then they are expecting too much.
  14. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 20, 2012 -> 09:20 PM) I banned someone. Everyone guess who it is. And you assholes call me power hungry
  15. Bryan LaHair in the second half - .202/.269/.303/.572, 119 PAs, 39 K. I had said pretty much all along that there was no way he was going to keep up his pace, and he definitely did not.
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 20, 2012 -> 05:08 PM) I don't get the infatuation with Stephen Drew. Is he great defensively? If not, I don't see him as a big upgrade to Peralta, and plus Drew has his injury problems. He's just like his brother. He doesn't do anything that excites you, but he's a pretty solid all-around player who has a tendency to get hurt. When he's hurt, he is't incredibly productive coming off the DL, and that's his biggest problem.
  17. It's selective memory because I always remember his big hits, but I've always liked Brayan Pena.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 20, 2012 -> 12:27 PM) Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi #Mariners acquire IF Robert Andino from #Orioles for OF Trayvon Robinson. Really nice trade for the Orioles. Get rid of a guy who is going to cost too much and will probably never be anything more than a backup and get a very talented outfielder in return. If I was a Seattle fan, I'd be upset about this. I wouldn't trade anything with power for anything that slaps.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 20, 2012 -> 01:41 PM) LOL. Don't talk about a Marlin in a Marlin thread. Yes sir. This is a thread involving a trade between the Blue Jays and Marlins. There is still an entire thread dedicated to the Miami Marlins here.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 20, 2012 -> 11:40 AM) Harbaugh & Schiano have seemed to buck the trend recently. I wonder if it helps that both are hard asses. Probably helps more that both run pro-style offenses. I think had Saban stuck around long enough, he would have turned things around in Miami too, but the college game is all the pride with such little disappointment for a guy as skilled as he is.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 20, 2012 -> 09:20 AM) But Santos is a 6-year minor leaguer. He needs a new contract, right? I don't believe that is the case so long as you are added to the 40-man roster. He will just start burning through options now.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 19, 2012 -> 05:21 PM) I used them once to get rid of a rash. Congratulations, you and Barry Bonds are both dirty, filthy cheaters.
