The White Sox don't have the talent to acquire Myers/Moustakas/Gordon without dealing Sale. Floyd/Q/any other White Sox pitching prospect simply do not match up with the talent level of guys like Shields, Hellickson, and Lester. -
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Nov 26, 2012 -> 06:28 PM) I got about 3 good weeks out of it. But once you hit a certain point with the game, interest drops to nothing. I probably beat 80+% of total missions, but didn't actually finish the main storyline... Unless you played 8 hours a day for 3 weeks solid and did nothing but missions, there's simply no way you completed 80+% of the missions. Perhaps regarding the primary missions (Dark Brotherhood, College of Mages, Thieves Guild, those sorts), but there will be side quests up the Yin Yang for 150 hours. I think I probably put 250+ hours onto Morrowind (on one file...I played through that game like 4 times) and I'd say maybe completed 80% of the missions at that point. I agree that just doing the receive mission -> go to place -> kill draugrs/bandits (every single mission ever ever ever) -> finish mission does get boring and reptitive, but there are a few other interesting ones within the game, there are some great locations to simply explore (Blackreach is ridiculous), and the amount of stuff you can simply just do on the side (blacksmithing, enchanting, and alchemy are the main 3 I've done but you can do whatever else) beyond exploring alone are also great ways to spend time in the game too. That may not be what some people are interested in, and I get that, but it's a sandbox game. It's the same basic guideline as a GTA game.

I think Will Myers is a good looking prospect, but one has to wonder about his 23.7% K-rate, and how much of his walks were simply minor leaguers pitching away from him. I have admittedly not seen him play, so that may not be a correct assessment entirely, but I'd like to see that K-rate cut down before I consider him some almighty prospect. Given that, yeah, there's no way I'm not offering him for Lester. I get that Lester had a poor year last year, but his velocity is fine on all pitches. If I'm the Red Sox, I seriously consider that sort of move, and if I'm the Royals, that's the type of move that will cement a legacy in Kansas City, good or bad. -
Before I forget, and something that is generally pretty subjective (as opposed to Bryant's pinkie clearly being out of bounds), I just want to say that the final play of the Colts-Bills game (besides Luck kneeling) was a total and bulls*** ticky-tack PI call given the circumstances. http://www.buffalobills.com/media-center/v...d8-b9c977fda043 The play starts at 2:58. There is clearly contact made by the cornerback, but as I see it, he simply had his arm on the left side of Reggie Wayne's body and his placement does not effect the ability for Wayne to make the catch whatsoever (unlike Randy Moss's obvious non-call in the Saints-49ers game, which, as I recall, led to a score, if not a touchdown). I'm obviously biased, and can see how it would be called, but you would think that, given the circumstances of the game, they would let the guys play a little bit towards the end of the game. The Colts made a risky move, Wayne didn't run a great route (and actually pushes off of Gilmore on the intial move in the route), and Luck didn't make a great pass...yet the PI call is made based upon Gilmore putting his hand on Wayne's side, knocking down the pass (which, it can be argued he used the hand contact as leverage, which I wouldn't deny either), and then the two falling at the end of the play. I just think that one is so close that you let it go, which is why I was as frustrated as I was with the call. In all likelihood, the Bills don't drive down the field and score, but I think, given the circumstances, that call was unnecessary.

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 26, 2012 -> 05:24 PM) This reminds me of Neftali Feliz and the Rangers. Basically a bad idea. It also reminds me of when the Sox moved Sale to the rotation. It's not always a bad idea so long as the pitchers are handled properly. Sometimes, it will bite you in the ass for a year and a half, but the Reds have the rotation depth to get over such an injury, and he could legitimately make them one of the best teams in the MLB. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 26, 2012 -> 04:06 PM) Give it a week, and you'll never pick it up again. Eh, I wouldn't say that. You can lose interest, but there are a lot of unique and fun things to do in Skyrim and a lot of unique different missions. I've loved the series, but my favorite game was honestly Morrowind. Perhaps it was just because it was a completely different experience for me and has stuck with me for that reason, but I've always found it to be the best game of the bunch. In all fairness though, Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim have all been great games. Never played the first two, though I plan on doing so at some point in time. I just recall reading how difficult the first one (I believe) is just to get out of the tutorial.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 26, 2012 -> 04:01 PM) The union has been in the long process of dehorning the league for a few years now. It started with the Williams twins in Minnesota. Which is good. I don't mind giving Goodell the power to make suspensions in some of these cases, but he had gotten quite power hungry. A guy like Suh though who has a terrible history of plays like this? They could have found the grounds to suspend him.

2012-2013 Sox off season Catch-All thread

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 26, 2012 -> 03:25 PM) It does have a 'Customize' button on the site, so maybe one of the customizations you could get is to replace the Twins logo with a Sox logo. I'm pretty sure that's what they do, it's just ironic that they put a Twins logo on it and advertise it on the White Sox site. -
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 26, 2012 -> 11:52 AM) LOL. You clearly have no idea what a troll is man. Nooo idea. And is this very article NOT being discussed here? http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nfl--jay-cutl...-020935212.html Is this very comment not suggesting his value around the league, considering THE LEAGUE is used in his comment? Yes it is. Did you bother to see who he was actually quoting? QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 26, 2012 -> 11:12 AM) Trent Dilfer said last night that if you don't judge QBs by stats but judge them by the number of their team's flaws they cover up, Cutler might be the best QB in the league. I don't think Hickory was suggesting that Cutler is the best QB in the league, he merely made mention of the fact that Trent Dilfer, who has been a huge, huge critic of Cutler over the past couple years, suggested that Cutler might be the best QB in the league with regards to covering up the flaws of a team. The Bears are 8-3 but I can't see them with even 5 wins with anybody but Jay Cutler playing QB.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 24, 2012 -> 09:18 PM) Seems to me he becomes a favorite of all managers. He started for the Yankees for quite a spell, didn't he? Then he was our starter. I don't mind the guy, I just wish we'd get some new bodies out on the field. Deweezy to me is a symbol of the fact we ain't gonna win the division. He doesn't complain about sitting. He plays hard when he's in the lineup. He's a generally smart ballplayer. He doesn't say anything dumb to the press (primarily because they don't care). As a manager, what's not to love about a player like that?
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 24, 2012 -> 01:54 PM) He was great right after the Sox got him and horrific the last 3 weeks as I recall. I don't know if he gets tired or what, but the bad Wise was an automatic out. I remember at one point he had no chance up there. The good Wise was pretty amazing. He had an OPS of 1.000 for his first 9 games, 8 of which were starts. In his final 36 games, 30 of which were starts, his OPS was .617. You can do all sorts of cherry picking through his games to find small decent stretches and longer, terrible stretches. The reason DeWayne Wise has stuck around the game long enough is that he is dependable enough to use on the bench because he can play 3 OF positions, hit for a bit of power, and run the bases pretty well. The reason he's only been given the starting job once - unjustly, I might add - is because he's simply not that good. You play him when you need him. That's his job as a 4th outfielder.

QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 23, 2012 -> 09:14 AM) Come to think of it I was thinking of a pitcher when I mentioned one or two season wonders. They go from awesome to boching saves. Hmm, I think you spelled that intentionally. I remember a guy who was hitting 100 for a couple teams, and was then traded to the White Sox and was absolutely terrible.

Marlins trade Buehrle, Josh Johnson, Reyes plus others to Blue Jays

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 24, 2012 -> 01:56 PM) I think everybody on here who posts often is happy when the Sox win. Why would they stick around here if they wanted the team to suck? Don't want. They expect. -
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Nov 23, 2012 -> 06:09 PM) Bowe, Mendenhall, Steven Jackson, or Justin Blackmon? Cigarette and a blindfold an option? The most talented player of the group is Jackson, but he's facing a tough Cardinals defense. Blackmon faces a pretty easy matchup against the Titans, but do you believe he is closer to the player he was last week or the first 9 weeks of the season? I wouldn't touch Bowe or Mendenhall with a 10-foot pole right now

QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 23, 2012 -> 05:04 PM) You bring up a interesting point about what is responsible and what is not on a public forum. I believe I clearly stated it was my opinions. My opinion is based on Ozzie's own words and his actions. I'm do not believe it is unfair to take Ozzie's own characterizations about his drinking and blame drinking on some of his bizarre behaviors. He essentially stated that, win or lose, he ended up drinking pretty much every night - the win in celebration, the loss in despair.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 23, 2012 -> 05:31 PM) That's exactly what I'm saying. I think I value Mark's style more than others. I think he rubs off well on the other pitchers who emulate him. I would reacquire him and deal some of the other lefties. Mark doesn't make sense for the Sox right now. They are in a transition period where they will be incorporating young players onto the roster while also trying to remain competitive. The biggest area where they are doing that right now is in the rotation. On top of that, Mark does get really expensive really quickly. Everyone here valued, loved, and cherished Mark for what he did, but the time was right for the two to go in opposite directions. He will get his number retired and he might even get a statue too. There aren't many guys in White Sox history that were as loved as Mark Buehrle. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 22, 2012 -> 09:49 PM) Why do you say that? In saying that, you imply it's kind of a dumb comment, showing little baseball knowledge. I think it shows a lot of baseball knowledge of our Sox. Remember when we got Wise and he was amazing for 2 weeks or so?? Then it was over. The hot streak was done and all he did was make outs and I think he made a few defensive gaffes or baserunning blunders as well. I love Wise but as a fan I'd rather see somebody else out there. Somebody new. People on here clamor for change, well I'd agree in this case. Give me another backup outfielder. We know what Dweezey can do and that is get hot for a two-week stretch or so, which is fine. His whole body of work is .230ish, however. Why is it dumb to say Robin should play him during that torrid stretch, then when he sees it's over, just bench him for good? Can you deny he gets hot, then is not? How is a guy going to get out of a slump if he doesn't play?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 22, 2012 -> 02:38 AM) Stanton for Sale, Viciedo, Reed/Jones and Thompson would probably be the asking price. The thing is, Sale has the same amount of service time, so both of those guys get much more expensive in 2014...which is something the Marlins would be avoiding by trading him this season when he'll cost under $1 million, versus the following season, when he's expected to be at $7+ million. I hope the Chinese government is not aware that you are smoking weed and coming up with these ideas. Essentially, value wise , player to player... Sale = Stanton Sale has an extra year, just destroyed the AL...but he's a pitcher, so there are injury concerns. But you are willing to give Reed or Jones, Viciedo, and Thompson? f***. I mean...what? Seriously? C'mon man. (WHAT HAVE I DONE?! CLOSE THIS CAN OF WORMS, CLOSE THIS CAN OF WORMS, CLOSE THIS CAN OF WORMS) -
How much are you willing to offer Josh Hamilton?
witesoxfan replied to South Paw's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 21, 2012 -> 10:03 PM) Perhaps, but that would be what Hamilton has been asking, which is $175 Million for 7 years. It doesn't appear that any GM has been willing to give him that. He may not have any takers at that price. We'll see, soon enough I suspect. Let's amend my initial "$50" to "$25." He's going to get at least 5 years. You have alluded to it in the $100/5 deal. We will agree on that. I, too, believe that, due to age and prior history, he is going to struggle to get a 7 year deal, but that I think you could see an extremely unique sort of contract to which he is negotiated. But, $20 mill a year? That's a hometown discount number. Unless you have insider knowledge with regards to him wanting to play with the White Sox, there's no way he's going to take $20 mill a year. He's going to take the $25 mill that is offered to him. The absolute worst guaranteed money I see to him is $125 million. Unless something drastic comes out between this point and Christmas, he's going to get a monstrosity of a contract that would be horrendous to the entirety of the White Sox francise. Trivia question, with regards to this thread - how many $100+ million contracts have the White Sox ever signed with a baseball player? You have....(looks at fake watch, then looks at real clock)......5 years to tell me. -

witesoxfan replied to South Paw's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 21, 2012 -> 06:40 PM) The Sox will need at least a couple of middle of the order hitters after Konerko is gone next year, and then Dunn the year after. There are no big impact left handed bats waiting in the minors. Why not offer Hamilton 5 years, at $20 million per year, for a total of $100 million? Sure, the payroll would be higher for two years, until Konerko and Dunn are gone, along with their contracts, but at least the lineup would be competitive with the Tigers. Move Viciedo to 3RD, put Hamilton in his spot in Left, and call it an off season. They can offer Hamilton that, but he'd get a contract worth anywhere between $50-75 million more than that
