  1. OH WAIT HOLY S*** DID I FORGET TO TELL YOU GUYS THAT TOM BROKAW IS FROM SOUTH DAKOTA
  2. QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 09:10 PM) In my experience, the best part of knowing someone from the Dakotas is that they'll tell you about every person of significance from the Dakotas. iViva la Erstad! I tell people with pride that I hate that f*** out of that guy
  3. His snaps were down big time last week. They're throwing to him when he's in the game, but if they're going to give the snaps to Britt, Washington, and Cook, I don't want to play Wright.
  4. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 07:40 PM) I say Hernandez no question. He only played like 20% of the snaps last week as they eased him back and he still had double digit points. As for Wright or Williams, that's a tougher one. But I think Williams. It's all about how you trust Freeman b/c he is so hit or miss. Wright is losing targets, though, as Britt is finally healthy and getting comfortable with the playbook. And Nate Washington always gets a good number of targets in that offense/has good rapport with Hasselbeck. Those were my thoughts too, I think I just wanted to see someone say it too. With Williams, it's also a matter of trusting him too, because he isn't a high target guy, and those receptions can add up in a minute. Wright was a flyer last week filling in for Amendola (F***!) and I just need someone to fill in for him for a while. Wright's 13 were good last week, but I think you're right on that too. The Bills need (and have begun) to adopt the philosophical change the Texans have made. They both have one solid possession receiver, a solid receiving tight end, and two good running backs. The difference is that Schaub actually has arm strength, but the QBs never get in a rhythm and they're worse for it. Hernandez and Williams it is. I do love projections though. Brees was on a bye and Amendola is out. Inserted Ponder and Wright into the lineup. I was projected to lose by 20 points. Then I won by 33. Some was luck, but I have a pretty damn solid team all around. This week is all about matchups and time-shares though, because I have the Giants D against RGIII, Torrey Smith against the Texans D, and Fred Jackson vs CJ Spiller. There are other ways I can win otherwise, but I think the entire matchup depends upon RGIII.
  5. I think I know which way I'm leaning, but I need advice PPR league, standard scoring otherwise, WR/RB flex, do I start Kendall Wright or Mike Williams (TB)? Wright got me 13 last week and has a pretty nice matchup with the Bills for slot receivers, but Mike Williams has been really good the last 2 weeks and faces a terrible New Orleans pass defense. In the same vein, I need to start one of Scott Chandler and Aaron Hernandez. Logic says to start Hernandez, but the Jets generally play the Patriots pretty tough, and the Tennessee secondary and linebacking corps is not very good. Or should I just flip a coin and hope for the best? I'm 5-1 on the year and going up against the only other 5-1 team in our league, so winning would be pretty sweet.
  6. I thought this was an announcement by the poster
  7. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 03:52 PM) Per @JasonColeYahoo on @560WQAM, #Dolphins are potentially negotiating a deal for #Chiefs stud WR Dwayne Bowe. Because bringing in a talented but enigmatic receiver worked so well for them last time
  8. Worst thing he said he ever did was receiving/giving oral sex with the stepdaughter from his previous wife. Yeah.
  9. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 05:53 PM) We need to move those deer crossing signs ! North Dakotans are so stupid. Thankfully, I'm from South Dakota, where people are 5% smarter, and just so happen to live in North Dakota.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 04:03 PM) Why not just kill it? Your other posts are usually pretty good. Ask and ye shall receive
  11. Yeah, it's probably over the top. I deserve what I have coming to me
  12. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) Really. I thought Kaepernick looked pretty average. He isn't ready to face NFL defenses full time. Smith really had his first bad game of the year. He atleast has an NFL caliber arm and can make a play or two with his legs. To be fair, I've never liked Alex Smith, so I'm a bit biased.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 14, 2012 -> 01:47 PM) I still haven't had a time to write a dissertation on the subject. But I like his performance in pretty much every season. Do me a favor and kill that post. I mean, cmon. This is a family board. Can't we be civil? Do mean a favor and kill that post. I mean, cmon. This is a family board. Can't we be civil? I truly mean the things I write about Ozzie, so believe it or not, there are other Ozzie supporters in the city of Chicago. Quit living in the past Joe. Ozzie Guillen sucks. Move on.
  14. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 12:02 AM) Cabrera deserves the MVP and will get it. Trout is the rightful runner up and ROY. I mean, how about you just read it? I'd cite the facts again, but that would take away hits from Flapship. So, how about you just read it. Again. Because this statement is wrong.
  15. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 12:02 AM) [this was me] I..have..an..idea Cabrera deserves the MVP and will get it. Trout is the rightful runner up and ROY. yikes
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 02:20 PM) Even though SF lost, I have still have them up higher than the Giants. With Kaepernick starting, yes. Not with Smith. Smith throws a weak, soft ball. He is generally pretty accurate with it, but I just don't think he is as good as Kaepernick would be for that team.
  17. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 02:37 PM) It always sucks to go through something bad. I was with someone for almost 5 years, lived with them for 3. At first I could never imagine a day when I wouldnt want to talk to her or see her etc. That was over 5 years ago, we barely speak now. As bad as it was then, just one day you wake up and it isnt so bad anymore. This x100 I'm still on good terms with my ex, and one day, I was no longer bitter that she was with another guy but instead was actually happy for her. In the grand scheme of things we were never going to be happy together because I would have been a million miles from home with no family or friends around, and there was a matter of trust that had deteriorated in our relationship beyond repair. We still talk now and then, but not nearly as much as we did even 6 months ago. It took me almost 2 years to go on another date. That's not because I was busy getting over her - I was completely over the relationship more than a year ago (and I dwelled on it way, way longer than I should have) - but rather because I was simply waiting for the right opportunity. I had multiple chances and never felt the girl was worth it, so I didn't do it. This one felt right, so I did it. It's gone OK so far.
  18. QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Oct 13, 2012 -> 12:42 PM) Wite, did you get a second date with the girl you had mentioned previously? The first date sounded like it went well. She was actually sick with a cold on our first date but still went out anyway. It got worse last night so I made her stay in while we did a corn maze because I didn't want her out in the cold, and I think she was resting instead of coming out for drinks later. I'm gonna go see her in a bit and make her get up out of bed. Or I can climb into bed. Either is honestly good with me.
  19. Good for you. You sound like you're in a much better spot than you were a year or 2 ago, and you'll find the right one eventually.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 13, 2012 -> 09:03 AM) That type of stuff doesn't go in the s***ter if you pick the right girl. But you are right about the moping. There are so many girls out there, getting stuck on one and letting your breakup ruin your life is a waste of time. You'll find someone else in due time, just live your life, concentrate on what you want to do and it will happen. Nooo, not a waste of time, it is being wasted all the time. I was s***faced 5 of 7 nights a week. It was stupid. As it always is, you look back and see how ridiculous you were. For me, it's like we had our fun, we were a good couple (because you have to be to some extent to be with someone for long enough that it hurts when you break up), but at the end of the day, being together was simply not something we could have done. There was a lack of communication and a lack of trust within the relationship from both sides, and we were at different points in our lives upon graduation. There are times in that relationship that I look fondly of, but when you can get past the bulls***, you'll remember why you broke up, and that's because by the end of it, there was more bad than good. And, as cheesy as it is, The Eagles "Desperado" was the biggest song that turned me around. In my head, it nailed love, relationships, and the pain of breaking up and moving on right on the head. Plus it's a pretty good song so long as you don't hate the f***ing Eagles man.
  21. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 12, 2012 -> 01:21 PM) How old are you? LOL. For your second date, you guys should go play canasta and then watch antique roadshow until you pass out at 6 pm. Her 50 year old mom set it up, with her 40-50 year old friends. The entire point was just to get us to meet. I don't foresee playing bingo any time soon unless it's as a family get together. --- The date went really well. Like hot tubbing really well. Her parents were home, so there was nothing graphic, but it was a great first date.
  22. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 12, 2012 -> 11:37 AM) I've mentioned this several times before, but according to the research Tom Tango did on linear weights and the base/out probability, Adam Dunn is a prototypical 3 hole hitter. http://www.insidethebook.com/c05.shtml I recommend the reading, but the long and short of it is that the #3 hitter hits with bases empty and two outs more than anyone and also hits with 1 out and a runner on first more than anyone. Therefore, high power is the best attribute of a #3 hitter, and high strikeouts are actually desireable because they avoid double plays and don't hurt any more than other outs when they are the last out of an inning. The "traditional" #3 hitter prototype is really what the #2 hitter should be, who gets more RBI-on-a-basehit-or-extra-base-hit opportunities than anyone other than the #4 hitter, and is probably the most wasted lineup spot in "traditional" lineups. I actually LOVE Ventura's lineup construction because Youk/DUnn/Konerko/Rios makes so much sense according to this research. In retrospect, Rios probably should have been the #2 hitter, but #5 is a great place for him too and Youkilis was perfect for it when he was hot. Here's a bastardized summary, not nearly as good as the Book itself: http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2009/3/17...-your-lineup-by I suppose that makes sense, and I subscribe to the theory of having your 3 best hitters hitting 1, 2, and 4 too. Maybe I just want Dunn to be better.
  23. QUOTE (balfanman @ Oct 12, 2012 -> 09:58 AM) I couldn't care less what this does to Verlanders arm for the rest of this season. I actually hope that the Tigers win it all now. I hope that this helps Verlander have a dead arm all of the 2013 season. It won't. It'll be back next year.
  24. Bingo bango. The offense was abysmal in the second half of the year and they really need to try and find a way to get an impact bat in the lineup. I think Ventura could have worked the lineup a little better too, because Adam Dunn really is about the worst imaginable 3rd hitter I can think of. You generally want your 3-hole guy to be a guy who makes good, solid contact with some power and speed, and doesn't strike out an overly large amount. Adam Dunn makes terrible contact, has an assload of power, has virtually no speed, and strikes out at an incredible rate. The 3 spots you can do that are 3B, 2B, and LF, and I would say in that order too. The Sox currently have no one at 3B, so that's the obvious spot. Beckham has been incredibly disappointing offensively but is great defensively and is still cheap, so he can stick around too unless a crazy offer comes up. I bring up LF simply because it's an area with a lot of impact bats around the majors and Viciedo has quite a bit of value being young still while having a pretty good season. He could be a pretty solid bat though too, perhaps to the tune of an .825-.850 OPS, and I don't know that you want to give that up. There are probably other creative ways as well, and getting Konerko healthy will help, but those are the 3 biggest spots I see.
