  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 08:24 PM) Yeah...no one expected him to homer tonight I'm sure. Yes, I'm tooting my own horn in more than one place I'll toot my own horn as many times as she'll let me. Oh, and above average player? AJ has been the best and most consistent catcher for the White Sox in 20 years. We are closing into the period where number retiring becomes a legitimate question. He's been that incredible. I remember when he signed, because it was such an obvious signing at the time but there were any number of rumors regarding his whereabouts, yet it seems like he's been with the Sox forever and ever. At this point, I think it would be just as weird to see him in a different uniform as it did Buehrle or Thomas, even considering he's played for 2 other MLB teams.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 10:33 AM) This is totally AJ BTW. Have rumors swirl around him and then punch those rumors in the face. He's homering tomorrow night. Yeah, well f***ing boom. No, my predictions are not on steroids either.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 02:46 AM) I'm not whining. I'm standing up for AJP. All it was was a bad rumor. So dump the thread. No, absolutely not. Have you seen some of the s*** that's posted on here? There was a lot of smoke to this rumor, there were people on the inside as well as friends of posters on here talking about the validity of this rumor, and, fortunately, nothing has come of it (thus far). Oh, and don't sit in your throne all high and mighty and act as if you're the only AJ supporter in here. Several in here have defended AJ and admitted they would be absolutely crushed if the rumors were declared true. AJ has been one of my favorite players the Sox have had for a while and is one of the best parts about being a Sox fan. Had he tested positive, I would have absolutely wiped my hands clean of him (just as you would have) (just as I did Ozzie), and hated pretty much everything about him but would occasionally reminisce on the fond memories I had of AJ. And one more thing - at this point, you ARE whining, because a forum administrator has already stated that this will not be moved or deleted because it involved (potentially big) news regarding a White Sox player, and that has since been proven false (thus far). There is still good discussion to be had and there is no reason to move/delete/burn this thread.
  4. Game 6, 1991 World Series. Second is game 7, 1991 World Series. Third is game 7, 2001 World Series.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 01:55 AM) It unfairly discusses a NON ISSUE regarding a true White Sox, AJP. There is NO STORY thus the thread should be killed out of respect for AJP. It cheapens the site IMO as there's no story here. I guess if somebody starts a rumor on Youk or Paulie next we can all discuss it and keep the thread around forever. Bad form IMO. At least the name of the thread should be changed to a discussion of the idiot who planted the rumor. The only story is about a reckless anonymous poster, not AJP. It's the same reason WGN doesn't put the camera on the idiots that run on the field. They don't deserve the attention. Must you always whine?

  7. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 09:00 PM) Here is a good counter argument : http://majorleagueaholes.com/2012/08/29/why-aj-is-clean/ His doubles are way down. Also don't forget his 2011 ended early because of injury. But that gave him more time to get ready for 2012. Jesus, that is not a good counter argument. In fact, that's the argument for why Barry Bonds STARTED using steroids. If his doubles are down, it means he is turning more of them into home runs. You like doubles in the minors for guys that are 19-22 because they will still fill into their bodies a bit more and develop power. Guys have hit for more power as they've gotten older, but they usually haven't been catchers. Oh, and injured and gave him more time to get ready for 2012? How about steroids to help heal the injured area and then steroids to help him lift and get into better physical shape. I didn't read the article, and don't feel the need.
  8. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 06:54 AM) The Colts have a lot better team surrounding Andrew Luck than Peyton Manning had in his rookie season, and the AFC is very weak. I didn't pick them to make the playoffs, but I think they go 8-8 and finish second in their division. It's still got a lot of key players at both the old and the young spectrums, plus they're transitioning to a 3-4 defense as well. I think Andrew Luck is as much of lock as anyone since Peyton Manning to be a great QB, but there are still plenty of questions and concerns surrounding that team. I think they win 6 games.
  9. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 4, 2012 -> 10:36 AM) Eh, I'd go with this: NFC East: Philadelphia Eagles NFC Central: Green Bay NFC South: Atlanta NFC West: San Francisco NFC Wildcards: Chicago , New York Giants AFC East: New England AFC North: Baltimore AFC South: Houston AFC West: San Diego AFC Wildcards: Denver, Indianapolis NFC Championship: San Francisco over Green Bay AFC Championship: New England over Houston Super Bowl: New England over San Francisco I'm rooting for a Harbaugh bowl as they're two great coaches. I know they're predictions and all, and so opinions are opinions, but Indy? Really?
  10. He was kind of a small dude. Think I could have taken him in a fight.
  11. So I've been out for a while...when did they decided they needed a little more Jose Valentin on this team?
  12. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 06:18 PM) Viciedo is a work in progress that has shown serious flaws, Nate Jones is awful and John Danks is the most problematic of all. Viciedo has also shown some incredibly good signs about his future, I don't understand your contempt for Nate Jones, and John Danks is only problematic because he's a question mark coming into next year. He could easily be a good starting pitcher once again.
  13. Shawn Marcum would be an incredible get at this point in the process. Hell, he's an upgrade over Floyd. If he makes it all the way to the Sox, then Williams would be insane not to make a move, but that's just not likely at this point. He'd also have to make the move quickly to get Marcum eligible for the postseason too.
  14. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 26, 2012 -> 01:43 PM) This is true, the song would find us. Is that like how We Are the Champions found us after game 4?
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 10:21 AM) I get that...here's the counter point. Rangers are spending $120 million this year. Right now, assuming they pick up Feldman's option, they're close to...$120 million for next year with the arb guys...and that's with no Hamilton or Napoli. They're going to have to add a ton of salary to keep those guys. Why would you assume they'll pick up Feldman's option? He's a terrible pitcher and is due $9.25 million. They're not going to pick it up.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 20, 2012 -> 08:26 AM) 7 years? The guy is a well below average defensive SS, with an above average bat-for-position (a position he may not be able to stay at for long), serious attitude issues and a lot of mental mistakes. The $60M isn't as scary, really, as the 7 years. That is a big risk to take. Everyone is talking about how much he can improve because he is so young. Except, this guy has shown consistently he lacks the mental tools necessary to do that. That and the fact that he's in his essentially his 3rd full season in the majors and he has not improved offensively. He is still really young, but, you're right, there are way too many red flags to give out this kind of deal.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 10:06 AM) I agree, but the teams do have to be a part of the solution here. If SF knew about this and sat on this since before the AS break, they got a month and a half of production from a juicer, and it most likely impacted the division race significantly. I was reading that Cabrera was pretty much responsible for destroying Arizona by himself. I actually think the minimum salary idea is a good one. I actually don't think minimum salary is that good of an idea. You keep high priced players from doing it for the most part, but if there's a guy who is already making the minimum salary, there is no financial risk for him to try and hit the lottery. And worse yet, if said player making the minimum (and subsequent small amounts) does get through unscathed and signs a 5/$75 million deal, he suddenly has a lot more to lose by doing PEDs, so he will stop and the team is out a large deal of money. Down the line from there, you may see teams trying to avoid signing players to the Longoria contract, because these players may very well be doing steroids to try and cash in on a quick payday whereupon they'll quit using and revert to the player they were without steroids.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 10:25 PM) Good call. Think Jake Peavy 2011. Exactly, I imagine he'll come back and be pretty solid next year. It would have been nice for them to let him throw a few more innings, but if it's going to hurt him, keep him the hell away from the mound.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 10:27 PM) That Twins attendance is going to deteriorate quickly. Judging by history, they will be back at the 20k mark within five years. That's a possibility, but it is a gorgeous ballpark in pretty great location, and it seems that the fans have become pretty loyal over the previous 10 years. They might draw for a while, and I think they will. But with no real strong pitching coming up, and an offense that is not young by any stretch of the imagination, it might be a while before they compete again.
  20. They say: QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 10:37 PM) "Do you want your money now, or later?" He hears: QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 10:37 PM) "Do you want your money now and later?"
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 09:38 PM) I meant the fact that every single one of his clients cheats. That's what was shocking. Every one of 'em. No loyal men. He didn't say that. He said most do, like 90%. Oh wait, I'm silly, he did say that, but he also said that 90% of pro athletes cheat. Yay comprehension!
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 04:16 PM) Gets to face Zach Stewart in his first game. Haven't looked, but I'm sure he hit homers 2, 3, and 4 on the season.
