  1. I'm sorry, I just think the premise of the thread is a little immature. I didn't want to come in here and say "This thread sucks" because then people are going to do the whole "well why are you in here" thing. I don't mind telling people my opinion on the matter, and I do think that some of those things are a little over the top. Now that I have that off my chest, I can leave this thread forever.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 10:06 PM) Yes, but they've used their system to supplement their major league team. They already had homegrown stars such asSm Fielder, Braun, Weeks, Hart and Gallardo. Now they've built a top 5 pitching staff in all of baseball because they had the assets in the farm to do so. That's what a system is for. Not just for one or the other. But for a combination of both. And I will never be satisfied until the White Sox realize this. You've perfectly described exactly what the White Sox do, and then say that you wish the White Sox did that. You've also stated that you want the White Sox to have legitimate replacements at all positions on the field (which they do - they have replacement level quality all around the diamond, and better at some spots, and that's really all you can ask for), yet then state that you want the White Sox to use the system to supplement the major league roster - WHICH THEY DO AND HAVE DONE FOR 10 YEARS. I'm going to dive into the well of cliches, but I legitimately think at this point in time that the White Sox could have the best farm system in the majors, win 120 games, and win 3 straight World Series and you'd still find something to be unsatisfied about. Quit being such a goddamn downer. The White Sox signed Adam Dunn and Jesse Crain and while the Paul Konerko resigning isn't as exciting, he's still a good hitter. And they traded Linebrink, got a live arm for him, and they didn't have to pay the full $5.5 mill he was due. Pour another drink, sit back, and relax. You have like 10 more months to b****. Enjoy what has been a successful offseason.
  3. There are more than a few people who are upset the White Sox gave up 6 years of Dan Hudson for a year and a half of Edwin Jackson. The trade is over and done with, and it still irks me to this day that Williams made the move. However, Jackson has ridiculous stuff and, outside of one bad start against Kansas City, he was also pretty phenomenal. The organization obviously didn't have as much faith in Dan Hudson, and whether you agree with it or not, it's over and done with, and at the end of the day, the Sox have both Adam Dunn and Edwin Jackson now. They're going for it all this year, and if it doesn't work, they'll bring in all the prospects people can jizz over (and inevitably, people will be upset that the Sox are not winning, even if they do have a top 15 farm system). So can we just f***ing drop this? Seriously, burn these threads and blame it on the Twins.
  4. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 03:55 PM) The same GM completed both trades. I don't think it's ridiculous to look at what the Angels gave up for a far superior pitcher. They are still two very separate deals, with the Haren trade being the first deal he made. Williams overpaid, but jesus christ, it happened almost 6 months ago. Why is this still even being discussed? It's f***ing pointless and aggrivating.
  5. My guess for Knight's question would be Harold Baines. I know he played for the A's early in the 90s, is a well known player for the Sox, and would have been batting 2nd or 3rdd in 1991 because he was a damn good hitter. EDIT: Or perhaps 4th
  6. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Jan 4, 2011 -> 11:29 AM) Nice to see all the peace loving democrats out in full force. I was kind of thinking that too. It's a little over the top.
  7. Why would the Sox get insurance money for Peavy? I've seen it rumored here, but I really don't see how they would. Peavy pitched last year, and he pitched this year too. The point of an insurance policy is that you insure things that are devastating but aren't likely to happen...car insurances covers accidents, home owners insurance covers your house in the case of a damaging storm, life insurance helps cover what could happen if something were to happen to you. Jake Peavy getting hurt isn't devastating and was pretty damn likely. I understand that they would want something on a contract that size, but an insurance company would have had to have been run idiots to insure him without charging the Sox a huge premium, which essentially ruins the point of the insurance policy.
  8. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 01:52 PM) Probably. I consider him very good, but not great. However, his numbers best a lot of other just very good shortstops who are already in. I'm kind of a HOF hardass, though. I think it should be much more exclusive than it is. It's already the most exclusive Hall that there is. I think it'd be harder for it to get more exclusive. You have to let some players in, and some of them will be borderline.
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 12:05 PM) Dan Haren didn't even yield anything close to the talent Hudson is. How the hell did Edwin Jackson? It's evident Kenny overpaid. The Dan Haren trade was an outlier of a deal and comparing it to the Jackson deal is ridiculous.
  10. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 01:38 PM) In a world where Barry Larkin gets 62% of the vote, that's not an impossibility. Except that Larkin was ridiculously good, whereas Dewayne Wise was a bit player who made a great catch and was one of Ozzie Guillen's toys.
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 01:35 AM) I may or may not be close to taking this next drink. Whoops. Just took it. I don't believe this is a good sign if you are a Cubs hater
  12. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 09:26 AM) Besides Luck, none of the other QB's look all that good. I think this is actually a pretty solid QB class. Luck is the obvious #1, but Gabbert, Mallett, Newton, and arguably even Pryor too if he were to come out (he's supposedly going back, but I'll believe that when I see it), and I can certainly see one or two of those guys being top 5-7 players come late April. Beyond that, I don't think the Bills have to take a QB at 3. If they don't and then don't see the value or their guy in the 2nd, there are going to be pundits who say they're idiots, but I really don't believe so. For the first time in years, I believe the Bills have a coaching staff - atleast on the offensive side of the ball - that can develop late round draft picks. Ryan Fitzpatrick, though not good, is basically Jon Kitna from the Lions however many years back, before the Lions went winless (plus the BEARD, which gives him courage) - that is, a QB who is good enough to manage a team to the playoffs that has enough talent around him, but not good enough to lead a team to the playoffs on his one, hence the Bills 4-12 record this year. If the Dolphins fire Sparano, or, on a hugely lesser note, let Tyler Thigpen go, I would not be surprised to see the Bills pick him up. He was very successful in Chan Gailey's offense in the year he was OC in KC. No matter what, I expect the Bills to be competent offensively next year. Defense is a huge, huge, huge question mark still, and will still be after the draft. (two moves, both involving Denver, that I would not be surprised to see - Tebow being dealt (likely Buffalo, because they are in mad love with him), and the Broncos trading up one pick with the Panthers, no matter the cost, to get Luck, because Elway, without ever having seen a move he's made, already seems like a guy who wants his Stanford Stud)
  13. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 08:07 PM) And only about 14 weeks until the first "fire Greg Walker thread" will be made. Probably after the first Adam Dunn strike out or something. Can't wait
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 05:30 PM) This post is amazing Seriously, instant classic
  15. We doing it this year?
  16. QUOTE (lord chas @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 01:00 AM) are we already dismissing the twins? havent we learned our lesson that they just always seem to reload Nobody has dismissed the Twins. They've merely stated that the Sox are a more talented team than the Twins are. I don't think that's wrong.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 09:03 AM) Plays today are: New England - 5 Pittsburgh -6 Houston -3 St Louis -3 Hopefully I will do a little better than last week's 1-5 or whatever I like St. Louis and Pittsburgh. I know Belichick generally doesn't sub players, but I think losing Welker last year might make him rethink his philosophy on that, perhaps playing them for a quarter or a half. Plus, this seems like a game Miami can win just because they've underperformed all year. I also can't trust Houston's defense, no matter who is in the backfield, both at QB and HB for Jacksonville. With regards to Pittsburgh, they have to win, so they are going to play their ass off and they're playing a very mediocre Browns team. I don't think McCoy can beat them, so as long as they stop Hillis, they'll be fine. And with regards to St. Louis that's a must win game for both teams, but the Seahawks backfrield is absolute garbage, Hasselbeck is mediocre now a days and won't be 100% if he does play, and Whitehurst is absolute garbage if Hasselbeck is out. St. Louis is ismply a better team.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 1, 2011 -> 10:34 PM) The Sox would be a way better team in a scenario where they get a good OF prospect for Jackson, sign Soriano to Jackson's salary, and bring Garcia back for a reasonable amount. I think Garcia is going to cost about $5 mill, and he still brings in considerable durability issues. That'd be about $13 million, and really, is the upgrade in the bullpen going to be worth the additional $5 mill plus the downgrade in the rotation?
  19. Bears lost Juaquin Iglesias to the Vikings, if it matters to you Bears fans
  20. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 1, 2011 -> 02:02 AM) I want to resolve to get off the first page. It'll likely mean I've found multitudes of b****es to bang. Party on Wayne
