Tony Pena OH NOOOOOS

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 10:48 AM) The Allen trade only makes sense if PK is signed for another 4 or 5 years. It is dissapointing considering the return we have had from Pena. Contreras can still pitch he just wasn't for us for sure Dayan Viciedo is the 1Bman of the future, not Konerko.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 09:43 AM) This is starting to remind me strongly of the Brandon Allen threads. Are we really going to start devaluing Dan Hudson as a prospect just to justify putting Freddy Garcia into the rotation? Do we really need to break down every good thing that comes along? There may be people devaluing him, I don't know...I haven't read every post. The fact of the matter is that Dan Hudson has 26 innings in AAA and the majors, and a little more seasoning is not going to hurt. If you go into next season with Garcia as the 5th and Hudson as the 6th, getting innings in the minors, the Sox will not lose a ton of production. And then, if either Garcia or Hudson force the Sox to use Hudson as the #5, it will happen. I also do not see 200 innings as the next logical step in his IP progression. 180 is about perfect, as it's a step up but isn't huge.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 01:28 AM) Richard is 4-1 for the Pods? Me thinks we could have used him on the road trip from hell which only ended our season while Peavy was rehabbing. he has two quality starts with the Padres, these past two. And in 2 of the wins he got, he only went 5.2 IP, and gave up 3 and 4 runs. The Sox would not have won those starts. It's why W-L is one of the worst statistics to use in regards to pitcher evaluation.

IT SMELLS LIKE BIGFOOTS DICK

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 12:54 AM) It's great we all agree that we will look back on this trade as the best thing to ever happen. Thome was a cancer on this team and I smelled a rat from day 1. Mr Nice Guy Class Act s*** was just that, an act. His pull-happy, strikeout machine style of play has ruined us. Konerko can stay for as long as he wants, but Dye has to go too. Thome was the problem, not Konerko. Makes perfectly, sound, logical, reasonable sense.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 08:36 AM) Becoming at least somewhat knowlegable about your adult libations is just an occupational hazard, so no doubt we all get a little more educated over time. Don't sell yourself short even now - if you are approaching alcoholic beverages with any desire to know something about them and not just a desire to get buzzed, you're already more comitted to the process than most people. Wine is the one thing that I mostly go along for the ride on. I very much enjoy wine, but I admit that there are nuances to wine appreciation that I don't think I can ever really get. Come November, Rex will make fun of my enjoyment of "lollypop wine" when I get excited that the new Beaujolais nouveau comes in, but I like them so I'm happy. I like rieslings too, when I'm in the mood. I know some of the better ones can benefit from proper aging, but I don't think I've ever had a standard riesling that had more than a couple of years of age. I have, however, experienced several mouthfuls of vinegar that used to be riesling that aged too long under improper conditions. Yuck. ugh. That's actually what I figured would have happened with that bottle. I was admittedly quite drunk, but I haven't tasted sweetness in a bottle of wine like that in ages. The brown paper bag is actually a hell of a neat tool.
-
Not that I am aware of anything to do with wine in this thread, but even s***ty wine, given a certain time period in a brown paper bag, over a year period, can do wonders. I am actually currently consuming a very mediocre brand of Riesling, in the regards of Funf. It is a very, very cheap version of wine. It's amazing what one year in a brown paper bag, away from 99% of light actually does. It has been over a year since I bought this "bad" bottle of wine, but it's ultra sweet, tasting fantastic, and doing wonders to extend my drunkenness (I do firmly believe I can tell the difference between bad and mediocre wine. I still have never tasted good wine, white or red. This works for me right now). Anyways, it's very, very sweet, but there is a good, tongue tartness that you feel at the end. I'll say mediocre wine after aging, becauze I have never intentinoally aged a bottle of wine. That one was great though, and better than those exact models nowdadays. Trust me Flax and G&T, I'll get there. Give me 3 years. Hope both of you are still around. Hope I'm still around.

Freddy = Duque Hudson = McCarthy
-
Maybe it wouldnt hurt to keep Freddy Garcia around after all...
witesoxfan replied to IamPabloOzuna's topic in Pale Hose Talk
There is no way Torres should be sent down to get work while Hudson stays on the big league club in the bullpen. That was pretty much the exact same way that McCarthy fell out of favor within the organization, and Torres looks much more capable of becoming a reliever, especially considering he only throws out of the stretch. Hudson is also much more highly regarded and has a place in the rotation within the upcoming years, and as such, the team should look to increase his workload a bit going into next year in AAA to help build up that arm strength. If he can throw 175 or so innings next year in the minors, he's looking great, and at that point, he can also become the 6th starter should someone go down for an extended amount of time. He will be what Brandon McCarthy was to the 2005 White Sox. -
everyone and their mother knew Getz was going, and he still made it

Kotsay needs to be brought back next year

QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) True, you're right. But I'd still rather have him over Thome because of his age, better production and for the change. It's looking like the Nats want some quality young pitching though, so that might take him out depending on what they want. Where as you don't have to give up anyone and it only costs $2-5 mill for Thome on a one year deal.

QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) Sure, my "exact logic", that you just pulled out of your ass. I didn't say I wanted these "World Series heroes" to take Jim's place, I said he wasn't a fit on our team. With his high strikeout rate per at bat, and his continued non-ablility to come through in the clutch(besides of sourse 163), it's time for a change. Also I'm a big believer in just changing things up when they don't go your way. Different personalities in the clubhouse, different mindset, whatever. wow

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 02:17 PM) You had me until the Joe Morgan thing. I like Joe's analysis. Maybe he will manage sometime? Joe Morgan is the worst color man in the game. It's an absolute shame that he's still employed by ESPN, because his drivel makes absolutely no sense whatsoever nearly any time he talks.
-
He'll end up with the most wins of all time, so long as he doesn't resign from the position. I don't see the Sox brass having the stones to fire him.
-
QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 03:59 AM) If you could pull that off, you would have already done it. You're no Ron Jeremy. I'll remove my lower ribs if I have to.

QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 12:35 AM) I completely agree. This organizations philosophy regarding the DH positiong the past 15 years or so has been to stick a bad fielding hitter in the spot. I'm tired of having Thome/Baines/Thomas type guys in the spot when we can use the spot better like the Yankees and Angels tend to do and give guys more rest. I can't tell which part of this is serious.
