  1. on top of that, Suppan and Hall have negative value right now, and the Brewers really can't trade a starter who is almost assured of giving them 200+ innings of 4.25-5.00 ERA. Even if Suppan sucks, he's still pretty damn valuable to the Brewers, but not valuable on the trade market at all.
  2. At this point, it's just a thought as I haven't had time to even think of who needs a RFer, but they would trade one of their cost-effective pitchers because they have another one waiting in the wings who could be better than all 3 of those I mentioned. Also, so long as Balfour's magic doesn't completely wear off, he could easily close for them next year. He appears to have the mentality and he was absolutely dominant this season.
  3. QUOTE (MAX @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 08:58 PM) Oh, the money. I am not too worried about the sox over paying someone. I haven't seen that since . . . ? It's an opinion, as you could say they've overpaid for Contreras, Vazquez, Konerko, Buehrle...basically anyone they've signed to an extension recently. I'd say the last time they really dropped the ball was Navarro though, and KW wasn't even the GM when he was traded.
  4. Fatigue is also certainly a possibility as to why Ramirez started wearing down at the end. I don't recall how long the Cuban baseball season is, but Alexei played 140 games this year with 509 PAs.
  5. Quentin would play RF silly. There's like a zillion different scenarios that could play out too if you did that, which is one of the reasons it's so intriguing. Right now, with potentially decent offers, I'm looking at something like Hudson - 2B (probably the worst of them all, but he gets on and is quick enough to handle it) Ramirez - CF Quentin - RF Thome - DH Konerko - 1B Hardy/Beltre - SS/3B Pierzynski - C Beltre/Hardy - 3B/SS Swisher - LF The only real kicker in mine is if Tampa Bay is ready to get Price into the rotation, because their situation in RF was only so-so this year (.771 OPS from their RFers) and willing to spend a little money. I have Dye going there for one of Garza/Sonnanstine/Jackson, in that preferred order.
  6. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 08:41 PM) I said it in a few other posts, but if the Sox find improvements at 3rd and 2B/SS(which ever spot Lexi isn't), and Dye is moved, you probably could get away with Anderson as your CF. You can get away with one below average hitter in your lineup is he is providing you with excellent defense at a pivotal position. Now, if for some reason the Sox are planing on having Uribe or Getz as every day players(I know this isn't what Williams is thinking) than Anderson can't be in CF. I've become very intrigued with the thought of Alexei in CF to be quite honest. He seems quick enough to cover a ton of ground, has the bat to play it, a strong arm...he'd be a pretty solid choice. The question then is, can you find 3 players for 2B, 3B, and SS?
  7. Sabathia is going to get a Johan Santana like contract; with the number of innings he's thrown in the past 2 years and that amount of fat on his body, it just doesn't seem to bode well. I could easily see him turning into something close to Mike Hampton.
  8. QUOTE (ChisoxFurrious9 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 08:48 PM) No way in HELL would Anderson or Swisher start over JD after the past couple of years he's had. That's absolutly assinine. Dye would be traded I also believe that if Dye played all next year with the Sox, he'd either become or very close to a 10/5 player
  9. I really don't know why anybody wants any part of Sabathia.
  10. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 09:12 PM) Im still not 100% sold on him turning the corner, thats half a season of baseball and poor players can have good half seasons all the time. I do agree on you about Beltre being brought in would be a huge plus and that the Thome for Figgins trade is total nonsense. People keep bringing up Carlos Lee for Podsenick, well fact of the matter is we got ripped off on that trade. Yes we shed some salary but we easily could have shed his contract and recieved better players from most any other team. absolutely agree with everything, and I'm not necessarily advocating a trade for Hardy, I just really wouldn't care either way if he came to Chicago or not. He's a good player and an above average offensive shortstop, but if the team is really looking to get a more versatile offense, Hardy probably isn't the best choice even though, from what I've seen, his speed is more that of Juan Uribe than it is of Konerko or Dye. He'd help make the offense a little less station to station but I really could care less either way.
  11. They gave $22 mill, and the only kicker was if it was over 3 years or 4...if you are smart, you can make it out to however many years you want it to. The White Sox front office is smart.
  12. Unless Jerry Owens turns into Denard Span in some magical way, he should stay in AAA or on the bench.
  13. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 07:28 PM) You could also just straight up trade Konerko for Figgins. A nice challenge trade. Or trade Dye for Figgins or Thome for Figgins. All three kind of make sense. no they don't
  14. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 11:07 AM) Like in 2006? And 2007 was... um... Including the playoffs, the White Sox have won 90+ games 3 times out of the last 4. Are you still going to complain about a high payroll? Because if you do, that's absolutely f***ing ridiculous.
  15. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 07:07 PM) I dont think he is really all that good. He has some pop for a SS but his career high OBP is .343 and I once thought he was a plus defender but what Im hearing now is thats not exactly true. I truly think a lot of people will be dissapointed if we traded for Hardy as the season progressed. That career high in OBP came this year. He started seeing more pitches and, after a slow start, hit the s*** out of the ball from June 1 or so and onward. His peripherals are climbing upwards in a year in which pitching made a big time comeback, he hits for a pretty good average, and he has power, as evidenced by his 55+ XBHs the past two seasons. The only thing that concerns me is his defense, as I don't know how good it is, but if Beltre were brought in to play 3B as well, you'd have pretty good range between the 3B and SS. EDIT: from June 2nd to the end of the season
  16. QUOTE (MO2005 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 07:37 PM) Who thought Swisher would be leading off in 2008? Anything can or will happen with Kenny. The dude can draw walks and it was pretty much a consensus on Soxtalk that he was the best option for a leadoff hitter. Wilson can't and is just a pretty all around terrible hitter and Kotsay is way past his prime.
  17. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 06:59 PM) 1B) Konerko 2B) TBD or Ramirez SS) Ramiraz or TBD 3B) TBD LF) Quinten CF) Swisher baring a major acquisition RF) Dye C) Piersynski DH) Thome Bold are players who are locks for their position. I'll disagree with that.
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 07:52 PM) The real question is why we want JJ Hardy, he is exactly the type of hitter we have already. Because he's good
  19. QUOTE (MO2005 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 07:00 PM) Kenny will bring a leadoff hitter here who can do the little things! If you look at the trades or the acquisitions, you know it will either be someone who another team has dumped on for an old power hitter or a veteran who is 3-5 years passed due. In 2002 it was Kenny Loften, 2003 he got Roberto Alomar at the all star break, 2005 Scott Podsednik was a special case because the guy was coming off a 70 stolen base season. In my opinion it won't be Roberts because Kenny won't give up that much, it won't be Figgins unless Konerko waves his no trade (this could be a minor possibility like last year with the 1 for 1)...The ones I could see coming here are JACK WILSON from the Pirates because they need a bopper in that lineup and Kenny has dealt with the Pirates before and MARK KOTSAY fits here very well. No one is talking about these guys much...Hudson is wanted by Kenny, but I think someone will overpay for him. neither Wilson nor Kotsay should be anywhere near the leadoff spot for a team at any time in the future
  20. since no one said happy BDay, happy bday. Get bombed.
  21. QUOTE (BurlyMan56 @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 07:40 PM) Welcome Aboard Nate Mclouth, Ian Snell, Doug Brocail, Casey Blake and Robinson Cano. See ya OC, Crede, Macdougal, Logan, Griffey, Dye and whoever else it'll take to get those guys here. Yeah no
  22. QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 08:58 AM) If stats were the only criteria, there would be no need to vote. A formula could be produced that ranks various statistical category and a computer could figure the winner. There is a great deal of intangibles involved in determining "valuable" and that is what makes the award special. The intangibles that go into becoming more valuable than your stats. The Cards were pretty relevant in the standings for quite a while. Even with some pretty solid pitching, they are nowhere near contenders without Pujols in the lineup. He has the intangibles and the stats, and if anyone other than Pujols wins, it'll probably be a travesty.
  23. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 05:59 AM) They'll still win 11 or 12 games, which will be good enough to win the AFC East. Have faith! The injuries are piling up again on defense and they still don't have a dependable running back. I'll play it safe, say they win 10 games thanks to an easy schedule, and see an early round exit in the playoffs.
  24. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 02:34 AM) If Buerhle would've walked instead of resigning with us, he would've gotten an ACE-like contract, I have no doubt in my mind about that And if he didn't, it would have been a complete joke. He's giving the Sox a huge hometown discount.
