QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 10:57 PM) Not that it matters, but if John Danks was pitching in New York, the hype machine would be insane. they can have their hype...I'll take my playoff appearance (not that you meant it like that, I just like cliches)

AND THATS A CENTRAL DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!
witesoxfan replied to kapkomet's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If Javy mans up, I feel really good about this team. Ozzie knows how to put this team in a position to keep runs off the board in the late innings (with a lead, get Anderson in CF in the 7th or 8th), and the bullpen is starting to come back together. Jenks looked phenominal, Thornton is still dealing, Linebrink looked untouchable against Detroit, and if Carrasco and Dotel can just hold the fort down while Ramirez can be a decent LOOGY, I like the bullpen. I still want Wise out of the lineup, but it is what it is. He's completely overmatched by major league pitching. Late inning switch taking PK out and moving Swisher to 1B with Wise in LF is fine by me, but I don't think I'll get my wish. -

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 08:54 PM) I don't go into chat very often but Fathom invited people after the Twinkies swept us. I remember saying every time the Twins got a hold of 1st place they gave it right back . I think you were there . I actually thought of that...it was as if they loved playing as the underdog but couldn't stand being the team expected to win. Too many young guys and they just went into defense mode. The only time they ever played very well was when they were behind the Sox. Both teams had the ability to put the other away several times, and neither did until tonight. Let's get Thome and Griff the rings both deserve. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 03:21 PM) I hate this award. Cliff Lee is deserving because he came back from spending time in the minor leagues after being demoted last year. But what about Lidge? He only pitched 2 more innings and 6 more appearances this season then he did last season. So what did he come back from, being bad? That's a dumb argument, and it's realistically not a valid one either. He had a 3.36 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and .219 average against last season with a strikeout ratio well over 1 per inning, so it's not like he was total garbage. Though he wasn't the closer all season, Lidge still blew 8 saves in 27 opportunities last year, yet didn't blow a save all season this year. I have no problem with the results, even if Gabe Kapler probably would have been a better choice - there are almost always better choices, but this award doesn't really mean a whole hell of a lot as it is, so it's a big who cares.

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 10:17 AM) Isn't he out for 6 games? yeah I think he had some ligament surgery on his hand or something His loss and McGee's loss really aren't monstrous on special teams because McKelvin is supposed to be a stud on returns too. The Bills have been able to find shifty athletes pretty well over the past few years so they're deep in that area. -
what on earth has Justin Morneau done to deserve MVP consideration? you know, other than hit behind 3 guys that get on at a .386, .336, and .415 clip respectively. Pedroia should be the MVP of the league. His OPS+ is lower than Morneau's, but, without even looking, I imagine his VORP is a ridiculous amount higher. Honestly I'd prefer Hamilton winning the MVP over Morneau.

The Bills are a good second half team. I do want to see a little more production out of Lynch...he scares me because, while he's a workhorse, he just doesn't have that explosiveness you want out of a top tier running back. If he does, I have yet to see it. Frankly, I think Fred Jackson might be a better running back than Lynch is. The defense is great but they just took a monster hit losing McGee. I think Arizona beats the Bills this weekend unless the D can get to Warner a few times and force 3-4 turnovers. -
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 29, 2008 -> 10:18 PM) Which is funny cuz just not too long ago, that's what Philly fans were saying about Gavin. Luckally he grew a healthy pair (he has REALLY grown in front of our eyes) whereas Javy (who I love btw, a couple notches below Blake) is still on the ripe, wrinkled pair. Still sexy though. I have soured heavily on Javy. He just doesn't give a s*** and gets lackadaisical. I was pretty sure the Sox were going to win Saturday night because he looked filthy, and then he got f***ing rocked. I think he'll be back next year, but I'd put it at 3:2 odds. He's in Ozzie's doghouse and players that are in Ozzie's doghouse - even those that KW likes - generally don't last long.

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Sep 29, 2008 -> 10:17 PM) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58CJih1iYC0 Steve Perry was sooo 2005... we need a little mercury power god I love you -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 29, 2008 -> 10:08 PM) I prefer to think of Quentin as Achilles, lol. Or maybe Contreras is...and Quentin can be El Gran Titan de Stanford. Seeing as how Contreras blew out his Achilles and is considered a titan...yeah he's achilles. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 29, 2008 -> 10:10 PM) "God" still applies to that man. And Heracles/Hercules was a mortal man made a god. Hence the reference.

Minnesota @ Chicago - One Game Playoff
witesoxfan replied to Heads22's topic in 2008 Season in Review
If Blackburn gets hit around early tomorrow, I see the Twins going to Liriano. They're saving him for game 1 but if Blackburn gives up 3-4 in the first 3-4 innings, I could easily see them having Liriano go game 3. So get 2, load the bases, and hit a granny, and then hold the lead. It's nice actually playing a meaningful game of baseball on the last day of September though. -
QUOTE (SnB @ Sep 28, 2008 -> 10:15 AM) remember when heads didn't drink? life sucked

I really don't like that quote in the least.
-
I would like Gomez as much as I liked Erstad. If anything, I'd trade damn near anybody on the team for Denard Span. A CF with an arm who hits for average, is disciplined at the plate, and can steal bases...he's a 4-tool outfielder with an eye. Carlos Gomez might have more power, but he's also a moron of a baseball player who can't draw a walk and misreads a lot of balls in CF.
-
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 10:03 PM) Especially since Konerko was holding on Gomez and should have been close to the line anyways. The problem appeared to be that before the pitch was thrown he moved towards second base, then had to scurry his slow ass back towards the line to catch it. Obviously failing miserably. Konerko could stay or leave, I could care less either way really. He's better than what he's been this season, but whatever.
-
Ozzie was quite thoroughly outmanaged in this series too. I still don't understand why the lines weren't being guarded for Span's triple.

QUOTE (CQMVP @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 09:40 PM) I can't support a bunch of no-heart losers like the guys on the Sox.... Just won't do it. Firesale on all but the following players: Jenks Thornton Linebrink Ramirez Quentin Buehrle Floyd Danks Linebrink Everyone else can f*** off for all I care. Our big money players COMPLETELY disappeared in September. How does AJ suddenly go retard with calling pitches to Gomez/Span? Seriously. On top of his pathetic performance at the plate in September, he adds those pitch calls to the pile of s*** that was the last month of the season? Wow... Dye, Thome, Konerko, all too old to make the run at the end of the season that is necessary to win a WS. Ship them, and ship them ASAP. Why on earth would you not feel out what people would trade for Jenks? -
Wise has been exposed for the 5th outfielder that he is. And how do you not get 1 f***ing run off of that bullpen? Changes are needed and I wouldn't be surprised to see a few heads roll.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 05:37 PM) Disagreed. Although it is undoubtedly a great episode, I believe the cake goes to the episode where they start a band and play halftime at the Superbowl. THAT EPISODE SUCKS

QUOTE (daa84 @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 08:48 PM) didnt feel like the twins hit a ball hard the entire night...dye has to do something...when quentin went down he had to step up and he stepped back...blown call from the ump certainly didnt help...gotta win tomorrow Nobody to blame but themselves, but that blown call f***ing sucked. I don't know how he missed that. Tonight, I will drink, and it will be mournful but also awesome. Gavin needs to be my boy tomorrow...if he wants to be the ace of this staff, it's his job to win the game tomorrow. Don't count on any more than 2 runs. Shut those f***heads down.
-
That one hurt more. I'd like to see Swisher or Anderson in CF and Griffey in RF tomorrow with Dye lower in the lineup. They are just going right after Dye and he isn't doing a f***ing thing. It would also be nice to have Dye on the bench for the later innings when they bring in a lefty. Oh Carlos Quentin, where art though right now?
