  1. You only lose the one draft pick though. The other is given to the team as a sandwich pick.
  2. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 01:32 PM) I've got no doubt Uribe will be brought back after what he did at the end of last season. Would still prefer to see him as an utlity man though over the long - term. Aaron Hill could be a guy you could try to buy low on, and if he doesn't get back to 2007 form, you go with Getz or Uribe at 2B. I'd still like to see a more balanced lineup though, and we'll need improvements at 2B/3B/CF for that to get done. Aaron Hill is interesting too...it'd have to be pretty cheap if he were brought in though. More or less I'm just willing to give him a chance as a stopgap and to see if his high contact rate can make him a viable option at 2B. It wouldn't hurt to have a guy that makes contact as much as he does at the bottom of the order, and getting a little bit of speed in the lineup wouldn't hurt either, even if he's not super fast. If he flops, use Beckham or someone else from inside or outside the organization the following season. The Red Sox philosophy (and KW's too for that matter, it's just that his players didn't turn out well) of filling holes from within and spending money on big bats is actually a damn good plan. I expect to go into next season as the division favorite but I also expect quite a few moves this offseason as well.
  3. QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 12:50 PM) What a douche. It's not even like they were insulting him. It was just a funny impression, and he was talking to animals, who cares? Haha Some people want to eat you but I just want to talk to you!
  4. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 11:14 AM) I just chuckle that the guy that replaced him has won 6 playoff games while Sweet Lou... ...has lost 6 straight playoff games with the Cubs.
  5. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 10:36 AM) But we are going to have at least 20-25M to spend this off-season IMHO, and we need improvements at 2B/3B IMHO. Putting Getz at 2B, is a lot of pressure to put on someone who most see as only a future utlityman at best. Hitting 9th though? I've warmed up a bit to atleast giving Getz a chance, but Uribe coming back has to become a necessity at that point and not just an afterthought (well, Uribe or someone like Alex Cora or whoever). You don't need a world beater to come in and take over the position, but you need some type of backup plan if you want Getz as the starting 2Bman next season. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 12:20 PM) Timo Perez, Pablo Ozuna, Wilson Valdez, Paco Martin, Christian Guzman, Carlos Gomez, Ramon Vasquez and the tons of other players like them all stand up and say hello. Pablo Ozuna was once the #8 prospect in the game before his age caught up to him (in a literal sense). I also don't get how you classify Carlos Gomez as a grinder. He's a talented player who sucks ass right now. He's going to be like 23 or 24 next season, and with a little help, he still has the capability of being a 20 HR 40 SB player. As a matter of fact, Jimmy Rollins age 23 season was very, very similar to that of Gomez's age 22 season this past year. The main difference was that Rollins was a bit more disciplined at the plate, walking 54 times compared to Gomez's 25, and he struck out 103 times, opposed to the 142 times of Gomez. Classifying Gomez as a grinder is just wrong.
  6. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 12:23 PM) Dynamite sounds better than paper. But I assume you used all 4 instead. I agree with it's stupid how paper covers rock. Dynamite blows up rock, rock smashes scissors, scissors cuts dynamite, that sounds better. What was the hand gesture for dynamite? one index finger + sound effects
  7. again, I like the thoughts, but I imagine Sheets is going to get $15+ mill a year, even if on a short-term deal (and I could still see him getting 5 guaranteed). I also am not a fan of either Bill Hall or Mark Teahen, as both have been in downward trends over the past 2 seasons, which is a warning sign as far as I'm concerned. I also don't think that Swisher alone has the value to get Kelly Johnson, but he's an intriguing player all the same.
  8. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 14, 2008 -> 09:21 PM) But she's a MILF, dude! Yeah man! Well, she is. That's not why I'd vote for her if I did, but she is.
  9. The thought is nice, but the Twins got 4 players for Santana, and he was in a walk year. Peavy is in the same boat, though his year end ERA was helped something crazy by pitching in Petco (1.74 ERA at home, 4.28 on the road), but he's also in the middle of a very easily manageable deal. He's worth 3 good prospects, and he's someone the Sox probably have no hope of getting.
  10. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 14, 2008 -> 07:23 PM) It's exciting to think of what he could become, Major League Baseball should be quite entertaining in the coming years. The past two seasons really feel like a changing of the guard. These older, sometimes PED infested players are being weeded out and young studs are coming up essentially out of nowhere. The game is going in good places, and I like seeing it.
  11. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 14, 2008 -> 06:37 PM) Anyone on here still believe Alexei Ramirez was the best rookie in the AL this year? Evan Longoria is a monster. 5 HR in less than 8 postseason games as a freaking 22 year old. The emergence of Longoria is crazy...reminds me of Braun last year, except that instead of not being able to play defense, Longoria plays ridiculous defense.
  12. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Oct 14, 2008 -> 01:45 PM) Actually I was referring to Airheads. so you agree that lemonheads suck
  13. QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Oct 14, 2008 -> 03:44 PM) Seems like everyone is still over willingly accepting to give CQ a mulligan for putting himslef before the team. Don't get me wrong, if he doesn't have the year he did/could have, we wouldn't even be close to sniffing the playoffs. However, if he wouldn;t have been so damn selfish you might be STILL playing. He hurt the team when we needed him most in an unexcusable act. That being said, the man is our future, and I won't lose any sleep by White Sox fans giving the man an A for the effort on his unfinished season. You've never seen a player hit his bat in frustration? Quentin's fracture was bad luck and I'd blame it on nothing pretty else.
  14. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 05:07 PM) is columbus day a major holiday? i never get it off We observe it, but that's because it's Native American Day and there are quite a few in the area. Works for me, I got drunk last night and didn't have class today.
  15. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 11:48 PM) Wrong. Not even the best candy with heads in it's name. but lemonheads suck
  16. I think Alexei is a bit overrated in the infield and that he'd be a fantastic CFer, but everything depends on what becomes available.
  17. The Phillies lineup and bullpen is just too damn good. Oh, and Werth is one of my favorite players in the game. I just love how he goes about his job.
  18. I usually piss on her leg, and if she doesn't leave, she's a keeper.
  19. I believe I've said it before - Warheads are the greatest candy of all time.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 03:00 PM) They are sweet, but if you stick to 4:2:1:1 as your pineapple/rum/oj/coco lopez ratio, and if you dust with fresh grated nutmeg like the original Soggy Dollar Bar and Pusser's incarnations do, I think it's a well balanced drink. Yeah I had it at a restaurant and it wasn't nearly as good as yours sounds. We actually just got it in a big bucket and split it between 3 people. I was expecting to walk out of the place pretty drunk, but a high tolerance and the apparently limited amount of alcohol in it left me feeling just OK.
  22. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Oct 11, 2008 -> 07:00 AM) i have nowhere near the emotional attachment to those 4 players as i do dye/jenks/buerhle, it will come with time i'm sure Like I've said before, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if Dye is traded.
  23. QUOTE (beck72 @ Oct 11, 2008 -> 02:03 PM) I just thought you were comparing him to Cintron. Cintron's OBP was only 30 points higher than his avg. Getz has avg'd 70 pts more than his batting avg. Getz had some pop this yr. But that's not what is needed from him. If he hit .260 he'd probably be a worse player than Cintron. That's all. I do not feel he has the capability of being a full-time starter at this point. I'd like to see him on the bench and as an emergency/fill-in starter. Depending on anything more than that is scary.
  24. QUOTE (beck72 @ Oct 11, 2008 -> 12:41 PM) How so? Getz' M.O. is supposedly making contact, walking as much as striking out, being able to situational hit, having on OBP about 60 points higher than avg, with some ability to steal bases, and decent defense. Getz may not hit .280 right away. But a comparison to Cintron?! Not likely. He's got limited power and only decent OBP. He has a spot on the team, and I'm not saying he wouldn't be valuable, just that, statistically, he would be a liability. He seems to fit the Eckstein/Miles mold pretty well.
