OCT. 26, 2005: THE BEST DAY
Uribe very well may have had the greatest defensive inning in World Series history outside of Willie Mays. That moment will live on with me forever.

Rocco Baldelli
QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Oct 27, 2008 -> 10:26 PM) terrible idea to get baldelli of course, but I love that damn guy. I've been hopin for three years we would get him, but I'm glad we didn't. Find a Cure for Mitochondria! QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 27, 2008 -> 11:06 PM) Um, you might want to rephrase that. Basically you just said the equivalent of "Find a cure for arms" or "Find a cure for blood". LOL

Swisher Analysis
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 27, 2008 -> 11:36 PM) Batting average is a meaningless statistic in the greater scheme of things. Batting Average does not a good player make. I'll disagree with this 100%. You can be a damn good player without batting average, but batting average CAN make a good player. If Alexei hits .270 this season, he's a statistical liability at the plate; those 10 extra hits he got to make it .290 rather than .270 turned him from a slightly below average hitter to a slightly above average hitter. A high batting average will also bring a player's OBP and SLG up. Alexei Ramirez was a better hitter than Nick Swisher this season because he hit 70 points higher; his OBP was 15 points worse. If the same hypothetical from above is brought in here, Alexei's OBP would have been lower than .300 using the same IsoOBP.

What movies have actually made you cry?
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 11:52 PM) If anyone has seen the movie Without Limits (about runner Steve Prefontaine), the end gets me every time I watch the movie. Just a great movie if you enjoy running. one of my favorite quotes of all time comes from that movie girl: Do you believe in God? Prefontaine: I believe in myself. I don't subscribe to it, but I just love that quote so damn much. Just outstanding.

Jack Zduriencik named Mariners GM
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 27, 2008 -> 08:34 PM) He's going there to collect a paycheck. That's the only reason I would go. Because a struggling franchise has never been turned around before and you wouldn't want to put your name on that?

2008 World Series - Philadelphia Phillies vs. Tampa Bay Rays
QUOTE (SexiAlexei @ Oct 27, 2008 -> 09:04 PM) This might be a stupid question, but if it keeps raining or gets worse, what happens if they call the game? Does Philly get the W, or do they start it up again tomorrow? I'm sure they'd get the W, and it would suck, but those are the rules. But what are the official rules if the rain delay is called in the top half rather than the bottom half in regards to Tampa trailing and in the bottom half if Philly is trailing? Do they just postpone it?

Official 2008-2009 NFL Thread
The Bills are a fraud because they flew 2000 miles west and faced a Cardinals team that - surprise - threw the football all over the Bills defense. The Bills are also a fraud because they turned the ball over 4 times, were tackled for a safety, and played an all-around s***ty game and damn near beat a Miami team in Miami (that game was much closer than the 9 points that separated the two teams at the end of the game) when Miami - again, surprise - threw the ball all over them. Their secondary is still banged up, but it's getting healthier, and if Schobel can come back and continue getting pressure on QBs, the Bills will be fine. It's hard to run against them, but you can pass the ball all over that defense if the DE's are not getting to the QB. You tell me which teams in the AFC East are or are not frauds, and I will call you a liar. I still don't think New England's schedule has been harder than the Bills yet, and I still haven't ruled out any team in the division (I've made a similar post earlier). I did say that I think you can "probably" forget about Miami, but that they are a solid team with a good sense of direction.

Bruce Levine on ESPN 1000
QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 25, 2008 -> 05:16 PM) I'd be willing to take that risk. By 2010, he will have the 1st base job. .265 25 HR 80 RBI 90 BB is not out of the question for 2009, if he gets a starting job. .265 is pretty unreasonable seeing as how he's hit .260 just once in his career

What do we spend our money on this off-season?
QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Oct 23, 2008 -> 11:44 PM) MLBTradeRumors mentioned we may be interested in Mike Lowell. Anyone care to comment on that? I have kind of mixed feelings on the matter. The Sox just got done with a 3Bman with back issues...why would they trade for another who has a pretty bloated contract?

Country-themed mini-parties
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 23, 2008 -> 03:02 PM) I can give you THE rum runner recipe if you are interested. I can also give you my version of a killer "1 of sour, two of sweet. three of strong, four of weak" authentic Jamaicain rum punch recipe that uses Wray and Nephew overproof to very nice effect. I have a nice tiki shooter called Walk the Plank as well. Lifelong beer guy though I am, I have taken a hardcore diversion into faux tropical/tiki/Caribbean rum drinks this past year. Last night I made some tweaks on an unbalanced Appleton rum and sweet vermouth drink with a couple ounces of passionfruit juice and a couple of dashes of bitters and ended up with a really nice keeper cocktail that I think I'll dub the Passionate Pirate. I want you... ...r recipes. I am intrigued as hell.

Texas Tech student wins free rent and...kicking job?
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 22, 2008 -> 05:39 PM) Wouldn't the free rent make him ineligible? It's a scholarship of some type I'm sure, or some rule such as that. I mean, guys that play on the football team their freshman year and have to live in dorms get their rent paid for them too, but it's just apart of their scholarship.

Country-themed mini-parties
We are actually going to do Jamaica but I'm definitely bookmarking this thread for future use. I think we're going to make a strong Rum Runner and we'll figure out a nice shot to take.

Country-themed mini-parties
So we are doing country theme parties for every room in the house, and I'm a bit lost as to what I should do...it doesn't have to make perfect sense, but it has to atleast work. One guy is doing Canada and he will be having shots of Icehole in his room, another is Mexico with margaritas, and another is Russia with shots of vodka and white russians. I would be someone like Germany because there's a gazillion possibilities, but I don't want to be stereotypical. Or I could and do Jag bombs (I f***ing shower in that s***), but we'll have to see. Any other suggestions?

State of our starting pitchers
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Oct 22, 2008 -> 02:57 PM) Here are Weeks' numbers over the past 3 seasons FWIW; 06 - .279/.363/.404 07 - .235/.374/.433 08 - .234/.342/.398 I think if he was available, the Sox should definitely have a look at him at least. I wouldn't play him at 2B though. I don't trade Vazquez for him though. I'd trade Vazquez for Hardy and that's about it from Milwaukee. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 22, 2008 -> 03:29 PM) The man traded Liriano, Bonser and Nathan for AJ, signed Zito, made a habit out of signing over the hill veterans, and drastically undervalues Tim Lincecum. I don't think we can put to many positive spins on his intelligence. I would like to know how you know he undervalues Lincecum...because I imagine if he did that, Lincecum would be in a different uniform right now. In other words, I highly doubt he undervalues Lincecum.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Oct 22, 2008 -> 03:47 PM) what's his fly ball/ground ball ratio? career is 1.07, and I'd guess it's close to 1.10 over the past 5 years. He gets a lot of his outs on strikeouts though too.

Jack Zduriencik named Mariners GM
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Oct 22, 2008 -> 02:47 PM) And my guess is Mike Rizzo ends up with that job. How Bowden still has a job there, I don't know. Hasn't exactly been the greatest "people" person there by all reports either. As I recall, he is also involved with the bonus money skimming as well.
