QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 10:43 PM) What is it about being a RB in Buffalo that makes you lose your mind? Nothing but Applebees, TGI Fridays, and Dave and Busters. Oh, and Canada -
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 04:23 PM) KWjr. is strikingly similar to Jerry Owens in his stance and approach (at least from the left side). I would not be surprised if KW had KWjr work with Jerry Owens in the offseason and such. KW has the fascination that fast guys with weak sticks should have goofy stances that provide them with no power. Which is why Jerry Owens has 0 plate appearances with the Chicago White Sox this season. Yep, some fascination. Owens was a solid prospect when he was traded for a waiver claim. The Sox essentially claimed Owens off waivers from the Expos/Nationals for a player they were likely going to lose (who, BTW, has never had much more than a cup of tea ever in the majors). And, before anything about Podsednik is thrown out, that was much more of a financial move than it was a baseball move. Ken Williams does not warrant the assertion that he has some fascination with fast guys that have weak sticks. Darin Erstad is not fast, so he doesn't fall in, and I never understood that obsession.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 02:14 AM) OF Jordan Danks: We all know he has 1st round talent but the Boras factor played into him falling into the 7th round. A guy who can do it all, a 4 1/2 tool player as his power numbers aren't quite there yet. I'm hoping he turns out to be what we all expected, and more, of Brian Anderson/Jeremy Reed. If Danks can be Jeremy Reed, I'd be ecstatic.

I actually think Lou Piniella does understand that there is a bit of importance in the crosstown series and will attempt to align the rotation to get Zambrano facing us. Just a thought though. There's also the possibility that Piniella knows that the Sox hit good fastballs and he will leave the rotation as is.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 10:42 AM) I thought he could bounce back and be a decent #3 or #4 starter. Basically giving you Garland-like numbers. I'm actually shocked at his sometimes dominance this season. I don't recall how I was all offseason on Contreras but I definitely recall wanting to get any body with a shred of talent for him while also eating some of the contract. He's definitely figured some stuff out. I do also recall having a conversation with one of the posters on here about how these Cubans really tend to reinvent themselves...Contreras has gone from a power pitcher who looked for the strikeout to a groundball machine. There's an article up on rotoworld about how he has like 60% groundballs this year and his control has been awesome. He's generally been a little wild every year he's pitched, but his control is the best it's been in his career... 2004 - 4.4 BB/9 2005 - 3.3 BB/9 2006 - 2.5 BB/9 2007 - 3 BB/9 2008 - 2.3 BB/9 ...and the only year that's even close is his 2006, but he was allowing much more homers than too, presumably because he was allowing more flyballs too. The 3 homers he's allowed is a bit crazy, but he has been absolutely fantastic thus far. Let's hope he can keep it up and continue pitching his ass off, because pitching is easily the biggest reason this team is in first place.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 10:37 PM) I saw some idiot throw a home run back the other night. The good news is a lot of people told the ushers of this nonsense, and he was thrown out. DO YOUR PART!! If you see some assclown throw a home run by the other team back, find an usher and identify the assclown. We don't want losers who throw home run balls back instead of giving it to a kid. The Cell isn't Wrigley, so don't throw s*** on field, especially baseballs. That would actually be a good marketing ploy...advertise how Sox fans can separate themselves from Cubs fans by letting the game continue to play and helping out a little kid too.

This team is clicking right now. I could easily see them sweeping this homestand. I am, literally, in love. I mean, when the toughest matchup on paper for the team is one where the opposing pitcher is Livan Hernandez, you are looking good.

Marshawn Lynch is an absolute moron. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 12:55 AM) We draft a second baseman? Hope he projects better numbers than most second basemen. He's not a 2B, he's a SS. There's thought that he's going to have to end up moving to either 3B or 2B, but as of this current moment, he's a SS.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 09:33 PM) Collaro was the odd man out in Charlotte because he could only DH. They would have to cut someone else loose to make room for Cook. But, I'm not convinced he's going up. This is the White Sox after all. They don't reward success with promotions. You mean Ehren Wasserman was never on the MLB club this season? And DeWayne Wise wasn't called up after he killed the ball for Charlotte? Or Jack Egbert in the rotation for the Knights? Yeah, no promotions at all.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 12:58 PM) Everyone was saying the same thing...into 2006. They played 162 games that season, and of those 162 games, they outscored the opponent in 90 of them. That's the 3rd most times they've outscored the opponent in a single season this decade! Get f***ing real, the reason people were excited about the team in 2006 is because it was a damn good team that saw the pitching fall apart and the offense fall asleep in the second half of the year. That team was on pace to score 950 runs with Scott Podsednik and Tadahito Iguchi at the top of the order and a rookie/s***ty defensive veteran in CF (no fault to his own that he was out there). Atleast make sense when you are arguing, please.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 05:35 PM) I think Bonds would have bought himself some bottle of strength training injections from one of the many corrupt businessmen out there, tried the stuff, and wound up destroying his career because of contamination of the product. Actually I imagine he probably would have been a 500/500 guy, like he was before steroids.

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 09:00 PM) I've seen Smoak play his whole career at South Carolina obviously, and I'm still much happier with the Beckham pick. Middle infileders with a good bat are harder to get than 1B/DH types. I don't get all the peoples animosity....guys who play first/DH that have power are a dime a dozen, and yes I know he is a switch hitter. This is just as important as anything else in my mind. Unless you are absolutely dead set sure that said player is going to turn into a .950 OPS player at the very least or will be able to move to an outfield spot, you shouldn't draft a college 1Bman with the #1 pick. That, and the fact that the Sox just got their best hitter for a 1B prospect that they drafted in the 15th round too. Oh, and for anyone that cares, a list of players who played in the MLB at Georgia. Nobody really eye-popping, but there were some respectable players.

QUOTE (chiguy79 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 02:33 PM) Sox were idiots to fire their last marketing company...I agree the new ads suck... attendance is the highest it's ever been. I'd say they're doing a pretty damn good job. The FUNdamentals area is apparently a real hit and he's brought in a mascot as well. What else can you really ask for from a marketing department? The kids you make as fans now will be the main financial support for your team 15-20 years from now. It's investing.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 12:17 AM) The eye test, which is why I say wait until the end of the year and you'll see the Phillies leading the NL in runs. They are going to very well possibly have 3 MVP's in their lineup by the end of the year with Utley a favorite, and that doesn't include Pat Burrell and his near 1.000 OPS. Their lineup is unreal. I'd give a bit of credit to the hitting coach too, whoever that may be. Rowand was a mess when he left Chicago, and he earned himself a huge paycheck. Rollins was always a solid hitter, but he turned into an MVP within the past few seasons. Howard's always had the talent, but Utley didn't start hitting until he was about 26. Pat Burrell, who you mentioned, is having his best year since 2002. Chris f***ing Coste is somehow a hell of a major league backup catcher, hitting the absolute s*** out of the ball, when his career minor league OPS was .756. Yeah, I'll give a bit of credit to him. To say a hitting coach has no effect on a team full of veterans is BS. Burrell is 31 and Coste is 35, and Rollins has become an absolute freak of nature in the past couple years. Quite a bit of this also stems from the hiring of Pat Gillick. He and Schuerholz may be the best GMs of all time, but I may give even more credit to Gillick simply because he's taken 3 different teams and led them to the playoffs. Not every GM can say they've done that.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 12:15 AM) Ask and ye shall receive. This division sucks. Which is fine by this guy, so long as the least suckiest team is from Chicago.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 01:16 AM) Oh. Milton Bradley... duh. Kinda funny, through all the Josh Hamilton doesn't do drugs anymore and now he's a superstar and Carlos Quentin is a mangod, it's the crazy mofo who goes off on umpires and hurts himself that is leading the league in OPS. What's crazier is that, on June 4th, a 1.020 OPS leads the AL. In 2000, 1.020 wouldn't have been in the top 10 in OPS in the MLB. I really do believe 100% that we are about to move into a pitching favored era.

Who leads the AL in OPS as a 6-4-08? (hint: he plays for the Texas Rangers)

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 10:31 PM) They might need a DH... The real Sox do too
