QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 09:04 PM) His approach to plate and swing are about 10,000x better then Anderson's. However, Sweeney needs to really build up his wrist and forearm muscles. He needs to get that bat around much quicker. You seem to dislike players that pull the ball (which makes your Ryan Sweeney obsession that much more clear), and you hate Anderson's swing mechanics. Yet... QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 10:48 PM) I saw the homer he hit today on the news....it didn't seem like he had that horrible hitch in his swing. In case you didn't see it, it was a 400 foot homer to right center on a high fastball. No hitch in his swing, which means the bats getting through the zone quicker and he's swinging a lot better and general. And it's really hard to pull a homer to right center when you're batting right handed. BTW, that's friggin serious power if he hit a 400 blast to right center. I want Anderson in CF in the opener.

wouldn't it be J4L?

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 07:56 PM) Anderson is another one of my guys. Uribe, Contreras, Crede, I take everyone's trash, except Gavin Floyd. I take Gavin, and I take him with pride

QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 06:14 PM) qwerty reported that people drive better high then sober. And no, I'd prefer the cook not be high. It's funny that around here it isn't enough to believe pot is about as bad as alcohol, you must believe it is a miracle drug and has no negatives. It improves driving, makes life worth living for cancer patients, solves all the world's problems and argue with anyone who doesn't agree. For the record, I would not want someone smoking pot when performing surgery or driving my kids or flying my plane; there's also a difference between smoking when you are working and smoking casually. Just like there's a difference between drinking when working and drinking casually. As for marijuana's medical properties -- I don't think they've been tapped yet, and there's obviously qualities there. But with those qualities come other side effects, such as the lack of sobriety and an empty pantry.

QUOTE(WinningUgly85 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 05:37 PM) would i be jumping the gun in saying that Anderson is the new Mickey Mantle. He has the "get drunk as often as you can" part down pretty good.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 05:32 PM) And you would be fine if your airline pilot or kid's school bus driver said the same thing? Who has suggested anything close to that? And a rebuttal...would you be fine with a cook at a restaurant - let's just say some bar and grill type place - being high as a kite, cooking your food?
-
I'd believe that some people do drive better high than sober. I'd also believe that some people drive better drunk than sober. I know when I smoke, I'm a worse driver than when sober. But I get from place to place safely, I obey all traffic rules, and everything's kosher other than the fact that I was high.

So Anderson is slowly starting to realize he's a stud. He better f***ing make this team

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 03:15 PM) It wasn't his fault he was placed out of position. Mack was a great addition to the ballclub. Because of the lack of depth in certain areas, he was forced to play a position he should have never been in. You can't fault him for that. I don't; I blame KW for that. I'd also blame Ozzie, but when something like that forces his hand, it's really hard to blame him, just like how it is hard to blame him for Erstad in CF last year and even to some extent Podsednik too. I do hope to see Mack back on the Sox at some point in the future, during a time when he can be utilized properly.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 02:59 PM) And while the whole platoon situation didn't work out well for Brian, I also think it gave people a bad view of Rob. He knew he stunk in CF, but he was still valuable as a super-sub. I didn't want to see him traded - a lefty bat who can play the corners and the infield who is a Sox fan to boot. Mackowiak was always very underrated around these parts. About an .800 OPS guy against RHP...he should have been the starter in LF the past 2 years with someone else taking over against lefties.

QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 03:00 PM) Maybe JB making the team? Making the team or perhaps clearing a 40 man spot for him. And I say we officially ban the nickname JB lol, because it has been used by like 20 other Sox players in the past. Let's just call him Boozie

Soriano's rookie line - .268/.304/.432 - 29 walks, 18 homers, 55 XBHs, and 125 K's That looks like a very easily repeatable line, because it's below average. If he can hit 21 more homers the next season, that'd be fantastic. BTW, in Soriano's second year, he walked fewer times - 23 - than he did his first season.

QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) With Carlos Vasquez gone that clears a spot on the 40 That's the most interesting point of all the moves today

I do hope that Brian Anderson makes the Sox take him up north and become the CFer this season. I love Quentin, but I could handle him in AAA/off the bench this year and next, so long as he's getting quite a few PAs between DH, LF, and RF. If Anderson does finally put it up this year and become a CFer, that instantly takes the OF defense from slow and among the worst in the league to one of the best units. Swish-Anderson-Dye looks like average to above average range in the corners with outstanding range in center, with strong arms on all of them, and then Quentin is on the bench and he's a good defensive corner too. I'd love it. I don't necessarily hope Owens stays injured, but it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for the future of this franchise if he did and Anderson become a legitimate CFer.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 12:27 PM) Unless you are going to argue it is good for you, the a,lcohol comparison is worthless. But I'm glad you found the time to pick up that medical degree while in law school You can't argue for legality because some is less bad than something else? I mean, if everything had to be good for you, cigarettes, cigars, TVs, and alcohol would be thrown right out the window and banned instantly, wouldn't they?

QUOTE(kjshoe04 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 11:19 AM) I thought it said Matt Anderson RIP. I do remember him with the tigers. wasnt he a high draft pick? Kinda the first overall pick in 1997 That means it's the second straight year the Sox have signed a former #1 overall pick

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 12:00 PM) Bruce Levine indicated today the Sox are looking to trade Brian Anderson, and the Cubs are actually interested. I figured as much San Diego still seems to be a good place. If the Cubs really want him badly enough, who do you ask for?

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 08:49 PM) Actually they put his MLB stats and preparation ahead of meaningless ST stats. His .225 ba sub .300 OBP was most of what did him in. Yet can't consider player development? He had a .694 OPS in the second half of '06; that's terrible, but it was better than what Erstad had put up in previous 768 PAs. -
lolz is Tomo Ohka Japanese for grinder

QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 12:10 AM) Ramirez has speed, versatility, and has shown better than expected hitting ability including gap to gap power. Before anyones dismisses his hitting as " being only ST " just look at what the anointed one, Josh Fields, is doing this spring. He's still a K machine even against inferior spring pitching. Yet most seem ready to gift wrap the starting 3rd base job to him. Ramirez will be getting a crash course at 2nd base for the rest of the spring in the hopes that he learns the position quickly and shows he can play it as good as he plays shortstop. Uribe is only the leading candidate right now because of his glove, power and experience and Richars visa and back problems . If Ramirez gets sent down and rakes minor league pitching and quickly becomes adept at 2nd he won't be down there long. 2 things 1. The 3B position seems to be 50/50 between Crede and Fields, and that all depends on whether Crede can be traded or not. If the Sox can't trade, he's starting. 2. Fields hit 23 homers last year in the majors in 4 months. Ramirez has never set foot onto a baseball field, and is, according to almost all accounts, extremely raw as a hitter. I don't really no any other way to put it.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 06:14 PM) So Alexander out in Seattle? Didnt see that coming. When you get hurt two years in a row, average 3.5 yards a carry, and get less yards combined in those same 2 years than you did the year before you signed your megacontract, the writing is on the wall. When they bring in two other backs on top of it, it brings it all together. -
I read this thread and can't help but think of LEAVE JOE CREDE ALONE!

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 05:49 PM) What exactly did Ozzie do to throw him under the bus? Brian had a starting spot basically handed to him on a team favored to go to the World Series and he responded by having a bad season, came unprepared, and then showed up with a bad attitude. That sounds like Brian threw himself under the bus. Erstad 2007 ST - .300/.329/.388/.717 Anderson 2007 ST - .308/.393/.462/.855 and then, upon calling him up, he never played him (19 plate appearances in the entire month of April) That to me is throwing him under the bus. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 05:41 PM) Maybe, or maybe not. He's a first round pick, golden boy of the org, heir apparent in CF, 5 tool player, and has options left. Why trade him for something worth less? His value has been higher before and is worth more to the org if he fulfills his promise. He was the golden boy of the organization in 2006. That was 2 years ago. Last year, Ozzie essentially threw him under the bus, and they haven't been happy with him since. If he's changed and Ozzie and KW both feel it, perhaps he may make the team or stay in the organization. Perhaps not though too, what with them bringing in both Swisher and Quentin, and their love affair with Jerry Owens. Only time will really tell. -

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 05:17 PM) Anderson has also drawn 2 walks today. So far in ST, he's got a .368 avg, .467 OBP and .658 SLG for a 1.009 OPS, in 38 AB's. Oh and by the way, he has more total plate appearances (46) than anyone else on any team in ST. That tells me they are showcasing him rather than giving him an opportunity to prove himself so he can make the team.
