  1. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Mar 1, 2008 -> 07:28 AM) Cliff Politte went from a flame throwing pitcher who could reach the high 90's(2004) to someone who could barely reach 90(2006) in a 2 year span. to Politte's credit (...? no idea what to call it), it is hard to throw 98 with a shoulder that's torn to hell
  2. QUOTE(almagest @ Mar 3, 2008 -> 12:33 AM) Pretty sure the Sox would've considered it already as well. They know what Fields is capable of far better than we do. agreed
  3. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 2, 2008 -> 11:56 PM) More than SS? There have been a decent amount of larger/taller MIs who did just fine. Well, you keep bringing up Jeff Kent, but Kent is listed as 30 pounds lighter than Josh Fields at the same height while also being 15 years older. I just honestly don't think Fields is nimble enough, nor does he have a good enough glove to make a transition to 2B.
  4. You have to be nimble and light footed to play 2B. If not, you are going to be mediocre or worse defensively. To add on to that, Fields isn't that good defensively to begin with, so why would you mess with him when he's finally getting confident at a position? I just really await the day Crede is traded, because then I can stop seeing all this "trade Josh Fields" crap.
  5. QUOTE(3E8 @ Mar 2, 2008 -> 11:26 PM) I'm not saying give up on Richar or don't explore the option of Alexei at 2B, but Ellis is the best defensive 2B in baseball and has a career 100 OPS+. If he were to have another good year offensively he'd have a legitimate shot at type-A status, which could net us two draft picks. So I could see it being a win-now but also think about the future move depending on what the A's want for the guy. If anyone were to take that into consideration, it would be Beane. I'd imagine his asking price is actually pretty high. I'd figure Shelby would have to be included, and that just doesn't seem like the type of move the Sox should make. Of course, if for whatever reason Beane doesn't think about that, then it'd be way worth it.
  6. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 1, 2008 -> 07:48 AM) Well aCE YOU GOT YOUR WISH I'M drunk right now, so there's your comuffins. You just said comuffins
  7. im a little drunk right now...is that good or bad
  8. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Mar 2, 2008 -> 02:48 PM) There is a difference between having power and having more power than Jerry Owens. There's also a difference between having no power and having a little power. That is the difference between Jerry Owens and Brian Anderson.
  9. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Mar 2, 2008 -> 01:58 PM) If we were to chart Anderson v. Owens, I suspect it would chart out like this: Owens is better in hitting, speed Anderson is better defensively Neither has power. There are not a lot of light hitting defensive outfielders in MLB. The last one that comes to mind is former White Sox Darren Lewis. Except that Brian Anderson does have power. In fact, his major league slugging percentage is much higher than Owens' slugging and it's almost higher than his minor league slugging percentage too. And he's a .220 career major league hitter. If he can hit about .250, he'd slug .400 and that's a pretty damn good 4th outfielder. It's not a stretch to see him hit .250. Add to it that he's better defensively and actually has the talent to still develop into a starter, and I too would prefer Anderson on the bench over Owens. But I'm not exactly the biggest fan of Owens either.
  10. QUOTE(Shadows @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 02:24 PM) Finheaven Linky just saw it elsewhere too s***, that sucks, the Bills were after him too. He's a pretty decent receiver
  11. QUOTE(Shadows @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 01:54 PM) Free Agency hasn't even been active for a day and Miami is already making a flurry of moves so far they have signed WR Earnest Wilford ILB Reggie Torbor TE Sean Ryan DT Randy Starks RG Justin Smiley They are also reportedly about to sign OLB Calvin Pace to a pretty nice contract They also traded for NT Jason Ferguson and are showing interest in Michael Turner and Billy Volek couple that in with the fact they own the first pick and 2 second rounders, and could possibly look to deal Jason Taylor things are shaping up already Where'd you see they signed Wilford?
  12. QUOTE(heirdog @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 01:53 PM) I think the Giants and Whitesox were talking a Crede for Lowry swap as a "your damaged goods for my damaged goods" but I am glad from a Whitesox perspective that no move was made. As Kalapse said, Lowry looks like he is right on the cusp of a long rehab period. Crede looks to be okay...and should have a little more value than Lowry. Not sure how Cain has ever come up in this discussion as it would take a lot more than Crede and Uribe (and Anderson for that matter) to land Cain. Would anyone give up Fields and Danks for Cain and a spect? Keeping Crede and Uribe for 1 year (potentially having Uribe at 3rd the following year). Then you have to worry about 3B next year. Don't trade Fields.
  13. Crede's value might be higher than Lowry's now that Crede's shown he's in baseball shape and playing decently and Lowry put on a s***show.
  14. QUOTE(BaseballNick @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 12:37 PM) We need more intelligent and insightful thoughts like this on SoxTalk. I agree
  15. QUOTE(The Beast @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 11:40 PM) Yeah, especially since the debate is over. You know, I'm going to ask for a video camera for my birthday, go around campus and put drunk video tapes on youtube or blue box. yeah dog
  16. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 01:18 AM) I'd agree in an economic sense, not many out of wedlock babies grow up around a ton of money. These stats don't surprise me though, the term "white collar crime" is rare, and for the most part, the poor go to jail, and as much as it's supposedly "racist" to say, a lot more blacks are poor and/or stuck in crappy inner city areas than whites. Meanwhile, Drew Peterson continues to run free.... Why is it racist to say that a lot more blacks are poor and/or stuck in crappy inner city areas? That is true. It's unfortunate, but it's true.
  17. QUOTE(knightni @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 10:57 PM) They weren't a playoff team last year with them. The Titans really aren't any better, other than the fact that they have an offensive line. Sure VY can scramble, but he still can't pass and he has no receivers. All you need is an OLine to be effective offensively; the 2006 and 2007 Bears provided the perfect examples for that. And Benson is given a free pass because he was really a very good back last year when the Bears' OLine played well; when it played terribly, he played terribly. It may be a coincidence, but I don't quite buy that.
  18. QUOTE(rcpweiner @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 11:34 AM) Maybe some of you will like this one better: How to Heckle the Cubs some of those ones are actually ok
  19. QUOTE(iamshack @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 02:31 PM) Well, from the time Crede came back from the hand injury he suffered in Oakland until the beginning of 07', Crede was an absolute stud with RISP. Rip on his OBP all you want, but if he's going to hit that way with RISP, I could care less how many walks he takes. And that's where is offensive value lies. If he can come back and produce like that again, he'll be a heck of a player. If not, he's a great defensive 3b with some pop. It wasn't just RISP; Crede tore the absolute cover off the ball when he returned from his injury. In September and the postseason, he put up a .333/.368/.676/1.044 line including almost 50% of his hits going for extra bases (17 XBHs (10 HR(!!!)) while he had 36 hits). And that's including a sweet 1 for 9 line in the ALDS while drawing only one walk. So basically, down the stretch and in the two 7 game series he was a stud.
  20. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 11:50 AM) I think our lack of focus cost us the playoffs in the last half of 2006 and could have been the difference in 2007. I hope we see the intensity we deserve to see from the White Sox, no matter how poorly talented you think they might be. If we see the 2007 model of Ozzie "I Give Up" Guillen managing at any point this year, I think we need to find a new manager sooner than later. Focus alone doesn't take a 72 win team to a 95 win team. Talent was the issue last year. It's been addressed much better his offseason.
  21. I don't mean to demean Crede at all...he played a huge part in 2005, and his homer off Riske, double off Escobar, homer off Escobar, and his homer off Oswalt were huge down the stretch, and he the man. But so was Rowand in CF, Uribe at short, and the offense absolutely clicked in the postseason. Podsednik and Konerko came up absolutely huge in the postseason too offensively, and lest we forget Geoff Blum. The team itself was the reason they won, but people want to give a ton of credit to Crede for it; quite frankly, if you take any one piece of that team out of the puzzle, they probably don't make the playoffs and thus don't make the World Series. It was the ultimate team effort. So, yeah, Crede was huge; so was everyone else.
  22. QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 12:50 PM) No doubt... and I'm sure this was decided before any visa problems. Honestly, Richar could hit .400+ this spring, I still don't see him pegged as the opening day stater. That job belongs to Senor Juan, unless he f's up so bad at 2nd...they have no choice. The visa problem may very well come into play on wheter or not Richar makes this team, which at this point, I'd say he's on the outside looking in. If Richar hits .400 in the spring and looks good doing it, he's the starter. He was the favorite to start to begin with, and they traded a pretty damn good prospect to get him, so they aren't just going to give up on him because of one mistake on his part. And they do have a choice. Uribe's not making so much that they have to play him. It's not a 4 year, $40 mill deal; it's a one year obligation of $4.5 mill which allows them to even DFA him if he were bad enough this year. To top it off, I'd imagine if any team says they are willing to give anything with a little bit of talent up for Uribe, he'd be gone in a second.
  23. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Feb 27, 2008 -> 10:27 PM) One of my friends spent 40k on a Lancer Evolution MR and flipped it on LSD, that was a fun day... ...Lake Shore DR, not the drug It's probably a good thing you cleared that up, because from the way it is worded, it sounds like he flipped it when he was tripping on acid
  24. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 12:50 PM) You live in Missouri. Never associate the word perfect with that state again. You are drunk already.
