CREDE CREDE CREDE
QUOTE(Haarold @ Feb 25, 2008 -> 02:05 PM) Your list is a joke. How many of those guys are wearing rings right now? Pitching and defense win baseball games. Period. That's the same argument that suggests Miguel Batista was a better pitcher than Javier Vazquez last year because he won more games.

College drinking
QUOTE(The Beast @ Feb 25, 2008 -> 02:13 PM) The "inner beast" does not want to do drugs, drink or have sex at this point. I'm glad you want to have fun but right now at this moment in my life, all I want to do involves things that are more mature than what some college students want. I want to have my serious relationship continue and I want to have it develop into something greater, as it has since she and I started dating. I want to have a smaller group of friends and flourish with them being so close. I would love nothing but having what I've had in the past few years, which is a happy, mature, loving, caring lifestyle. I don't feel that I fit in the age group I do because all of what I want to do involve more mature and developed ideas. Have fun doing as you please, wite, and the rest of you---and I will continue to do what I want in achieving high standards and having a quality life full of values, small groups of close friends, a relationship with my girlfriend and of course, watching White Sox baseball, because that is what I want to live by. The funny thing is that I have all the same ideals and values you apparently do - serious relationship, develop into something greater, small group of friends, happy, mature, loving, caring lifestyle, along with holding myself to high standards (meaning if I get anything below a 3 GPA I'm going to be pissed at myself) - yet I get drunk every weekend. I also find it worthwhile to develop relationships with people who I could care less if they are or aren't in my small group of friends; networking is good, and if people know your name, you will be much more likely to succeed than if they do not. It seems you are still equating getting drunk to people not caring about life or having a low self-esteem. Surely, some do, but there are also others who don't drink who also have a low self-esteem and don't care about themselves.

College drinking
Alcohol is truth serum. That's what makes it so good and bad all at the same time. What you do on alcohol is what your inner beast really wants to do. If you want to express yourself, you will; if you want to do drugs or have sex, you will; if you want to just be out of control, you will; if you want to hold a lengthy conversation about the differences and similarities between Muhammad, Moses, and Jesus Christ, and someone else does too, you will. I have been all over the spectrum as to what I've done when drunk, and I have had several intellectual conversations. I've talked about Catholicism and some of Einstein's theories and politics, and on the complete other side, I've been streaking, talked about why TMNT is the greatest show on earth (and why Leonardo is the best TMNT of them all, although that really needs no explanation), jumped in snow, and ridden down stairs on a cardboard box. All of it was fun, and I regret doing none of it, because when I really got to thinking about it, I really did want to do all of it. So I've done some stupid things. Why should I care? I'll never have the opportunity to act like a complete idiot ever again, so I may as well do it.

Your official Cub predictions for '08?
QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Feb 25, 2008 -> 10:05 AM) I also think the Indians are really overrated by the way. I think they are still very underrated, even considering they were a game away from going to the World Series last year.

CREDE CREDE CREDE
QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Feb 25, 2008 -> 10:28 AM) I too believe Crede should be kept and we need to look a year or two into the future about Fields either playing 1B/DH or in the OF. I wouldn't be so quick to trade Konerko, but all things are possible and Jim Thome might only have a year or two left. There isn't much in our farm system left and if we go the free agent route to replace players we are paying big bucks for someone elses players and not keeping our own talent. Mediocre 3Bman should not be kept long-term when there is a 3Bman with higher upside already in the wings.

I don't see pennant, not with the way Arizona and New York's pitching staffs look. They'd get rolled in a short series by those two teams.

Worst and best offseason signings/trades
QUOTE(rcpweiner @ Feb 22, 2008 -> 03:41 PM) Until someone overtakes Uribe as 2nd baseman, where it looks like he's going to be playing, then the Uribe signing AND Cabrera trade should be off everyone's "worst" list. uh, why? I'd much prefer Richar at 2B myself, and while I don't mind the Garland trade as much as some, Cabrera isn't exactly a stud

Worst and best offseason signings/trades
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Feb 21, 2008 -> 07:50 PM) Before today I would've said signing Uribe. But suddenly i'm actually looking forward to watching Uribe and Ocab work the infield. I don't think Richar will break with the team out of ST - he's not doing himself any favors showing up late, that's for sure. If Uribe can play solid D at 2B and hit 25 dingers, I think the Sox will be a force in the central. something tells me this move to 2B could be a wake-up call for this guy (at least i hope so). Juan Uribe has hit 25 homers in a season in the majors as many times as I have. He's also only had one above average season in the majors. Until he stops swinging at every piece of garbage thrown at him, he's going to be a terrible hitter.

Boras is a "Bad Person"
QUOTE(ChiSox35 @ Feb 22, 2008 -> 09:38 AM) Tell that to Arod and Kenny Rogers. Andruw Jones signed a 5/$75 extension with Atlanta too when Boras had something like 7/$115 on the table from Texas. It still doesn't matter; there are exceptions to everything. Uribe fired Boras upon arriving in Chicago too; it doesn't change the fact that most of Boras' clients remain with him and that most of his clients make a ton of money.

Dayn Perry's Top 10 GM's
QUOTE(RME JICO @ Feb 22, 2008 -> 08:30 AM) Probably because of their recent success. One fluke season gets a GM in the top 10? I love what they did, but that was fluky as hell. QUOTE(KevinM @ Feb 22, 2008 -> 11:57 AM) DePo built what Ned Colletti is trying to destroy. Dan Evans built some of that up too.

Dayn Perry's Top 10 GM's
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 22, 2008 -> 02:05 AM) Here's SI's Jon Heyman's top 10 list http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writ...tGMs/index.html 1. Theo 2. Beane 3. Double D from D town 4. Mark Shapiro 5. The Cashman 6. Gillick 7. Josh Byrnes 8. Omar Minaya 9. Dan O'Dowd 10. Kenny Williams 10. Kevin Towers I'd rate Towers a lot higher. Why in the blue hell is O'Dowd in there? For 2 winning seasons in 8 years?
