  1. There's a difference between keeping the same life style and not changing daily activities and being apprehensive with a horrible feeling in your gut and the worst "What if?" scenario you could ever imagine. I'm going to eat dinner in the same place tonight, go to sleep tonight, lock the door like I always do, wake up, go to class, come back, go to parties, go to events, etc, etc. It doesn't change the fact that there is a natural, instinctual worry that lingers just because of that what if.
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 04:14 PM) Something along the lines of a tornado warning. Loud, obnoxious, and widespread. That would be perfect
  3. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 03:54 PM) Now if we could grab his bro.... That would be amazing, but I think it might have to accompany an 85-90 loss season.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 01:56 PM) All I'm saying is that Thome hasn't delivered in the last inning of games since he's been here. I think that's why some people have considered him to not be clutch. If you saw what I said, you would know I said he's the least of our worries right now. He delivered in Cleveland, just not a run. As Kalapse eluded to, getting on base in a 1 run game is pretty big. It's not ridiculously huge, but it's big. As for the rest of your statement, you are pretty much spot on, and I didn't realize how close you really were. Last year, in the 9th inning, he had a .167/.405/.267/.672 split with 1 homer and 4 RBI in 42 PAs (that is 12 walks, so it's partly because he wasn't getting anything to hit too), and his splits in extras were even worse, .125/.300/.250/.550 with no RBI at all. I don't know when his homer was, but that's far fewer than he had in any other inning throughout the course of the game. However, he was absolutely money in the 8th, so if people are arguing that he's not clutch, they are absolutely wrong. Splits of .306/.443/.857/1.300 with 8 homers, 14 RBI, and 12 walks in 61 PAs...yeah, he's clutch, he just hasn't done really anything in the 9th.
  5. QUOTE(beautox @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) link Danks is gonna be so f***ing good
  6. just horrible, thoughts and prayers go out to everyone at the university
  7. QUOTE(beautox @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 02:00 PM) his plate discipline will go up regardless of if he wants it too or not. When he is moved up in the yankee's order, they're not going to pitch to him much like delmon young, resulting in more BB, just wait and see, add to the fact that his power is still developing, hes defiantly capable of 30+ hr. Perhaps the type of comparison holds true (though to Cabrera seems wrong to me, as they are entirely different players. Garciaparra seems a bit better though), but you're not going to get a Miguel Cabrera type player for him at this exact moment, just like you're not going to get Billy Wagner for Matt Thornton. They both still have the possibility to be just as good, but they are not there, and it's likely neither will get there. That doesn't mean they still can't be very good or even franchise players at the same time (and in the case of Thornton, franchise reliever, which just obviously means he's damn good at what he does)...just not nearly to the level those two are at.
  8. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 03:09 AM) You're a potty mouthed lil fella aint ya ? How could you start over Brian Anderson ? When were u added 2 the roster ? I was kind of intoxicated, so that makes the language a little more understandable, seeing as how it's a heated topic and all. Beyond that, the only case he used to defend why Erstad should be starting over Anderson is the fact that he is. Therefore, if I were added to the roster, and Ozzie put me in CF, I'd be starting over Anderson, and that'd be all the tangible evidence one would need to have me starting over Anderson, right? No, that's completely and entirely wrong, because that's blind favoritism and nothing more. Anderson may be sitting because he is in Ozzie's doghouse for whatever reason, but when Ozzie comes out and says it's an open competition in ST and that the better man will win the job, and then the better man doesn't win the job, it speaks volumes for his character. I never heard an explanation as to why Anderson wasn't given the starting job that he earned, but I guess it really doesn't matter because "Darin's starting and that's all that matters."
  9. did a Yankees fan seriously compare Robinson Cano to Miguel Cabrera? What the f*** is wrong with them, honestly? He's good, but they apparently don't understand the term plate discipline, because he doesn't walk at all. A Garland for Cano trade would be pretty close, though the Sox would probably have to throw in a top 10 prospect too due to how many years Cano has till he hits free agency opposed to Garland.
  10. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 10:08 PM) 6 IP (I think), and 4 R (3 ER)... that is a quality start, and he put his team in a good position to succeed. He wouldn't have made it out of the 2nd in the majors. No, it wasn't a good start.
  11. QUOTE(GreenSox @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 12:12 AM) Thome is the slow slugger type - never my cup of tea; but he may be hard to jettison. The White Sox made really one large change from 2005 to 2006 offensively, and that was the addition of Thome. The 2005 White Sox scored 741 runs, and the 2006 White Sox scored 868 runs. Simple arithmetic, that's 127 runs, which is damn near a run a game. I don't know how you can dislike what he brings to this offense, honestly I don't. I understand adding more speed and flexibility, but Thome's addition was ridiculously good. If this team sucks this year, it's pitching and nothing else that will have caused it, period. They'll start scoring runs at some point, and if not, I'm eating like 40 pounds of crow like everyone else on this site.
  12. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 15, 2007 -> 10:42 PM) Uribe is a decent hitter, at best. I'd rather take my chances with Sweeney, Fields, and Anderson as the three I build around. I would like an upgrade at SS. I'm really not sure you can build around those 3. Best case scenario, Fields may be a guy you can kind of build around, but none are franchise players, and neither Sweeney nor Anderson have very high ceilings. Do people just consider Konerko completely gone and done with? I mean, he does have 3 years left after this season, and he hasn't seen his numbers fall yet. He's not old, but is on the wrong side of 30, and will probably be great until either his hip goes out or the end of his contract.
  13. it was opposite day, they actually meant Thome and Contreras
  14. Jackie Robinson was a hell of a man, but does ESPN realize that there's a game going on in LA right now? They're showing it, but there is no commentary on the game really at all.
  15. you know, there's really nothing better than Gatorade the morning after you drink. I put down like 64 ounces of that in like 30 minutes, and every last drop of it was amazing.
  16. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 15, 2007 -> 08:50 AM) Powerball Lotto. f***ing right on
  17. QUOTE(greg775 @ Apr 15, 2007 -> 08:09 PM) AJ may be hitting horribly, but this Molina guy hasn't shown signs of being able to hit even .200 has he? Does the guy even have a hit yet? AJ's not capable yet this year either, so I'm not sure it matters either way.
  18. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 15, 2007 -> 07:34 PM) Exactly, so what of his history with the team makes you think he is head and shoulders better than Erstad? BA should be in AAA, and thats that. Frankly I think the 3-3 record on this road trip with this offense is stellar, but if we must nitpick, we must. He's got better power, he's a better defender and pure athlete, and he's faster. He won't make contact at the same rate, but contact only does so much if you're grounding to the 2Bman every time. He also hit well, but not amazingly, in AAA and was never given consistent playing time after having made the adjustment from AAA to MLB pitching. He's said he's got a much better attitude this year, that he'll work harder, and that he screwed up a lot last year. I have to agree that he's better served in AAA if he's going to get 7 ABs every 2 weeks, that's flat out ridiculous.
  19. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 15, 2007 -> 07:29 PM) What the f*** has Anderson done? Erstad looks better in the field, has an actual approach at the plate, and is able to do the small things. BA isnt up to snuff in any of those categories right now. 4 games and 7 at-bats in 2 weeks will do that to a guy. Why do you think Mackowiak and Cintron look like s*** right now? Anderson was never given a chance, and that's the problem.
  20. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 15, 2007 -> 07:21 PM) I don't really think a hitter can be intimidating in the sense that, oh, Bob Gibson was. "He'll hit a homerun!" isn't quite as intimidating as, oh, "He'll spill my brain all over the plate." I have a problem with any hitter being in the top ten. Juan Marichal and Delmon Young would disagree
  21. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 15, 2007 -> 07:01 PM) Why don't you think that Crede's year last year was a fluke? His power numbers have improved pretty consistently at every point in his career in the majors. You can't see it in his direct SLG%, but by looking at IsoSLG, it's easy to see that they were in fact improving. 2003 - 172 2004 - 179 2005 - 202 2006 - 223 And while he had a step back from 2003 to 2004 overall, his numbers from 2004-2006 show consistent and steady improvement. I think the Crede we all saw last year is the Crede of the future - depending upon the health of his back - with perhaps some slight improvement to an .850 OPS. He shortened his swing a bit, and he started going the other way with the ball instead of trying to pull everything and be a super power hitter. Plain and simply, I think he's just a good hitter now opposed to early in his career, and that last year wasn't fluke or protection based. That's not to say he can't step back, I just don't think it will be to a sub-100 AdjOPS at any point, unless his back is truly unhealthy, in which case it is not only possible but it becomes likely.
  22. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 15, 2007 -> 05:20 PM) Williams claimed Masset was a "tick" below Jenks in terms of velocity. As it stands right now, it doesn't seem like Williams was very far off.... haha
  23. it's still entirely within reason that Crede returns to his form of 2003-2005 over the course of the season. I don't think so, but, you never know.
  24. so does this guy work for Maxim or something?
  25. Koch did get back up to 95-97, he just had absolutely no command of it at all. I mean, the guy went to Florida and walked 20 guys in 25 innings. You wanna talk about no control at all, that's it. Jenks scares me because I don't remember him ever being this slow. I think it will improve, I just don't know if it'll get in the 97-100 range again, which is where he needs to be to remain a dominant closer.
