  1. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 09:28 PM) I personally am not a big fan of Young. I think his cieling as a player is something along the lines of Mike Cameron, and while Young does play good D, I don't think he will be as good as Cameron. Now, there is nothing wrong with that, but I don't think he is going to turn into this 40-40 guy many of you guys and some "scouts" are making him out to be. I've heard Mike Cameron as a mere comparison with Eric Davis as his ceiling.
  2. QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 08:37 PM) is Washington considered the worst team in baseball? they are being one hit by the DBacks going into the 9th People have suggested they may set records for losses this year.
  3. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 10:08 PM) Unfortunately, many people seem to have adopted this view that the Tigers' pitching staff is due for a substantial dropoff because everyone pitched above expectations; both statistically and concerning innings pitched. Ignoring the fact Bonderman and Verlander are both 24, Maroth actually appeared to have turned himself around prior to injury, and a little pitcher named Andrew Miller awaiting in the minor leagues. I do see the Tigers pitching having a substantial dropoff - just not Verlander or Bonderman. Robertson, Maroth, and Miner all pitched out of their friggin minds last year, and Kenny Rogers is 43 and out till July. Hell, how is that not a substantial dropoff in itself? Beyond that, I've said all offseason that I really think the offense is going to struggle a bit this year due to their lack of patience at the plate. Nobody on their roster - other than Sheffield or Guillen - really walk much at all anymore, and no one other than those two hit for a particularly high average (though they have a couple of guys who hit around .300 in Magglio, Polanco, IRod, and Casey). I just don't like that offense at all.

  5. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 11:40 PM) What happened with Sean Tracey? as far as I could tell, this was never answered. I don't know the extent of the details, but from what I could find from Google, it seems as though Tracey hit him with a pitch in AA, there was an exchanging of words, but nothing else during the inning. After the inning, Tracey went to apologize to him, and Dukes pushed him to the ground. I can kind of see why Tracey would be afraid of hitting someone
  6. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 11:39 AM) That deal is done if it is only one of Broadway or Gio and a lower pitching prospect. Baldelli, Erstad, and Dye this year, and Baldelli, Fields, and Anderson next year? I like it. Gio >> Broadway in terms of prospect rating and no, Tampa won't accept anything less. They're not looking to give him away here, and it's not XBox. They have the leverage, and that's likely about the type of package they are looking for. In other words, Baldelli will not be a member of the White Sox (unless KW has lost his friggin mind and overpaid like a sonofab****).
  7. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 01:35 PM) Remember who you're dealing with here. let me guess, Jay Buhner with a bad beard dye job
  8. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 01:35 PM) That is a great point. But as far as I can tell, they aren't exactly products of our minor leagues completely. They learned their own way in the Latin countries and of course we worked with them here, in our system, but neither of them is one of Our guys. Mid-average, loopy swing -- they had their own fabulous natural abilities. ...? The White Sox signed Ordonez and Lee when they were 17. They had talent, and the White Sox cultivated that talent into top players. I don't see how spending 8 years in the White Sox minor league system makes them non home grown talent.
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 01:24 PM) And what if the pitching is somewhere between '05 and '06 this year? What if they allow 4.29 R/G with a 4 team ERA? What then? Is that good enough to cover up any offensive deficiencies? Then the team is right around the 90-72 they were last year, in which case, the lack of a leadoff hitter may cost them because I don't see 90-72 winning the division.
  10. Packer is going to get away with it yet Ozzie has to take sensitivity classes. the world hates the White Sox I tell you

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 07:32 AM) Starting to think you should be spending more time posting so that you can get those "special perks" once you hit 20,000?
  12. is Matsuzaka's first name actually pronounced "Dice-K" or does everybody just call him that because they think they're cool?
  13. QUOTE(Craig Grebeck @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 12:33 PM) What of that had anything to do with my post? What manager on earth would continue to stick with Erstad/Pods in the lineup, albeit at the top-despite viable replacements? Ozzie What manager would alienate his younger players in order to serve veterans that don't deserve playing time? Ozzie and Erstad and Podsednik could put up OBP's of .310 throughout the course of the year and the offense would still score 800 runs. That argument sucks. Of course, it would be nice if the Sox had two guys in the 1-2 spot that would put up OBP's of around .350-.380, thus resulting in about 900-925 runs, but the offense will be good and inconsistent. The rise or fall of the White Sox depends upon pitching and pitching only. If they pitch, the will win. If they don't pitch, they will lose. I think the first 3 games of the season have illustrated that pretty well.
  14. QUOTE(Balance @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 10:35 PM) Thanks. I couldn't remember it. of course, that is no problem. Everyone loves a little Anchorman
  15. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 12:51 PM) I think you're forgetting Magglio Ordonez and Carlos Lee. and there's the answer(s) to Sir Pratt's question. It's not usually a regular thing to develop a .900+ OPS players. The Sox developed those two in the late 90s/2000, but they are good players nonetheless.
  16. Dunn would be a fantasy of mine, but he's pretty much the worst defensive LFer in the game. I think even Podsednik is better than him. Ichiro still remains the best all around option for this team at this time. And I would go 4/$60 for Ichiro, and I think that could very likely get him. He keeps himself in phenominal shape, and doesn't just steal bases because he's fast but because he's a flat out outstanding base stealer. Also, if necessary, I would go an extra $2-3 mill a year, because a table setter like Ichiro is one thing that would be fantastic for this lineup. However, I see the Sox big splurge being on ARod - assuming he opts out - and the Sox will go with another .330-.340 OBP leadoff man, which is just ridiculous.
  17. QUOTE(Balance @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 10:09 PM) I DON'T KNOW WHAT WE'RE YELLING ABOUT!!!! /Steve Carrell QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 11:22 AM) LOUD NOISES and use the character's name - Brick Tamland
  18. nono, what I'm saying is is that it's the same type of pitch, but neither Daisuke nor Pedro depend upon it like Shingo did. For Shingo, that was his bread and butter. Once his bread was buttered, he got sent back to Japan in a heartbeat. meh, making a mountain out of a molehill, I understand what you're saying.

this thread has made my question life in general...I think?
  20. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 09:53 PM) 2. The "gyroball" as a "slider that doesn't slide" is actually something Pedro Martinez throws. He doesn't call it that, but the "creator" said that Pedro throws it without really knowing it and it works as a sort-of slider sort-of screwball for him. Not sure if his is as good as Pedro's, but I'd say it's more than a gimmick pitch but less than a real pitch. So like it's the frisbee, except that he doesn't depend on it like Shingo did?
  21. I've never heard 97-98 correlated with Masset. I've heard he has "Jenks-like stuff" which just means his stuff is similar - not a mirror image - and that his fastball was more in the 94-96 range. If he's at 94 today, I'd say that's quite encouraging. I don't really know what radar figures to buy into yet, seeing as how MacDougal was clocked at like 89-90 yesterday, and 96 today? I'd guess he was around 92-94 if anything.
  22. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 10:00 PM) I don't know what it would cost the Sox to get him, or whether or not that cost would be worth it. But I sure would love to have Baldelli on the Sox roster in place of Podsednik. I'd prefer Timo Perez to Podsednik
  23. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 11:52 AM) You're exactly right about the offense. And yes, Cleveland beat our asses by playing like... the 2005 Chicago White Sox. really disagree with that last statement. The won by playing like the 2006 Chicago White Sox - good enough pitching and slugging the hell out of the ball.
  24. Baldelli costs Gio and Broadway (give or take) no, the last thing the Sox can really afford to trade right now is pitching if they're not getting pitching back in return.
