How would you all feel if we gave up Anderson + Crede instead for Chavez? Considering we would still have Sweeney left as OF prospect and with Rowand and Pods here to stay for a while with our grind it out team, wouldn't it be better to keep our stud pitchers with us? -

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 08:46 PM) well done. Not only are there few teams in need, they must also have the talent Oakland wants [most likely, a major league ready SP and position players]. If Beane does want to trade Chavez, the sox have to among those with the will and ability to get a deal done. -

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 07:22 PM) Excellent post. Chavez probably realizes that the Sox are his best bet to get out of Oakland since we have Cruddy. -

I agree Dodgers might be the only other serious option. But not sure with Perez hitting 0.422. They need starting pitching more than O this year, they are doing fine on O this year -

Honestly, who else would be interested in getting Chavez if Oakland did dangle him? Out of all of the contending teams this year as of now: AL: Not the Yanks with Pay Rod Not the Bo Sox with Mueller Not the Rangers with Blaylock Not the Angels with Dallas McPherson Not the Os with Mora hitting 0.297 Not the Twinkies with Cuddyer and with limited payroll NL: Not the Cards with Rolen Not the Braves with Chipper Jones Not the Marlins with Lowell Not the Giants with Alfonso hitting 0.328 (and the As would never trade him to Giants, it would hurt them big time with city popularity) Not the Cubs with Aramis Ramirez Not the Padres with Blum hitting 0.296 Not the LA Dodgers with Perez hitting 0.422 Not the Dbacks with Troy Glaus I just do not see anyone else seriously being interested in Chavez, hence we should use the leverage to our advantage. Hopefully, Kenny screws Beane who has to be desperate to trade him to us. -

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 06:31 PM) Fact remains their bullpen blows balls... If Borowski returns to being good, Remlinger comes back, Prior and Wood get healthy, and Williamson gets healthy, that is not true. Once their starters get healthy (if they do), it trickles down to the BP. Starters Wood Prior Zambrano Maddux Rusch BP Remlinger Borowski Dempster Scott Williamson -

I actually agree because when healthy, their pitching is as good as ours and their O is so much better. I actually think there is a chance we see an all Chicago WS this year. Call me crazy, but after the Bo Sox win last year, all bets are off now. -
If the Rangers trade for Clemens and Angels trade for Sweeney, we better get someone to win this division because there is a strong chance the wild card will come from the west

Possible Trade Between the Royals and Angels
sox-r-us replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in The Diamond Club
If they make this trade, Kenny better get a big bat in here soon too to counter. With the Angels pitching, BP and O (after this trade), they would be favorites to win it all (injuries notwithstanding) -

This all comes down to how confident is Kenny in Chavez's ability to converge back to his expected #s, as opposed to his current #s If we are giving up BMac, Kenny better be darn sure. And if Chavez does not work out and becomes a Albert Belle type contract on us, I better see Kenny fired. Because we all know if a big acquisition does not work out, JR will not spend anything for the next decade citing how that does not work. -
What really sucks is that Ozzie did not even bother to pinch hit Paulie in the later part of the game I mean, why was WIllie even taking a bat in his hand as the tying run instead of Paulie...yeah Willie walked but still....
-
After tonight's loss, on SC, ESPN showed the all time Sox vs Angels head to head stats. The Sox and Angels are tied at 315 wins each (1 tie) and are only one freaking run apart (if Frank had not walked in that run tonight, they would be tied there too), and their ERA and BA are very close to each other too. Pretty goofy stuff I say.

Just got his 5th hit of the game (5 for 5) and hit a 3 run bomb Man this guy is awesome. Currently, he is a triple crown winner candidate (only 4 players from the NL have ever won it). What would I give to have him on the Pale Hose? Why did the Marlins let him go? Stupid move by the Marlins. Instead of paying Delgado, they could have kept him instead.
-
If we had got Politte, Marte and Hermy in the 7th, 8th and 9th, we would have won this with 6 runs on the board Bad managing, no doubt there
-
Brently on ESPN just took more shots at Ozzie for his BP handling Specifically at not bringing in Hermy in game 1, which we almost lost thanks to that move, and now bringing him in for mop up hurting his 0.00 ERA MInd you, Brentley predicted Hermy would nto do well before he even pitched his first pitch (becoz it was not a save situation) Right he was.....f*** you Ozzie, you suck moron

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 10:45 PM) The guy from Baseball Prospectus today was talking about Castilla on ESPN news and basically said that he is hitting .245 the past month with one homer and that is just about the kind of Castilla to expect rather than the one you saw in April. Please, enough with the Vinny Castilla bulls***, no one wants him! Of course this guy must be the be-all-know-all of baseball :rolly Correct Mr-Frank-Thomas-Sucks? :headshake -

QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 10:51 PM) and RF and 2B and 3B. Ok, but Macowiak has hit 0.244, 0.270 and 0.246 the last 3 years with 16,6, and 17 HRs So his #s over the years are no better than Vinny's. Maybe he too is playing over his head? -

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) Remember, Chavez doesn't have any type of protection in his lineup. That's a big reason why his numbers are down. Neither does Castilla, so what is your point? -

QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 09:04 PM) I think Chavez and Castilla will both be too expensive in terms of the prospects required to acquire them. We're better served pursuing Polanco or Mackowiak, I think. Doesn't Mackowiak play LF???? -

QUOTE(supernuke @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 08:55 PM) How do you know that May is a slump. Maybe he was playing over his head in April and the May numbers are the real Vinny Castila at 37. How about we wait until the trade deadline? Would that give you enough stats to make an informed decision with? Considering he plays on a team awful on O, wouldn't he be better hitting here if Frank comes back strong? I know the same argument applies for Chavez (playing on a team awful on O), and I agree with that. My problem with Chavez is simply that his performance/$ is way too low a ratio, especially for a team like ours which spends very carefully. -

QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 08:47 PM) sox-r-us, what kind of deal do you think we'd need to make to get Castilla here? Crede + 1 decent prospect (none of the names thrown around for Chavez mind you) The Nats would love to have someone like Crede considering he is still young + a prospect for a 37 year old player who will probably not play after next year -

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 08:38 PM) the stats this year look like this April .347 BA .613 SLG .388 OBP MAy .245 BA .327 SLG .339 OBP So how about we go off of his last month? I mean, if the Sox should take him because he had such a good April, then why should they ignore his massive falloff in May? Maybe because the chances are he will be better than he was in May. If after a bad slump, his #s are so much better than Chavez and Cruddy, that just proves my point. He is worth looking into at the deadline for a stop gap solution.
